EDD claim vanished - applied 5 weeks ago but nothing online or in mail

I'm at my wit's end trying to figure out what's going on with my EDD claim. I submitted an application 5 weeks ago after being laid off from my healthcare admin job, but there's absolutely NOTHING showing up online when I log into UI Online. No claim status, no pending items, literally nothing. Haven't received a single piece of mail from EDD either - no customer account number, no confirmation, nothing at all. It's like my application went into a black hole. Are they still this backlogged in 2025? I've tried calling but keep getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and then it hangs up. My savings are getting dangerously low and I'm starting to panic. Has anyone else experienced this complete radio silence after applying? What should I do next?

same thing happend to me last month! it's like they just swallow up applications and forget about them. took me calling like 50 times to get anyone

That's so frustrating! Did you eventually get through? What number were you calling specifically?

This doesn't sound normal. Even with delays, you should have at least received something in the mail acknowledging your application by now. A few things to check: 1. Make sure you created your UI Online account with EXACTLY the same information you submitted on your application (same spelling of name, same phone, email, etc) 2. Did you receive a confirmation number when you submitted your application? If so, have that ready when calling 3. Try accessing the system very early in the morning (right when the website opens at 4am) - sometimes there are synchronization issues that resolve overnight 4. Check your spam folder for emails from EDD If none of that works, you'll need to speak with a representative directly. They should be able to look up your application status with your SSN and other identifying information.

Thank you for these suggestions! I've checked my spam folders and tried logging in with slight variations of my information just in case, but no luck. I do have my confirmation number from when I applied, which makes it even more frustrating that there's no record of my claim online. I'll try the early morning login tip tomorrow.

EDD is a COMPLETE NIGHTMARE right now!!! I had the EXACT same issue in January - applied and then NOTHING for 6 weeks. No mail, nothing online, just silence. Found out later they had some "identity verification flag" on my account that nobody bothered to tell me about. Meanwhile I'm draining my savings trying to pay bills while they sit on my application!!! The system is BROKEN. They've cut so many staff that nobody's processing applications. Your claim is probably sitting in someone's digital inbox who's overwhelmed with 500 other cases.

this is why i always tell people to file in person at the job center if possible! they at least confirm right there that everything is entered correctly.

Just wondering - did you try to file as SDI instead of UI? They're different systems and that might explain why you're not seeing anything. My cousin did that by accident and was looking in the wrong place for weeks.

0 coins

No, I'm pretty sure I applied for regular UI since I was laid off. I went through the unemployment portal, not disability. Is there a way to check if I somehow applied for the wrong benefit type?

You would have gone through different application processes for UI versus SDI. The UI application asks about your previous employer, reason for separation, etc. SDI asks about medical conditions and healthcare providers. If you're certain you applied for unemployment after a layoff, you were likely in the right system.

After struggling for 3 weeks with the same issue (application submitted but nothing showing online), I finally got through to an EDD representative using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have this service that basically calls EDD for you and connects you when they get through. Saved me hours of redial frustration. The EDD rep found my application was stuck in identity verification but there was no notification sent to me! They fixed it on the spot. Check out their demo video: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Anyway, once I got through to a real person, they resolved everything in about 15 minutes. My claim started processing the next day and I had my Money Network card within a week.

I've never heard of this service, but I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. Did the EDD rep explain why your application wasn't showing up online? That's the part that's confusing me the most.

0 coins

Yes! The rep explained that sometimes applications get flagged for additional verification but the notification system fails to send alerts. In my case, they needed additional employment history verification but the request never made it to my UI inbox or mail. Once the rep manually reviewed it, they pushed it through the system and it appeared in my UI Online account about 12 hours later.

Have you checked if your identity verification went through properly? Since 2023, EDD has been using enhanced ID.me verification, and if there's any issue with that step, your claim essentially sits in limbo without notification. Here's what I suggest: 1. Try accessing ID.me directly and see if your verification shows as complete 2. Call the technical support line (not the regular EDD line) at 1-855-327-7057 - they sometimes have shorter wait times 3. Check if your employer has responded to their employment verification request 4. Request a backdate when they do fix it so you don't lose those 5 weeks of benefits The system definitely has gaps where applications can get stuck between initial submission and appearing in your online account. An experienced representative can usually find it in their system, even if it's not showing in yours.

I did complete the ID.me verification when I initially applied, and it seemed to go through successfully. I'll try calling that technical support number tomorrow morning. I hadn't thought about the employer verification - I wonder if my former employer has responded to EDD yet. Thank you for these suggestions!

btw make sure ur checking ui online and not benefit programs online there different systems and people mix them up all the time

I'm definitely checking UI Online. I've tried both the mobile and desktop versions too, just in case there was some weird display issue.

my brother had this happen last yr. turns out they sent his paperwork to wrong address even tho he entered right one. check ur mail forwarding maybe?

Just to follow up - have you tried visiting an in-person EDD office? Sometimes that's the most direct way to get these invisible application issues resolved. They can look up your information on the spot and tell you exactly what's going on. I know it's not convenient, but it might save you weeks of waiting and calling.

I didn't realize we could still go to physical EDD offices! There's one about 30 minutes from me. Do I need an appointment or can I just walk in? I'll try anything at this point.

0 coins

Most offices require appointments now, but some have walk-in hours in the morning. Check the EDD website for your local office's specific hours and appointment requirements. Bring multiple forms of ID, your social security card, and your application confirmation number if you have it. Also bring any layoff documentation from your employer if available.

