EDD account locked after phone number change - urgent help needed

So frustrated right now! I just changed my cell phone carrier last week (got a way better deal with T-Mobile) but now I can't log into my EDD account at all. When I try to sign in, it says they need to verify my identity by sending a code to my phone number on file - which is my OLD number that I don't have access to anymore! I've tried the "forgot password" option but it still wants to text my old number. I really need to certify for benefits this Sunday and I'm panicking. Has anyone dealt with this before? What's the quickest way to update my phone number when I can't even get into the system? Help!!

I had this exact problem back in January! So annoying that they make it so difficult. You'll need to call EDD directly to get them to manually update your phone number in their system. I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual person at EDD without waiting for hours. They have this service that calls EDD for you and then connects you when they get through. Saved me so much frustration! Here's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - totally worth it since I got my issue fixed in like an hour instead of spending days trying to get through.

The official way to handle this is to call the EDD Customer Account Services at 1-800-300-5616. You'll need to verify your identity through other means, so have your Social Security number, claim number, and other identifying information ready. They can manually update your contact information in their system. I recommend calling right when they open at 8am for shortest wait times. Don't wait until Sunday when you need to certify - do this ASAP since account updates can take 24-48 hours to process in their system.

Thank you! I've been trying that number all morning but just get the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and then it hangs up. I'll try again right at 8am tomorrow. Do you know if they're open on Saturdays? My certification is due Sunday and I'm getting really worried.

The self-service line won't help with phone number changes - that specifically requires speaking with a representative for security verification purposes. They intentionally limit how you can update contact information to prevent fraud.

THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!! I swear EDD makes everything 10x harder than it needs to be!!! I had to call them 37 TIMES before I got through to a human being. Make sure you press 1, then 6, then 7, then 1 again when you call - that sequence got me to someone who could actually help instead of just transferring me around in circles. Good luck!!!

37 times?! That's insane... I've tried about 15 times already with no luck. I'll try that key sequence though, thanks for the tip!

I had a similar issue a few months ago. After trying to call with no success, I went to my local EDD office in person. Brought my ID, Social Security card, and a copy of my claim information. The representative there was able to update my phone number right away, and I could log in again by the next day. Not sure where you're located, but if calling doesn't work, this might be your best option, especially with your certification deadline approaching. Just be prepared for a potentially long wait - I'd recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before they open.

This is a great suggestion! In-person assistance at an America's Job Center of California (AJCC) location can often resolve these issues faster than phone calls. You can find your nearest location here: https://www.edd.ca.gov/office_locator/

Not yet! Still trying. Will update here if I get it resolved. Seems like going in person might be the fastest option based on what others are saying.

For everyone having this issue, here's the process EDD follows for security reasons: 1. Phone number changes MUST be verified by a representative (this is to prevent fraud) 2. You will need to provide multiple forms of identity verification 3. The representative needs to manually override the system security block 4. Once updated, you should receive an email confirmation (if you have email on file) 5. System updates generally process overnight, so you should be able to log in the next day If you need to certify urgently and can't access your account, ask the representative to note this in your file. In some cases, they can process your certification over the phone or provide a one-time override code to access your account. Also, while you're talking to them, make sure to verify ALL your contact information is current - not just your phone number but also mailing address and email.

Update: I finally got through! Used the Claimyr service that someone mentioned above and got connected to a rep in about 20 minutes. They were able to update my phone number after verifying my identity. Said I should be able to log in tomorrow morning to certify. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help!
