EDD Error E311: Info Mismatch After Name Change - Help!

Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my unemployment claim registration. I keep getting this error message saying the information I provided doesn't match EDD records (Error E311). I recently got married and changed my last name, could that be causing the issue? Has anyone else dealt with this before? Any advice on how to fix it?

Ugh, the EDD system is such a nightmare! 🤦‍♀️ I had a similar issue when I moved and changed my address. It took forever to get it sorted out. Have you tried calling them directly? Be prepared to wait on hold for hours tho...

Calling them is useless. I tried for weeks and couldnt get through. its like they dont want us to get help!

I feel ya. The hold times are insane. I once waited 4 hours only to get disconnected right when someone picked up. 😭

Yeah, I've been trying to call but no luck so far. It's so frustrating!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Are you sure its legit?

Yeah, I was skeptical at first too, but it really worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

20 bucks tho? Thats kinda steep when were already struggling financially...

I get it, but for me it was worth it to finally get my issue resolved. Time is money, ya know?

The name change is definitely the issue here. You need to update your info with EDD asap. Here's what you should do: 1. Gather all your documents: marriage certificate, new ID, social security card with your new name. 2. Fill out the DE 1101 form (Change of Name or Address). You can find it on the EDD website. 3. Mail the form along with copies of your documents to the EDD office. 4. Follow up with a phone call after a week or so to make sure they received everything. 5. Be patient - it might take a few weeks for the system to update. In the meantime, keep trying to file your claim using your old name. Sometimes that works until the update goes through. Good luck!

Thank you so much for this detailed info! I'll definitely follow these steps. Really appreciate it! 🙏

This is great advice. I wish I had known this when I got married last year. Would've saved me so much hassle!

I swear, dealing with EDD is harder than my actual job 🙄 The whole system needs an overhaul!

Preach! 🙌 Its like they're stuck in the stone age or smthn

Pro tip: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every email. You never know when you'll need to prove you've been trying to resolve this. Cover your bases!

That's a great idea, thanks! I'll start keeping a log of all my attempts.

I went through the exact same thing when I changed my name after getting married! The E311 error is super common with name changes. Here's what worked for me: I had to visit the local EDD office in person with my marriage certificate, updated driver's license, and Social Security card. They were able to update my records on the spot and clear the error. It's a pain, but way faster than trying to do it by mail or phone. Also, bring a copy of your old ID if you still have it - that helped them verify my identity. The whole process took about 30 minutes once I got to the front desk. Hope this helps!

I'm dealing with something similar right now! I changed my name after getting divorced and the EDD system is giving me all sorts of headaches. The suggestions here are really helpful - I didn't know about the DE 1101 form. One thing I learned from my experience is to also check if your employer has the updated info on file. Sometimes the mismatch happens because your W-2s or wage records still have your old name. You might need to contact HR to make sure they update their records too. It's such a hassle but necessary for everything to sync up properly. Good luck with getting it sorted out!

That's a really good point about checking with HR! I hadn't thought about the W-2s and wage records potentially still having my old name. That could definitely be causing part of the mismatch. I'll reach out to my former employer's HR department to make sure they have my updated information on file. Thanks for sharing your experience - it's helpful to know I'm not alone in dealing with this post-name-change nightmare! 😅

I had this exact same issue! The name change after marriage definitely causes the E311 error. What finally worked for me was updating my info with Social Security Administration first, then waiting about 2-3 weeks before trying to register with EDD again. Apparently their system pulls from SSA records, so if those aren't updated first, you'll keep getting the mismatch error. Also make sure your bank account info matches your new name if you're doing direct deposit. The whole process is super annoying but you'll get through it! 💪

Oh wow, I didn't realize the SSA update had to come first! That explains why I've been having so much trouble. I updated my name with EDD right after getting married but never thought about doing SSA first. No wonder their systems aren't syncing up. I'll definitely get that sorted out before trying again. Thanks for the tip about the bank account info too - I completely forgot about making sure that matches as well! 🤦‍♀️

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Just got married last month and changed my name, and I've been getting that E311 error constantly. Reading through all these responses is super helpful - I had no idea there were so many steps involved. It sounds like I need to get my SSA records updated first, then do the DE 1101 form, AND make sure my employer has everything updated too. This is way more complicated than I expected! Has anyone had success just waiting it out, or do you really need to be proactive about updating everything manually? I'm hoping there's a way to avoid the whole runaround but it doesn't sound like it 😩

Unfortunately you really do need to be proactive about it - I tried waiting it out for about 2 months and the error never cleared on its own. The systems just don't automatically sync up after name changes. I know it seems like a lot of steps but trust me, it's better to just bite the bullet and do all the updates now rather than deal with months of frustration. Start with SSA first like Julia mentioned, then work your way through the other agencies. I made a checklist and knocked them out one by one - SSA, EDD, DMV, bank, employer, etc. It took about a month total but everything finally synced up properly. You got this! 💪

I went through this exact same situation when I got married 6 months ago! The E311 error is so frustrating but totally fixable. Here's what I learned: you HAVE to update your info in the right order or it won't work. First - Social Security Administration (this is crucial!), then wait 2-3 weeks, then EDD. I also had to update my info with my previous employer's payroll department because my W-2 still had my maiden name. The whole process took about a month but once everything was synced up, the error disappeared. Don't try to skip steps or do them out of order - I learned that the hard way! Also keep copies of EVERYTHING you submit. The paperwork trail will save you if anything gets lost in their system. Hang in there, you'll get through this! 🤗
