How to update phone number with EDD? Got a new number, need help!
Hey everyone, I just got a new phone number and I'm trying to update it for my EDD claim. Does anyone know if there's a way to change the number they have on file? I'm worried about missing important calls or updates.

Unfortunately, EDD doesn't make it easy to update your phone number. You'll probably need to call them directly to make the change. Good luck getting through though, their phone lines are always jammed!

•Ugh, tell me about it. I spent 3 hours on hold last week just to get disconnected. 🤬

•Pro tip: try calling right when they open. I got through in like 20 minutes that way!

•Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a shot next time. Anything to avoid those endless hold times.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•20 bucks? Idk man, seems kinda steep just to make a phone call.

•I get the skepticism, but it honestly saved me so much time and frustration. Worth every penny imho.

•How long did you have to wait after using the service?

•It took about an hour, but I didn't have to actively wait on hold. They called me when an agent was ready.

Have you tried updating your info through the online portal? Sometimes they let you make changes there without calling in.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the EDD customer service number (1-800-300-5616) 2. Choose the option for "all other questions" 3. When you get a rep, explain that you need to update your phone number 4. They'll verify your identity, so have your SSN and claim info ready 5. Once verified, they can update your number in the system Be prepared to wait on hold for a while. Best times to call are usually early morning or late afternoon. Good luck!

Quick question - did you port your old number to the new phone or is it a completely new number? If you ported it, you might not need to update EDD at all.

•It's a totally new number, so I definitely need to update it. Good thinking tho!

You can also try updating your contact info through the UI Online portal at edd.ca.gov. Log into your account and look for "Contact Information" or "Profile Settings." Sometimes phone number updates work through there without having to call. Worth trying before spending hours on hold! If that doesn't work, then definitely follow Fatima's advice about calling early morning.

•This is great advice! I didn't know about the online portal option. Definitely worth trying the website first before dealing with those crazy phone wait times. Thanks for the tip @Sarah Ali!

Just wanted to share my experience - I was able to update my phone number through the EDD website! Log into your UI Online account at edd.ca.gov, go to "Profile" and then "Contact Information." I was worried it wouldn't work based on what others said, but it actually let me change it right away. Definitely try this first before calling - could save you hours of waiting on hold! If the online method doesn't work for some reason, then you'll know you need to call, but at least you tried the easy way first.

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! I was dreading having to call and sit on hold forever. Going to try the online portal right now - fingers crossed it works for me too! Thanks for sharing your success story @Ava Williams 🙏

Thanks for posting this question! I was actually in the same situation a few weeks ago. I tried the online portal first (UI Online at edd.ca.gov) like some others mentioned, but unfortunately it didn't work for me - the phone number field was grayed out and wouldn't let me edit it. So I ended up having to call the 1-800-300-5616 number. I called right at 8am when they opened and got through in about 45 minutes, which wasn't too bad! The rep was super helpful and updated my number in like 2 minutes once I got through. Just make sure you have your SSN, claim number, and some form of ID ready. Hope this helps and good luck! 📞

•Thanks for sharing your experience @Emily Sanjay! It's really helpful to know that the online portal doesn't work for everyone. I'm glad you were able to get through by calling early - 45 minutes isn't too bad compared to some of the horror stories I've heard! I'll definitely try the online method first, but if that doesn't work I'll follow your advice and call right at 8am. Having all the documents ready beforehand is a great tip too. Really appreciate you taking the time to share what worked for you! 🙏

I had this exact same issue last month! Here's what worked for me: I first tried the online portal at edd.ca.gov like others suggested - logged into UI Online and went to Profile > Contact Information. Unfortunately the phone number field was locked/grayed out for me too. So I ended up calling the customer service line (1-800-300-5616) around 8:15am on a Tuesday. The wait wasn't as bad as I expected - maybe 30-40 minutes. The rep was actually pretty helpful once I got through. Just have your SSN, claim number, and ID ready to verify your identity. The actual update took less than 5 minutes once they pulled up my account. Pro tip: if the online portal doesn't work for you, definitely call early in the morning for shorter wait times. Good luck Carmen! 🤞

•This is really helpful @Collins Angel! I appreciate you sharing the step-by-step process. It's good to know that even when the online portal doesn't work, calling early in the morning can still get you through in a reasonable time. 30-40 minutes is definitely manageable compared to some of the 3+ hour horror stories people have shared. I'm going to try the online method first thing tomorrow, and if that doesn't work I'll set an alarm for 8am and call right when they open. Thanks for the encouragement and the realistic timeline! 🙏

I just went through this same process last week! Here's what I learned: definitely try the online portal first at edd.ca.gov - log into UI Online and check under Profile > Contact Information. For some people it works instantly, but for others (like me) the phone number field is locked. If the online method doesn't work, calling is your only option. I called at exactly 8:00am on a Wednesday and waited about 50 minutes, which honestly wasn't as terrible as I was expecting based on all the horror stories! The rep was able to update my number in under 3 minutes once I verified my identity with SSN and claim info. One thing to note - make sure you get a confirmation number or some kind of verification that the change went through. The rep gave me a reference number which made me feel more confident it actually got updated. Hope this helps and fingers crossed the online portal works for you! 🤞
