Mailed corrected medical form to EDD 10 days ago - still not showing up in my claim

I'm freaking out a little because my doctor put the wrong date on my disability form, which could seriously affect my claim. She filled out a correction form and I sent it via certified mail to EDD on 2/15. USPS tracking shows it was delivered on 2/18, but when I called EDD yesterday, the rep said they haven't received or uploaded anything from my doctor yet! Has anyone dealt with this before? How long does it typically take for mailed documents to actually get processed once EDD receives them? I'm getting really worried because I'm approaching 8 weeks without income now and my savings are running out. Should I be doing something else to speed this up? My doctor says she can't fax it because her office policy is to mail all disability paperwork. 😣

Oh man, I went through this exact problem in January. The mail processing is SOOOO slow right now. My doctor fixed a simple date error on my form and it took almost THREE WEEKS after delivery for it to show up in my SDI account! The most frustrating part was that they had physically received it (I also sent certified) but it sat in some pile waiting to be scanned and processed. Calling didn't help at all.

Three weeks?! I can't wait that long! Did your payments get delayed because of this? I'm already behind on rent...

2-3 weeks is normal for them to process mail. Sometimes even longer tbh. EDD is just really backed up all the time.

Not always true! When I sent in my medical docs last month they processed it in 4 days!! But my cousin waited 5 weeks for her pregnancy disability paperwork to get processed. I think it depends which office it goes to and how backed up they are. Seems totally random!!

There are a few things you need to understand about how EDD processes mailed documents: 1. Mail is received at a central mailroom first 2. It's then sorted and forwarded to the appropriate department 3. Once the right department gets it, it's scanned into your file 4. Only after scanning will it show up in your online account This entire process can take 2-4 weeks even though they physically have your document. Unfortunately, certified mail only proves delivery to the mailroom, not processing. What you should do now: 1. Ask your doctor if they can complete a new correction form 2. See if your doctor can submit it through SDI Online directly (physicians have access) 3. If not, ask if they can fax it to EDD instead of mailing - faxes are processed much faster 4. Keep checking your SDI Online account daily for updates If your claim is urgent due to financial hardship, make sure to mention that when you call EDD again.

Thank you for explaining the process! My doctor is being difficult about doing anything besides mail (old school office). Is there any way to escalate this with EDD since they physically have the document already? I've tried calling but keep getting disconnected.

i had this issue too!!! took 26 days for my paperwork to show up on my claim after it was delivered. edd is THE WORST at processing mail. my neighbor works at the post office and says they deliver BAGS of mail to edd everyday and they're super understaffed. hang in there!!

I went through a similar situation last year, and what I discovered is that there's a huge difference between when EDD physically receives your mail and when they actually process it. For me, it took about 3 weeks after delivery for the documents to appear in my account. However, I found a solution that might help you. I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an EDD representative quickly instead of dealing with constant busy signals and disconnections. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd Once I got through to a live person, I explained that my documents had been delivered weeks ago (with proof of delivery) and that I was experiencing financial hardship. The representative was able to flag my file for priority processing, and my documents were scanned within 48 hours after that call. Before using their service, I spent days trying to get through on my own without success.

I've never heard of this service before. Did you actually get someone on the phone who could help? Every time I call, I either can't get through or the person tells me they can't do anything but wait.

Yes, I actually spoke with a real claims specialist who had the authority to help with my situation. The key was explaining that I had proof of delivery (tracking number) and was experiencing financial hardship. Not every rep will offer to expedite processing, but many will if you clearly explain your situation. Also, call early in the morning (right when they open) for the best chance of reaching someone who can help. The claims specialists with more authority tend to work the early shifts.

their a bunch of incompitent idiots over there!!!! i sent in a correction form in decembrr and they LOST IT completely!!!! had to resend everything and my payments were delayed for TWO MONTHS!!! the whole system is broken!!!

While I understand your frustration, the SDI division actually has a fairly good track record compared to UI. The issue here isn't incompetence - it's that they're processing over 250,000 disability claims each month with limited staff. Mail processing is always going to be slower than electronic submission, which is why they strongly encourage doctors to use SDI Online.

