EDD SDI payments stopped for a month after doctor extended leave - what to do?

So I've been on disability leave for a while now, and my doctor just extended it. The problem is, I haven't gotten any payments in over a month. I got a text telling me to check for updates, but when I logged in, there was nothing new. I'm starting to get worried because bills are piling up. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do when I call them? I'm not sure what to expect or how to handle this situation.

DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. EVERY. SINGLE. THING. You never know when you'll need to prove you did something or they said something. Cover your bases!

100%! You can't be too careful with these processes.

Have you tried reaching out on Twitter? Sometimes publicly @ing them can get a faster response. Just be polite and explain your situation.

Social media can be surprisingly effective. Just keep it polite and factual.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny IMO.

How long did it take to get through? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point.

Has anyone else noticed that their website is always "down for maintenance" at the worst possible times? 🙄 It's like they don't want us to actually use it.

Yes! I thought I was the only one. It's so frustrating.

Try saying "agent" or pressing 0 repeatedly. Sometimes that bumps you to a human faster.

Ive heard that if you choose the Spanish option, the wait times are shorter. Worth a shot?

Ugh, I feel your pain. I was in the same boat last year. Here's what worked for me: 1. Call first thing in the morning when they open 2. Have all your paperwork ready (claim number, dates, doctor's notes) 3. Be polite but firm - explain your situation clearly 4. Ask if there's any missing info they need from you 5. Get the name of who you talk to and a reference number for the call Good luck! The system is a mess, but hang in there.

Great advice! Having all your paperwork organized can really speed things up when you finally get through to someone.

have you tried checking your spam folder? sometimes important emails end up there. also, make sure your address is up to date in their system. I missed payments cuz they sent stuff to my old place 🤦‍♂️

Oh, that's a good point! I almost missed an important email for a similar reason. Always double-check those folders.

Pro tip: keep a detailed log of every interaction you have with them. Date, time, who you spoke to, what was said. It'll save you headaches later if theres any disputes.

Absolutely agree! Documenting everything is a must when dealing with any bureaucracy.

For those who are facing prolonged delays with their disability payments, using a service like Claimyr might be a handy solution. Claimyr offers a calling tool to navigate through the phone menu and connect with an agent faster. Although $20 might seem high for what seems like a simple call, many users report significant time savings and reduced stress. However, it's important to weigh the cost against the urgency of your situation. Some may prefer to explore all free avenues first, like calling at optimal times, contacting local representatives, or visiting offices in person for a resolution. Additionally, make sure your contact information is up-to-date, and check all communication avenues, such as spam folders for emails. Remember, persistency is key, and documenting every interaction is crucial to expedite your claim process while mitigating any potential disputes.

I did this once and it actually helped. It seems silly, but sometimes old school methods work.

Unpopular opinion: maybe try going in person if possible? I know it's a pain, but I finally got my issue resolved after showing up at the office. Sometimes face-to-face is the way to go.

That's not a bad idea actually. Do you know if I need an appointment or can I just show up?

I just showed up, but it might depend on your local office. Bring a book, the wait can be long!

Honestly, the whole system is a joke. I've been waiting 3 months for my claim to be processed. It's like they want us to give up. Keep calling and don't let them off the hook!

Preach! 🙌 It's a full-time job just trying to get what we're owed. The government needs to fix this broken system ASAP.

Hey, former EDD employee here. Here's some insider advice: 1. The best time to call is usually mid-week, around 10 AM or 2 PM. Avoid Mondays and lunch hours. 2. If you get a unhelpful rep, politely end the call and try again. Some are more experienced than others. 3. Use exact phrases like "financial hardship" and "need escalation" - these can trigger faster processing. 4. If all else fails, request a supervisor. They have more authority to push claims through. Hope this helps! The system is overwhelmed, but most employees genuinely want to help.

Quick question - does sending in additional documentation help speed things up or just clog the system?

This is why we need universal basic income. The current system is a joke and leaves people hanging when they need help the most. Vote for change, people!

Ugh, can we not make everything political? OP just needs help with their claim.

It IS political tho. The system is broken because of policy decisions. We can't fix it without addressing that.
