EDD wrongly stopping SDI benefits due to doctor license error - how to appeal?

So I got this notice saying my disability benefits are being stopped because my doctor isn't licensed. But here's the thing - my doctor IS licensed and has been the whole time! Now they're saying I was overpaid and they're cutting off my payments. What the heck am I supposed to do? Has anyone else dealt with this before? I'm freaking out here.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Wait, what? You have to pay to talk to EDD now? That's messed up.

I know it sounds weird, but it's not an EDD service. It's a third-party thing that just handles the hold time for you. Saved me hours of frustration.

Idk man, sounds kinda scammy to me. Has anyone else tried this?

β€’

Not a scam, I promise! I was skeptical too, but it legit works. Beats sitting on hold for 3 hours any day.

I've used it too and can confirm it worked for me as well.

Have you checked your myEDD account online? Sometimes there's more info there about why they made the decision. Might give you a clue about what exactly they're claiming is wrong with your doctor's license.

Good point! Sometimes the online system has more updated info.

To add to what has been said, remember that while services like Claimyr can offer a solution to the daunting task of navigating endless hold times, they do come at a cost. Weigh the convenience against the expense based on your situation. EDD can be a frustrating system, but a calm and methodical approach often yields the best results. Document every interaction, seek help from your medical provider, and maintain persistence. While Claimyr can be helpful, consider all available options to find the best path for you. Patience and vigilance are key. Best of luck!

Has anyone else noticed that EDD seems to be making more "mistakes" lately? I swear they're just trying to save money by denying claims left and right. It's getting ridiculous.

β€’

Yep, I've been saying this for months. They're hoping people will just give up and not appeal.

0 coins

Idk about that. My claim went through without any issues. Maybe we just hear about the bad cases more?

0 coins

It might be a mixture of both. System overload can lead to errors that seem intentional.

Update: Thanks everyone for the advice! I've started gathering all the docs and I'm gonna call my doctor's office tomorrow. Fingers crossed I can get this sorted without too much more stress. You guys are awesome! πŸ™Œ

Hang in there, it's frustrating but keep pushing through.

Have you tried reaching out to your doctor's office? They might have dealt with this before and could have some advice. Plus, they should be able to provide you with any documentation you need.

This happened to my cousin. Turns out EDD had the wrong license number on file for her doctor. Double-check all the info they have is correct. One wrong digit can cause a world of trouble!

0 coins

Oh man, I didn't even think of that. I'll def check that out. Thanks for the tip!

Yep, happened to me too. EDD's database is a joke. They had my doctor's old license # from like 10 years ago πŸ™„

It's amazing how one small error in their records can cause such big problems.

Pro tip: If you can't get through on the phone, try contacting EDD through social media. Sometimes their Twitter team is more responsive than the phone lines. Worth a shot! πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

tldr; EDD sucks, water is wet. πŸ™ƒ But seriously, hang in there OP. The system is broken af but don't let it break you!

Well said! It's tough, but persistence pays off.

Ugh, classic EDD nonsense. They're always looking for ways to deny benefits. Have you tried contacting your doctor to get proof of their license? You might need to send that in to appeal the decision.

Agreed. EDD seems to make a lot of errors like this. It's frustrating, but don't lose hope!

I had a similar issue last year. It took MONTHS to resolve, but I finally got it sorted. Here's what I did: 1. Got a letter from my doctor confirming their license status 2. Contacted my local state representative's office for help 3. Filed a formal appeal with EDD 4. Kept calling EDD (like, every day) until I got someone helpful Don't give up! It's a pain, but you can get this fixed.

0 coins

Thanks for the advice! How long did the whole process take for you?

0 coins

Avery Saint

β€’

It took about 3 months from start to finish. The most frustrating part was getting through to EDD on the phone. Felt like I was banging my head against a wall somedays 😫

β€’

3 MONTHS?! Jeez, that's ridiculous. The system is so broken πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

It's crazy how these issues take so long to sort out when they seem like simple errors.