So my doctor did something similar, except she forgot to sign one page of my form. I just had her complete a whole new form and then I drove it to an EDD office in person. They have drop boxes and I got confirmation it was processed within a week. Is there an office anywhere near you? That's WAY faster than mailing!

There's an office about 45 minutes away. Do they still have drop boxes post-COVID? I thought most offices were closed to the public or appointment only. I'll definitely try this if it's an option!

0 coins

Yes! Most offices reopened their drop boxes even if the lobbies are still appointment-only. Just call the specific office first to confirm their hours and drop box availability. Bring two copies and ask them to stamp one as received for your records! That's what I did and it saved me so much stress.

just wondering did you write your claim # on every page of the document you mailed? if not they might have trouble matching it to your file

0 coins

Yes, I made sure to write my claim number on every page and also included a cover sheet with all my info. I'm just confused why it's taking so long to process when they physically have it.

One other thing to try - call your state assembly member's office. They have EDD liaisons who can sometimes speed things up. Worked for my cousin when her pregnancy disability was stuck in processing hell for weeks.

I'm dealing with something similar right now! My doctor had to correct a mistake on my disability form and I'm on day 12 of waiting for it to show up in my account after delivery. The anxiety is real when you're depending on these payments. A few things I've learned from my experience: - Try calling EDD at exactly 8:00 AM when they open - you have a better chance of getting through - When you do get someone, ask specifically if they can see that your document was received and if it can be flagged for priority processing due to financial hardship - Keep your certified mail receipt handy when you call - having that tracking number helps prove delivery I'm also considering driving to the nearest EDD office with a drop box if I can get my doctor to fill out another correction form. It seems like in-person delivery gets processed much faster than mail. Hang in there - I know how stressful this waiting period is! 💙

Thanks for sharing your experience Connor! It's somewhat comforting to know I'm not the only one going through this right now. I've been trying to call at 8 AM sharp but keep getting the busy signal or getting disconnected after waiting on hold for an hour. Did you actually get through to someone who could help, or are you still waiting too? I'm definitely going to look into the drop box option - seems like multiple people here have had success with in-person delivery. This whole situation is so stressful when you're already dealing with a disability and financial pressure! 😔

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! My doctor had to correct a date error on my disability form and I mailed it certified on 2/12. It was delivered on 2/14 but still hasn't shown up in my account after 2+ weeks. I called yesterday and the rep said they couldn't see any recent documents from my doctor either. What's really frustrating is that I can see they physically have it (certified mail tracking), but it's just sitting somewhere waiting to be processed. I'm also running low on savings and getting really anxious about when this will finally get resolved. After reading all these comments, I think I'm going to try the drop box approach if there's an EDD office near me. It sounds like that might be faster than waiting for the mail processing backlog. Also going to try calling right at 8 AM tomorrow to see if I can get someone who can flag my file for priority processing. This whole system is so broken when people are depending on these payments to survive! Thanks for posting about this - it helps to know others are dealing with the same delays.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this too, Fidel! It's honestly ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops when we're already struggling with disabilities and financial stress. The fact that multiple people here have the same exact problem shows this is a systemic issue with their mail processing. I really hope the drop box approach works for you - from what everyone's saying, it seems like the fastest option if you can get your doctor to cooperate with filling out another form. The 8 AM calling strategy also sounds promising. Keep us updated on how it goes! We're all in this together and it really does help to know we're not alone in this frustrating process. Fingers crossed both our corrections get processed soon! 🤞

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this stress! I went through something very similar last year when my doctor made an error on my disability form. The waiting is absolutely nerve-wracking, especially when you're already struggling financially. Here's what worked for me after weeks of frustration: 1. **Document everything** - Keep your certified mail receipt and take screenshots of the tracking showing delivery. This is crucial evidence when you call. 2. **Call strategy** - I had the most success calling at exactly 8:00 AM when they open. I used the disability line (not the main UI number) and was persistent but polite about my financial hardship situation. 3. **Assembly member route** - This was a game changer for me! I contacted my state assembly member's office and explained the situation. They have direct EDD contacts and were able to get my documents flagged for processing within 3 days. 4. **Get your doctor involved** - Even though your doctor prefers mail, explain the urgent situation. Many doctors don't realize how long EDD mail processing takes. Mine was willing to call EDD directly once she understood the delay was causing financial hardship. The whole process took about 18 days from delivery to showing up in my account, but once I got the assembly member involved, things moved quickly. Don't give up - you have options! The system is definitely broken but there are ways to work around it. Hang in there - you're not alone in this! 💪

