EDD silent treatment: No updates on unemployment claim, what to do?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I filed for unemployment a while back and I haven't heard a peep from EDD. No updates, no letters, nothing. It's like my claim vanished into thin air. Anyone else dealing with this silent treatment? I'm starting to worry that something went wrong with my application. Any advice on what I should do next? I'm getting pretty desperate here.

Guys, I found a method to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•$20 to actually talk to someone? Might be worth it at this point tbh

•Yep, it's legit. I was skeptical too but I was desperate. It worked for me and saved me hours of frustration.

•Idk man, paying to get through to a government agency feels wrong. The system is so broken 😤

•Claimyr seems like a practical solution amidst all the chaos. While it's unfortunate we need third-party help, if it works, might as well use it.

Claimyr might be a good option if you continue to face difficulties. It has been a game-changer for many who are stuck waiting for EDD responses. While the idea of paying might not sit well with everyone, it's sometimes worth considering if it can expedite resolving your claim. On the flip side, it's also important to assess free options first and consider Claimyr as a supplementary tool. Balancing between persistence with the system and utilizing available tools can hopefully bring you closer to a solution.

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes EDD emails end up there. Also, make sure your address is up to date in their system. You'd be surprised how often that's the issue.

•Good idea, I'll double check my spam. Didn't even think of that tbh. Thanks!

•This! I missed out on benefits for weeks cuz their mail was going to my old address. Don't make the same mistake I did 😭

•Same here, updating my address fixed it almost instantly. It's a simple check but can solve the problem quickly.

Hey OP, don't lose hope. I know it feels like you're screaming into the void, but keep at it. I was in your shoes 2 months ago and finally got my benefits last week. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I was in the same boat last month. Turns out there was a "discrepancy" in my application that they never bothered to tell me about. Keep trying to reach them!

•This happened to me too. I recommend double-checking your application for any errors while you're waiting to get through.

Welcome to the club, buddy. EDD's been ghosting a lot of us lately. Have you tried calling them? It's a nightmare, but sometimes it's the only way to get answers.

•Yeah, I've tried calling but it's impossible to get through. It's like trying to win the lottery or something.

•Pro tip: call right when they open. I mean like, set an alarm and everything. Sometimes you can sneak through before the lines get jammed.

•It's really frustrating, isn't it? I spent hours redialing before I got through. Consider using a speakerphone so at least you can multitask while trying.

lmao welcome to the wonderful world of EDD where nothing makes sense and the rules are made up 🤡 but for real, hang in there. It sucks but you'll get through eventually.

This is why we need UBI. The current system is a joke. 🤦♂️

•Preach! 🙌 This whole system is held together with duct tape and prayers.

•Let's not turn this into a political debate. OP just needs help with their claim.

•While UBI is a bigger conversation, it does bring to light how strained current systems can get. OP, remember to stay focused on immediate steps to resolve your issue.

Have you tried the EDD website? Sometimes you can see the status of your claim there even if you haven't received any mail.

•I tried, but it just says "pending" with no other info. It's so frustrating!

Seriously tho, has anyone else noticed that EDD seems to be getting worse? I got benefits last year no problem, but now it's like pulling teeth.

•For real. I think they're understaffed and overwhelmed. Doesn't make it suck any less tho.

•It's cuz of all the fraud. They're being extra careful now, which means more delays for honest folks like us. 😑

•There's definitely a backlog and more scrutiny due to fraud. It's frustrating but hang in there, keep pushing.

Okay, listen up. I've been through this rodeo before and here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of when you filed, any attempts to contact them, etc. 2. Try reaching out through their online portal if you haven't already. Sometimes it's faster than calling. 3. If you still can't get through, consider contacting your local state representative. They often have liaisons who can help with EDD issues. 4. Be persistent but patient. The system is overwhelmed, but they will get to you eventually. 5. While you're waiting, make sure you're certifying for benefits every two weeks, even if you haven't heard back about your initial claim. 6. Join Facebook groups or other online communities for unemployment support. Sometimes you can get insider tips there. Remember, you're not alone in this. The system is frustrating, but don't give up!

Have you tried faxing them? I know it sounds like something from the stone age, but I've heard some people have had success with that.

•Incredibly, faxing can sometimes bypass the digital backlog issues. Worth a shot, even if it's old school.
