EDD account locked - can't access verification code email anymore
Stuck in a serious bind! I recently got a new job after being on unemployment for 4 months, but now I need to download my payment history for my apartment application. Problem is, I can't log into my EDD account because it's sending a verification code to my old work email which was deactivated when I got laid off! I've tried calling EDD at least 20 times this week but keep getting the 'we're experiencing high call volumes' message and then it hangs up. Has anyone dealt with this email verification nightmare before? Is there a way to update my contact info WITHOUT being able to log in first? This is so frustrating - my lease application is due in 5 days and my potential landlord needs proof of my income history!

•Right?? It feels like I'm being punished for getting a new job! Did you eventually fix yours or did you have to create a new account?

You need to submit a Contact EDD request through ASK EDD on their website. Look for 'UI Online Account' option and then 'Update Contact Information' as your reason. You don't need to log in to access this form. Include your SSN, DOB and explain your situation. Takes 5-7 days to process though, so might not help with your apartment deadline.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I'll try that right now. Do you know if there's any way to expedite the process given my time crunch with the apartment application?

•Unfortunately there's no expedite option through the online form. Your best bet would still be trying to reach someone by phone, but I know how difficult that can be.

I've been through this EXACT SAME MESS with EDD. The only way I got it resolved was using Claimyr to get through to an actual EDD representative. I wasted 3 days calling nonstop before I found it. You pay a fee but they get you through to an EDD agent usually within an hour. Saved my sanity! Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

•It worked for me! I was super hesitant too but I was desperate after not being able to get through for days. The rep I spoke with was able to update my email right away.

•At this point I'd try anything! Just checked out the website and it seems legit. Might give it a shot tomorrow if I can't get through on my own. Thanks for sharing!

FWIW, you might not need to log into your account at all. If you just need proof of income for your apartment application, you can request an official Income Verification letter through the IVR phone system (1-866-333-4606). Press 1 for English, then enter your SSN and PIN, then choose Option 1, and then Option 3 to request a form by mail. No need to speak to a live person for this.

•That's incredibly helpful! I had no idea I could do that through the automated system. My only concern is timing - will it arrive quickly enough for my application deadline?

•It usually takes 7-10 business days to arrive by mail, so it might be cutting it close for your 5-day deadline. If you need it faster, you're probably better off trying to get your account access fixed.

I had this problem last year and I finally got through to EDD after calling exactly at 8:01 AM when they first open. Seriously - not 8:00 (too many people) and not 8:05 (too late). The SECOND hand hit 8:01, I called, and got through after only a 20 minute wait. The rep reset my email address immediately and I could log in within minutes after that. Worth a try!

•Brilliant timing hack! I'll definitely try the 8:01 AM approach tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed it works!

When I couldn't access my EDD email, I ended up having to go to an in-person EDD office with my ID. They fixed it on the spot. Might be worth checking if there's an office near you that accepts walk-ins. Saved me days of frustration trying to call.

•Most EDD offices require appointments now, just FYI. They stopped taking walk-ins after COVID.

•Oh really? That's a bummer. I did this back in August 2022 so things must have changed.

•I'll look into the appointment option, but I'm worried about timing. Has anyone successfully made an appointment recently? What was the wait time like?

this whole system is a joke. i hate how they make EVERYTHING so complicated. like why can't they just have a simple 'reset my email' option like every other website on earth???? 🙄

•I know, right? It's like they designed the system to be as frustrating as possible!

UPDATE: I tried the Claimyr service that was mentioned earlier, and I gotta say, it actually worked. Got connected to an EDD rep in about 45 minutes, and they updated my email on the spot. I was able to log in immediately after. Just wanted to follow up in case anyone else is dealing with this issue!

Pro tip for anyone else dealing with this - I had a similar situation last month and found out you can also try reaching out to your state assemblyperson's office! They often have dedicated EDD liaisons who can help expedite these kinds of account issues. I called my assemblyperson's constituent services and they were able to get my email updated within 2 business days. It's worth a shot if the other methods don't work out!
