ID.me keeps sending verification to old phone number - can't access EDD account for pregnancy leave
Incredibly stressed right now! I'm 32 weeks pregnant and trying to start my pregnancy disability claim, but I'm locked out of my EDD account. I changed my cell phone number back in January (provider had better coverage in my area), and now ID.me keeps trying to text verification codes to my old number. There's literally NO option to change the phone number, and I've forgotten my password too. I'm panicking because my doctor wants me to start leave in 3 weeks due to pregnancy complications. Should I just create a new account? I'm worried that'll mess things up since my SSN is already in the system. Has anyone dealt with this ID.me phone number nightmare before? Any suggestions before I completely lose it?? My OB already submitted his portion of the paperwork and I need to complete my part ASAP.

DON'T create a new account!!! That will 100% cause problems with your claim and you'll end up with a HUGE headache trying to sort it out. I did that last yr when i couldn't get into my account and it took MONTHS to fix the duplicate accounts. The EDD system flagged it as potential fraud and froze EVERYTHING.

•Omg that sounds awful! Definitely won't create a new account then. So what should I do? My appointment with my doctor is next week and he keeps asking if I've submitted my claim yet. I'm getting so stressed about this.

You need to go through ID.me's account recovery process specifically for the phone number issue. This happens quite often. Here's what you should do: 1. Go to ID.me's help center (not through EDD) 2. Look for "account recovery" or "change phone number" 3. You'll need to upload documentation proving your identity 4. They'll verify you and help update the number The process takes 3-5 business days typically, but it's the proper way to fix this without creating duplicate accounts in the EDD system. Don't worry about your doctor's portion - that stays in the system and will connect to your claim once you can access your account.

•Thank you so much! I didn't realize I could go directly to ID.me to fix this. I'll try this right away. Fingers crossed it doesn't take the full 5 days since my leave starts so soon.

same thing happened to my sister when she was trying to do her maternity leave last year... she spent like 6 hours trying to get ahold of someone at EDD. finally got thru and they still couldnt fix it right away. not sure what ended up happening but she was super stressed about it

•6 HOURS on hold?! That's insane! I'm already having trouble sleeping with this pregnancy and don't think I have the energy to stay on the phone that long. There has to be a better way!

I had this EXACT problem when filing for PFL baby bonding. Very frustrating! After trying ID.me recovery without success (they were backlogged), I used a service called Claimyr to get through to an EDD representative who fixed it in minutes. It costs money but saved me days of stress when I was 36 weeks pregnant. They connect you directly to an EDD agent who can override the ID.me issue and manually verify you. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 Website is claimyr.com The EDD rep I reached helped reset everything and walked me through filing my pregnancy disability claim on the phone. Completely worth it when you're dealing with pregnancy stress and timeframes.

•is that service legit? sounds kinda sketchy paying money to talk to edd

•It's completely legitimate. They don't file your claim for you or anything suspicious - they just connect you to an actual EDD representative (the same ones you'd reach if you called directly and waited for hours). The EDD rep helped me with everything official, Claimyr just made the connection.

The ID.me recovery process is NIGHTMARISHLY slow right now!!! I submitted my documents 3 weeks ago and still nothing. I'm not pregnant but needed access for regular UI and gave up waiting. The system is completely BROKEN and they don't care that people are desperate. Not to discourage you but just setting realistic expectations.

•3 WEEKS?? I definitely don't have that kind of time. My doctor's putting me on bed rest in less than a month. This is ridiculous!

•I tried calling but kept getting disconnected after waiting 45+ minutes. I'll keep trying though - maybe I'll get lucky and actually reach someone.

Update: After trying for 2 days with ID.me support with no luck, I used the Claimyr service that someone suggested. Got connected to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. The rep verified my identity another way and helped me file my pregnancy disability claim over the phone! So relieved. Now I can focus on my health instead of this technical nightmare. Thanks everyone for your help!

Glad you got it resolved! For anyone else facing this issue in the future - this is common with ID.me and EDD. The most important thing is NEVER create duplicate accounts as it triggers fraud alerts. Either go through ID.me recovery directly (slower but free) or get help from an EDD representative who can verify you through alternate means (faster but harder to reach). Also worth noting: pregnancy disability (PDL) is different from Paid Family Leave (PFL). You'll file PDL first for the time before birth and recovery, then transition to PFL for baby bonding after. Make sure to understand the transition process so you don't have a gap in benefits.

•Thanks for the clarification! Yes, my doctor explained I'll be on pregnancy disability until 6 weeks after birth (8 weeks for c-section), then I'll need to file for baby bonding PFL. I'm definitely going to keep all my account info safe now so I don't have to go through this again when transitioning to PFL!
