EDD SDI Payment Delay: Faxed Doctor's Paperwork Not Processed - How Long to Wait?
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my disability payment. I sent a fax to the EDD with some paperwork from my doctor, but I'm not sure if they got it. Has anyone else had this problem? How long does it usually take for them to process faxed documents? I'm getting worried because I really need this payment to come through soon.

Here's what I've learned from dealing with EDD for the past 6 months: 1. Always keep copies of EVERYTHING you send them. 2. Follow up with a phone call after faxing (use the trick mentioned above if needed). 3. Be persistent. Don't assume they received or processed your documents. 4. If possible, use their online portal to upload documents instead of faxing. 5. Keep a log of all your communications with them (dates, times, who you spoke to). 6. If you're not getting anywhere, reach out to your local state representative's office. They can sometimes help push things through. Hope this helps! The system is frustrating, but don't give up. You'll get there!

Don't give up! I know it's hard, but keep pushing. Have you tried reaching out to your local rep?

It can be overwhelming, but sometimes persistence and using every available contact can eventually lead to a resolution.

PSA: If your disability claim is urgent due to financial hardship, you can request an expedited processing. You'll need to provide proof of hardship (eviction notice, utility shutoff, etc.), but it can speed things up significantly.

Really? I had no idea this was an option. Thank you so much for sharing this info!

This should be common knowledge! EDD doesn't advertise it, but it's a lifesaver for some people.

Has anyone tried the new EDD mobile app? I heard it's supposed to make document submission easier, but idk if it actually works any better than the website.

I tried it. It's marginally better, but still has a lot of bugs. At least you can check your status more easily.

The app is okay for checking stuff, but I wouldn't trust it for uploading important documents yet. Still too glitchy.

The concept is good, but it seems like EDD needs more time to work out the kinks in the app.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Wait, seriously? Is this legit? Sounds too good to be true.

Yep, 100% legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😡

I get it, but think about how much time and stress it saves. For me, it was worth it to finally get answers.

It might seem expensive, but if you consider the time you save and the peace of mind you gain, it could be worth it for some people.

One more thing to consider is keeping in touch with support groups or forums like this one. Sometimes, collective knowledge can help uncover lesser-known solutions or provide much-needed emotional support during such frustrating times.

Update: I finally got through to someone on the phone (used that Claimyr service, it actually worked!). Turns out they did receive my fax, but it's sitting in a backlog. The agent said it could take up to 4 more weeks to process. Ugh. At least I know they have it now.

4 weeks?! That's crazy. But at least you know where you stand now. Hang in there!

Typical EDD... glad you got some info tho. Did they say if there's any way to expedite it?

Thanks everyone. No way to speed it up unfortunately. Just gotta wait it out I guess. 😞

Knowing that there's nothing to expedite can at least help you plan your finances for the next few weeks.

Does anyone have experience with submitting documents via certified mail as opposed to faxing? Does it make any difference in terms of processing time?

Felix Grigori
I tried certified mail once and it definitely helped in terms of tracking. They still took their time processing it, but at least I had proof of delivery.

Certified mail can be a good option for peace of mind, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem to speed up the actual processing.

Pro tip: Always follow up with a phone call after faxing anything to EDD. Their fax system is notoriously unreliable. I learned this the hard way after waiting for months only to find out they never received my documents. 🤦♂️

Thanks for the advice! But getting through on the phone is another nightmare. Any tips for that?

Omg yes! I second this. ALWAYS call to confirm. It's a pain but better than waiting forever for nothing.

In addition to calling early, sometimes using a different phone line or even calling from a friend's phone can help. It's like magic sometimes.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I've been in the same boat. Faxing stuff to EDD is like throwing papers into a black hole sometimes. It took them almost 3 weeks to even acknowledge they got my fax. Hang in there!

Three weeks? That's such a long time to wait just to get a confirmation. It's frustrating how inefficient the system is for something so important.

Just a heads up, with the new budget cuts, processing times are even slower than usual. I've been waiting 2 months for them to process a simple form. It's ridiculous.