THIS IS WHY I HATE EDD!!! They make us jump through all these hoops while bills pile up. And then they have the NERVE to backdate our claims and act like everything's fine. News flash: landlords and utility companies don't accept "EDD is processing my claim" as payment!!! The whole system needs to be scrapped and rebuilt. It's 2025 and they're still using technology from 2010!

preach! 👏 took me 9 weeks to get first payment last year

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone at EDD! I took several of your suggestions - tried the technical support line first thing in the morning, and when that didn't work, I used Claimyr to connect with a claims specialist. Turns out my application was flagged because I had two W-2 employers in 2024 (I changed jobs 8 months before being laid off). The system needed manual review to combine the wage information, but nobody ever notified me! The representative apologized and pushed my claim through manually. Within hours my UI Online account updated and now shows my claim status as processing. The rep said I should receive my customer account number in the mail within 3-5 days and will be able to certify for the past 5 weeks all at once. Thank you all for your help! This forum was truly a lifesaver when I was feeling lost in the EDD void.

That's great news! Make sure you certify as soon as you're able to. When you do your mass certification for the past 5 weeks, be extra careful with the reporting - any mistakes could cause further delays. Glad you got it resolved!

So happy Claimyr worked for you too! And thanks for coming back to share what happened - these success stories help others in the same situation know there's hope.

Congratulations on getting it resolved! This is exactly why I always recommend people keep detailed records of their employment history when applying. The multiple employer situation is super common but EDD's system isn't great at handling it automatically. For anyone else reading this thread with similar issues - Marcus's experience shows that persistence really does pay off. Don't give up if your application seems to have disappeared. There's usually a logical explanation, even if the system doesn't communicate it properly. Also want to emphasize what Marcus did right: he kept his confirmation number, tried multiple approaches (different phone lines, different times of day), and didn't assume the worst. Sometimes these "vanished" applications are just stuck in a review queue that doesn't generate notifications. Thanks for sharing your resolution - posts like this help so many people who are going through the same stress!

This is such a relief to read your update! I'm actually dealing with a very similar situation right now - applied 3 weeks ago and nothing showing up online. Your story gives me hope that there's a logical explanation. I also had multiple employers last year (switched jobs twice actually) so I'm wondering if that's causing the same issue for me. Going to try calling that technical support number tomorrow morning and maybe look into Claimyr if I can't get through. Thanks for taking the time to update us on what happened - it really helps to know these "disappeared" applications usually aren't actually lost, just stuck somewhere in their system waiting for manual review.

Hey Liam! I'm in almost the exact same boat - applied 4 weeks ago with multiple employers from last year and absolutely nothing showing up online. Reading Marcus's update gives me so much hope that there's actually a real reason for this radio silence. I'm definitely going to try that technical support line first thing tomorrow morning. It's such a relief to know these applications aren't just disappearing into thin air, even though it sure feels that way when you're staring at a blank UI Online account. Keep us posted on how it goes for you!

This thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm dealing with almost the exact same situation - filed 4 weeks ago after being laid off from my marketing job and absolutely nothing in UI Online or by mail. Reading Marcus's resolution gives me so much hope that there's actually a logical explanation. I also had multiple W-2s last year (switched companies in June) so I'm wondering if that's what's causing my application to be stuck in manual review too. Going to try calling that technical support number at 1-855-327-7057 first thing tomorrow morning, and if that doesn't work I'll look into Claimyr. It's such a relief to know these "vanished" applications aren't actually lost forever, just stuck somewhere waiting for a human to review them. The stress of thinking your application just disappeared into the void is almost worse than waiting for approval! Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and solutions.

Dylan, you're definitely not alone in this! The multiple W-2 situation seems to be a really common trigger for these manual review holds. I went through something similar last year - had three different employers and my claim got stuck for almost 6 weeks with zero communication. When you call that technical support line, make sure you have all your employment dates and employer information ready. They'll likely need to verify the wage records from each job to make sure everything adds up correctly. Also, don't get discouraged if the first rep you talk to can't immediately see what's wrong - sometimes it takes escalating to a specialist who deals specifically with wage record issues. The waiting is absolutely brutal when bills are piling up, but Marcus's story shows there's usually light at the end of the tunnel. Fingers crossed you get it sorted out quickly!

Reading through everyone's experiences here really highlights how broken EDD's notification system is. It's absolutely unacceptable that people are applying for unemployment benefits and then getting complete radio silence for weeks or months. Marcus, I'm so glad you finally got resolution, but the fact that you had to jump through so many hoops just to find out your application was sitting in a review queue is ridiculous. For anyone else dealing with this nightmare, I'd also suggest documenting everything - keep screenshots of your blank UI Online account, save confirmation numbers, write down dates and times of phone calls. If you eventually need to escalate or file a complaint, having that paper trail can be really helpful. The multiple employer issue seems to be a major trigger for these invisible holds. EDD really needs to fix their system to automatically notify people when applications require manual review instead of just letting them sit in digital limbo while people panic about their financial situation.

Absolutely agree with everything you said, Ryder. The lack of transparency in their system is infuriating - people are left wondering if they did something wrong or if their application even exists. I'm dealing with this exact situation right now (3 weeks and counting with no online presence) and the stress of not knowing what's happening is almost worse than just waiting for approval. The fact that Marcus had to use a third-party service just to get through to someone who could explain what was going on is a perfect example of how broken the system is. Thanks for the documentation tip - I've been screenshotting my blank UI Online page every few days just in case I need proof later. It's sad that we have to protect ourselves like this from our own state agency.
