Extended SDI time off - Will payment be processed? Need advice!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I just extended my time off on disability, but I'm not sure if the payment will be processed. Has anyone dealt with this before? I'm worried about how long it might take or if there's anything else I need to do. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Ugh, I've been there. It's such a headache dealing with disability payments. Have you tried calling them? That's usually the best way to get a straight answer.

ā¢Pro tip: call right when they open. You might have better luck getting someone on the line.

ā¢Good idea! I've had luck calling during lunch hours too. Sometimes the wait times are shorter.

When did you submit the extension request? In my experience, it can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks for them to process it. Make sure you keep an eye on your online account for any updates or messages.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

ā¢Yeah, it does! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

Here's what you need to know about extending disability and ensuring payment processing: ⢠First, make sure you've submitted all required documentation for the extension. This usually includes a doctor's note or updated medical certification. ⢠Check your online account regularly for any requests for additional information. ⢠Payments typically continue automatically if your extension is approved, but there might be a gap while they process the extension. ⢠If you don't see any updates after 2 weeks, try to contact them. Use the online messaging system if phone lines are busy. ⢠Keep a record of all your communications and submissions. ⢠If you're really stuck, consider reaching out to your local state representative's office. They can sometimes help expedite disability issues. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

ā¢Great advice! I'd add that taking screenshots of your submissions can be really helpful if there's ever a dispute.

Have you checked if theres any local advocacy groups that can help? Sometimes they have insider knowledge on how to navigate the system faster.

Ive been on disability for 2 years now and heres my advice: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every online submission. It's saved my butt more than once when dealing with payment issues.

ā¢This is solid advice. I learned the hard way that you cant trust the system to keep accurate records.

Anyone else notice that the disability system seems to be getting worse lately? I swear it used to be easier to get answers...

I went through this exact situation last month! Here's what happened with me: I submitted my extension request online and it took about 10 days to get approved. The key thing is to make sure your doctor submitted the updated medical certification directly to EDD - that's usually what holds things up. My payments continued automatically once the extension was processed, but there was about a 1-week gap between my original end date and when the new payments kicked in. Keep checking your account daily and don't panic if you see a brief interruption - that's normal during the transition. If it's been more than 2 weeks with no update, definitely try the calling strategies others mentioned or use the online contact form. Hang in there!

ā¢This is exactly what I needed to hear! Thanks for sharing your experience. I was starting to worry about that gap in payments, but knowing it's normal makes me feel so much better. Did you have to do anything special to make sure your doctor submitted the medical certification directly, or did they handle that automatically?

I'm going through the same thing right now and it's so stressful! I submitted my extension about a week ago and haven't heard anything back yet. Reading through these comments is really helpful though - especially knowing that a 1-2 week gap in payments might be normal. I had no idea about the doctor needing to submit the medical certification directly to EDD, so I'm definitely going to double-check on that. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, it really helps to know we're not alone in dealing with this bureaucratic nightmare! š¤ Hoping both our extensions get processed soon @Jamal Carter!

ā¢@Caden Turner Hang in there! I m'new to this community but going through something similar. It s'reassuring to see so many people willing to help each other out with these confusing processes. Definitely sounds like following up on that doctor s'medical certification is key - I had no idea that was a separate step either. Fingers crossed for quick approvals for everyone! š¤
