have u tried faxing them? I know it sounds old school but it worked for me when nothing else did lol
Ugh, maternity leave issues are the WORST. You're already dealing with a newborn and then you have to fight for your money too? Sending you strength, mama! šŖš¶
Thank you! It really is a lot to deal with. Appreciate the support! ā¤ļø

Have you checked your spam folder? I know it sounds dumb, but I missed an important EDD email because it went to spam. Just a thought!
Plot twist: the EDD is actually run by a bunch of sloths š¦„ That's why everything takes foreverrrrr
LOL š This explains everything!
6M
Hey now, don't insult sloths like that. They're way more efficient than EDD!

PSA: Always, ALWAYS keep physical copies of everything you submit to EDD. Their system is about as reliable as a chocolate teapot. š«ā
šÆ THIS. I learned this the hard way. Now I have a whole folder dedicated to EDD paperwork.

Hey OP, any updates? Were you able to get through to someone?
Not yet. Been trying to call but no luck getting through. Might try that calling service someone mentioned above.
6M
Here's what I've learned after dealing with this for months: 1. Keep copies of EVERYTHING you send them. 2. Use certified mail if you're sending physical documents. 3. Check your online account daily for updates. 4. If you call, be prepared to wait for hours. 5. Be polite but persistent with the reps. 6. If one rep can't help, politely ask to speak with a supervisor. 7. Document every interaction - date, time, who you spoke with. 8. If all else fails, contact your local state representative's office. They can sometimes intervene on your behalf. Hang in there, OP. It's a frustrating process, but you'll get through it eventually!
Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start keeping better records of everything.

This should be pinned to the top of the subreddit. So helpful!

Ugh, I feel your pain. I've been in the same boat for weeks now. It's like they have a black hole where all our paperwork goes to die. š³ļø
Guys, lets not be so negative. The system is overwhelmed rn. We gotta be patient
6M
@profile 3 Patient? I've been 'patient' for 3 months now. My landlord isn't gonna accept 'patience' as rent payment š

I actually found a way to get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ
I get the skepticism, but I swear it worked for me. The $20 was worth it to finally get my issue resolved. Just sharing what helped me!
6M
Thanks for sharing! I might give this a try. I'm desperate at this point lol

have u tried faxing them? i know it sounds crazy but i got a response within 2 days when i faxed my issue
Faxing? What year is it? 1995? š

I've been dealing with EDD for months now and let me tell you, it's a nightmare. Here's what I've learned: ā¢ Always have more documentation than you think you need ā¢ Keep a log of every call, including date, time, and who you spoke to ā¢ Be persistent - sometimes you have to call multiple days in a row ā¢ Check your spam folder regularly for emails from EDD ā¢ If possible, use their online portal for updates and submissions Hang in there, OP. It's a frustrating process, but don't give up!
This is gold šÆ Wish I had known all this when I started my claim!
7M
The spam folder tip is crucial. I missed an important message and it delayed my claim by weeks š

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. I got through in like 15 minutes doing that. Also, have you checked if you can submit the application online? Might save you some headache.
Not to be that person, but are you sure you qualified for disability insurance? The requirements can be pretty strict.
Yeah, I'm sure. My doctor filled out all the necessary paperwork and I've been paying into SDI for years. That's why this is so frustrating!
6M
Gotcha, just wanted to check. That does sound super frustrating then. Hope you get it sorted soon!
6M
Have you checked if there are any new requirements or changes to the unemployment program? They sometimes update things without making it super obvious. Might be worth looking into.
Good point! I heard they recently changed some rules about job search requirements. OP, make sure you're up to date on that stuff.
6M
lol welcome to the wonderful world of EDD where nothing makes sense and the rules are made up šš
Anyone know if theres a way to check your claim status online? I'm tired of being on hold for hours š«
Yeah, you can check on the EDD website. Just log in to your account and look for the 'Claim Status' section. Hope that helps!
6M
Pro tip: if you're having trouble getting through on the phone, try calling right when they open in the morning. I always have better luck then!
This! šÆ Also, Wednesdays seem to be less busy for some reason.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help push things along with SDI.

I didn't even know that was an option! How do I find my assembly member?

Just google "find my california assembly member" and enter your address. Their office usually has a form for constituent services. Good luck!
