EDD PFL login issues after update - can I create new account with different email?

Ever since that big EDD system update last month, I've been completely locked out of my Paid Family Leave account!! It keeps telling me my information is incorrect no matter what I try 🤦‍♀️ I've reset my password like 5 times and still nothing works. My baby is due in 3 weeks and I need to check on my PFL claim status ASAP. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm thinking about just creating a whole new account with a different email address, but I'm worried it might mess up my existing claim or create some kind of fraud flag. Do they let you have multiple accounts? Would the new one even show my current claim info? I'm getting desperate here!

omg same!!! its been a nightmare since that stupid update. i tried 3 different browsers and nothing works. customer service is useless too

Did you end up getting back in? I've tried Chrome, Firefox AND my phone... nothing works 😫

DO NOT create a new account with a different email! This will definitely cause problems with your claim and potentially flag you for investigation. Each SSN should only have one associated EDD account. Instead, you need to do a complete account recovery: 1) Clear ALL browser cookies and cache first 2) Use the "Forgot User ID" option instead of password reset 3) When you get your User ID, THEN do the password reset 4) Make sure your password has at least one special character, uppercase letter, and number If that doesn't work, you have to call EDD directly to have them manually reset your account. The online system has been glitchy since the update.

Thank you for the detailed help! I tried your steps 1-4 but I'm STILL getting the same error message. Guess I'll have to call... which I've been avoiding because getting through seems impossible these days 😩

When I had my first baby in 2020, I had the exact same issue with the EDD website. I ended up having to call like 37 times before getting through. Then when I had my second baby last year, they had just done another update and I got locked out again!! The trick is you have to call exactly at 8:01am when they first open. Even one minute later and you'll get the "too many callers" message.

This is soooo typical of EDD. My sister-in-law had three kids and each time she had to deal with some new website disaster. She said it actually got worse after each "improvement" they made lol. The whole system needs to be rebuilt from scratch if you ask me.

A lot of people are struggling with the login issues after the update. I was in the same situation last week and spent hours trying to get through on the phone with no luck. Then I found this service called Claimyr that got me connected to an EDD rep in under 25 minutes - they basically call EDD for you and then call you when they have an agent on the line. Totally worth it when you're running out of time before your due date. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 and their website is claimyr.com. The EDD agent I spoke with was able to reset my account access right away once I got through.

OMG thank you for this! I've never heard of Claimyr before but I'm going to check it out right now. At this point I'm willing to try anything to get this fixed before the baby comes!

Don't create a new account!!! I did that exact thing back in January and it was a NIGHTMARE. They flagged my claim for fraud investigation and froze ALL my benefits for 6 weeks while they sorted it out. I had to upload my ID and birth certificate and wait for a phone interview to explain why I had two accounts. And to make it all worse, when they finally restored my access, I was back in my original account anyway - the new one got deleted. NOT WORTH IT.

I had a similar problem after the system update in February. What finally worked for me: 1. I had to use Microsoft Edge browser specifically (Chrome and Firefox both failed) 2. I had to disconnect from my home WiFi and use my phone's hotspot instead 3. I had to enter my birthdate in MM/DD/YYYY format even though the form said DD/MM/YYYY It's ridiculous that these workarounds are necessary, but the EDD system is incredibly finicky. Worth trying before you spend hours on the phone!

Thank you!!! I just tried your Edge browser suggestion and IT WORKED!! I can't believe it was that simple. The date format was correct for me, but something about Edge browser fixed it. You just saved me so much stress!

Great! So glad it worked for you! Make sure you download any documents or claim information you need now, just in case you have trouble logging in again. And congratulations on your upcoming baby!

btw i had my baby 3 months ago and the transition from SDI pregnancy disability to PFL baby bonding was another nightmare with the website... make sure you file the baby bonding claim the day after your pregnancy disability ends or you might have a gap in payments like i did!!

This is such important info! I had no idea about the timing between SDI and PFL. So you're saying I should file the baby bonding claim literally the day after my pregnancy disability ends? Is there a specific time of day that's better, or does it not matter as long as it's the same day?

Yes, definitely file it the very next day! I learned this the hard way when I had my daughter last year. There's actually a seamless transition option in the system if you file within 24 hours of your SDI ending, but if you wait longer than that you might have to wait for manual processing which can take weeks. Time of day doesn't really matter - I filed mine around 10pm and it went through fine. Just make sure you have your baby's birth certificate info ready!

I'm so glad you got it working with Microsoft Edge! I've been lurking here for a while and this EDD login nightmare seems to be affecting so many people. I'm expecting my first baby in June and honestly these stories have me terrified about dealing with EDD when the time comes. Quick question - for those who successfully got through, did you notice any issues with claim status updates or payment delays after the system update? I keep hearing mixed things about whether the backend issues are affecting actual benefit processing or just the login portal. Also @Keith Davidson thanks for the heads up about the SDI to PFL transition timing! That's exactly the kind of detail they don't tell you anywhere official but could save weeks of headaches.