This is incredibly helpful advice, Aria! Thank you so much for sharing your experience and the specific steps that worked for you. I had no idea that assembly members could help with EDD issues - that's such valuable information that I wish more people knew about. The 18-day timeline you mentioned actually gives me some hope since I'm at day 10 now. I'm definitely going to try contacting my assembly member's office tomorrow morning. Do you remember roughly how long it took them to respond and get involved with your case? Also, when your doctor called EDD directly, did she just use the main number or was there a specific physician line? My doctor has been pretty resistant to doing anything beyond mailing, but maybe if I explain that there's a direct number for doctors she might be more willing to help. Thanks again for taking the time to write such a detailed response - it really means a lot when you're feeling overwhelmed by this whole process! 🙏

I'm so sorry you're going through this - the waiting and uncertainty is absolutely awful when you're already dealing with a disability and financial stress! I went through something very similar about 6 months ago when my doctor made an error on my initial disability form. Here's what I learned from my experience: **The reality of EDD mail processing:** - Even with certified delivery, it can take 2-4 weeks for documents to actually get scanned into your file - They receive thousands of pieces of mail daily and are chronically understaffed - Your document is likely sitting in a processing queue somewhere, not lost **What helped me speed things up:** 1. **Call at exactly 8:00 AM** - I had much better luck getting through to someone who could actually help rather than just tell me to wait 2. **Emphasize financial hardship** - When I explained I was behind on rent and had proof of delivery from weeks prior, the rep was able to flag my file for priority processing 3. **Assembly member contact** - This was huge! I called my local assembly member's office and they have EDD liaisons who can expedite cases. Mine was resolved within days after they got involved. **For your doctor:** Even if she won't fax, ask if she can call the EDD physician line directly to confirm the correction was submitted. Sometimes a quick call from the doctor can help locate "missing" paperwork. You're at day 10, so you're still within the normal (frustrating) processing window. Don't panic yet, but definitely start working those alternative channels! The certified mail receipt is your proof that you did everything right. Hang in there! 💙

Emma, thank you so much for this detailed and reassuring response! It really helps to hear from someone who went through the exact same situation and came out the other side. Your timeline gives me hope - I'm trying not to panic but it's hard when you're watching your savings dwindle. I'm definitely going to try the 8 AM calling strategy tomorrow and look up my assembly member's contact info. I had no idea they could help with EDD issues! When you contacted your assembly member's office, did you call or email them first? And do you remember roughly how quickly they responded? The part about emphasizing financial hardship is really helpful too. I've been trying to stay calm on calls but maybe I need to be more direct about how urgent this situation is becoming. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience - it means the world when you're feeling overwhelmed by this whole process! 🙏

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this nightmare! I just went through something very similar and wanted to share what finally worked for me. My doctor also made a date error on my disability form, and after mailing the correction via certified mail, it took 19 days from delivery for it to actually show up in my account. The stress was unbearable - especially when you can prove they physically have it but it's just sitting in some processing limbo. Here's what I wish I had known from day one: **What finally worked:** 1. **Assembly member intervention** - This was the game changer! I called my local assembly member's office (you can find yours on the CA legislature website) and explained the situation. They have dedicated EDD liaisons and got my documents processed within 48 hours of contacting them. 2. **Early morning calls with specific language** - When I called at 8:00 AM sharp and said "I need to speak to someone about expediting processing for financial hardship - I have certified mail proof of delivery from [date]", I got transferred to someone who could actually help. 3. **Doctor follow-up** - Even though my doctor initially refused to do anything but mail, when I explained the processing delays were causing financial crisis, she was willing to call EDD's physician line to confirm the correction was submitted. You're at 10 days, so you're still in the "normal" (but awful) processing window. Don't lose hope! The certified mail receipt proves you did everything right. I know it feels hopeless right now, but there are people who can help move this along faster. Hang in there - you're going to get through this! 💪
