EDD Disability Claim: Part A Received, Medical Cert Pending - What Now?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my disability claim. I sent in all my documents to open the claim, and I got confirmation that they received Part A. The thing is, my medical certification is still pending, and that's the last update I've gotten. I'm starting to get worried and I'm not sure what to do next. Has anyone been through this before? Any advice on how to follow up or what I should be asking about?

Ugh, been there done that. The waiting game with EDD is the worst! π Have you tried calling them? Sometimes that's the only way to get a real update.

Pro tip: call right when they open. I mean like, the second they open. Set an alarm and everything. It's annoying but it works

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? That's highway robbery! The government should make it easier to reach them without having to pay extra π‘

I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Sometimes you gotta spend money to save time π€·ββοΈ

How long did it take for them to get you connected?

It took about an hour and a half, but I just went about my day and they called me when an agent was on the line. Way better than being stuck to my phone all day

Here's what you need to do: 1. Check your online account daily for updates 2. If no movement after a week, start calling 3. Be prepared with all your info - claim number, dates, doctor info, etc. 4. Ask specifically about the status of your medical certification 5. If they say it's still processing, ask for an estimated timeline 6. Get the name of who you spoke to and a reference number for the call Stay on top of it and don't let them forget about you! Good luck!

This is solid advice. I'd add: keep a log of all your calls and interactions. It can help if you need to escalate later.

Quick question - did your doctor submit the medical certification electronically or by mail? Electronic is usually faster.

You know, I'm not sure. I'll have to check with my doctor's office. Thanks for the tip!

Unpopular opinion: sometimes it's worth hiring a disability lawyer. Yeah, they take a cut, but they know how to navigate the system and can speed things up.

idk man, lawyers are expensive af. might be overkill for a simple pending status

Anyone else notice that EDD seems to move slower during certain times of the year? Like around holidays or end of fiscal year? Might explain the delay

Pro tip: if you can't get through on the main line, try calling some of the other EDD numbers (like the employer line) and ask to be transferred. Sometimes works like a charm π