Okay, listen up. I work in healthcare administration, so I know a thing or two about this mess. Here's what you need to do: 1. Get a copy of your doctor's current medical license. Make sure it includes the issue date and expiration date. 2. Write a formal letter to EDD explaining the situation. Include your claim number, the date of the notice you received, and a clear statement that your doctor is and has been licensed. 3. Include a copy of your doctor's license with your letter. 4. Send everything via certified mail so you have proof they received it. 5. File an appeal immediately if you haven't already. You usually have 30 days from the date of the notice. 6. Contact your state representative or senator's office. They can often help expedite these issues. 7. Keep detailed records of every communication with EDD. Dates, times, names of who you spoke to, what was said. 8. If your benefits have been cut off, look into applying for emergency assistance programs in your area while this gets sorted out. Remember, EDD deals with thousands of claims. Mistakes happen. Stay persistent and document everything. You've got this!

0 coins

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'm definitely going to follow these steps. Really appreciate you taking the time to write all this out!

β€’

This is gold πŸ’― Saving this for future reference!

0 coins

Quick question - does the appeal have to be sent separately from the letter explaining the situation, or can they be combined?

0 coins

Wesley Hallow

β€’

You can combine them, just make sure the appeal is clearly marked within the document.

This is so frustrating! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now where EDD flagged my doctor's license as "inactive" even though she's been practicing for 15 years. It's like their system just randomly picks people to harass. The worst part is trying to get someone on the phone who actually knows what they're talking about. Half the time they just read from a script and can't actually help. I've been gathering all my documentation too - hopefully we can both get this nightmare sorted out soon. Stay strong! πŸ’ͺ

Mia Roberts

β€’

Ugh, that's exactly what I'm going through too! It's like they have some broken algorithm that just randomly flags doctors. The "inactive" license thing is especially maddening when you know your doctor is clearly still practicing. I've been on hold for hours multiple times just to get someone who tells me they can't help and I need to talk to a different department. It's like they're designed to make you give up! But we got this - let's keep fighting the good fight! 🀝

I went through something very similar last month! EDD flagged my doctor as "unlicensed" when she's been my treating physician for 3 years. Turns out they had her old license number from before she renewed. What saved me was getting a letter directly from the California Medical Board confirming her current license status - not just from her office, but from the actual licensing board. You can request this online for like $25. Also, when you appeal, make sure to reference the specific DE 2500A form they use for medical certification. Having the exact form number and citing their own policies seemed to help move things along faster. Don't let them wear you down - you've got legitimate benefits coming to you!

0 coins

This is super helpful! I didn't know you could get verification directly from the Medical Board - that sounds way more official than just getting something from the doctor's office. $25 is totally worth it if it speeds up the process. Do you remember how long it took to get the letter from them? And thanks for the tip about referencing the DE 2500A form - I'm definitely going to mention that in my appeal. It's crazy how knowing their own form numbers can make such a difference!

This exact same thing happened to me about 6 months ago! EDD sent me a notice saying my doctor wasn't licensed and that I owed back $3,000 in "overpayments." I was absolutely panicking because my doctor has been practicing for over 20 years and obviously has a valid license. What ended up happening was that EDD's system had somehow pulled an old, expired license number instead of his current one. It took me about 6 weeks to get it sorted out, but here's what worked for me: 1. I got a certified letter from my doctor's office with his current license info 2. I also got the official verification from the Medical Board like someone else mentioned (totally worth the fee) 3. I filed the appeal within the 30-day window - super important! 4. I kept calling EDD every few days to check status The most frustrating part was that even after I submitted all the proof, it took them forever to actually process it and restart my payments. But they did eventually fix it AND they paid me all the back benefits I was owed during the time it was suspended. Don't let them intimidate you with the "overpayment" stuff - if your doctor is legitimately licensed (which it sounds like they are), you're entitled to those benefits. Just stay persistent and document everything!

Khalil Urso

β€’

This is so reassuring to hear! The "overpayment" notice is what really freaked me out - I was worried they'd make me pay back thousands even though this is clearly their mistake. It's good to know that you got all your back benefits once it was sorted out. Six weeks is still way too long for what should be a simple database correction, but at least there's light at the end of the tunnel. I'm definitely going to follow your steps and get that Medical Board verification. Thanks for sharing your experience - it really helps to know I'm not alone in dealing with this bureaucratic nightmare!
