unpopular opinion: maybe if people stopped trying to game the system, EDD wouldn't be so strict with appeals 🤷♂️
Hey Lena, I'm so sorry you're going through this - the appeals process is incredibly stressful. I went through something similar about 6 months ago and know how overwhelming it can feel. A few things that helped me: 1) Document EVERYTHING - keep records of all calls, emails, and correspondence with dates/times. 2) If you haven't already, request a copy of your complete file from EDD to see exactly what they based their denial on. 3) Consider filing a new appeal if you're still within the deadline - sometimes the second review goes better. Also, don't give up! I know it feels hopeless right now, but I've seen people win on their second or even third try. The system is broken but persistence can pay off. Sending you strength! 💪
Have you checked if there's any system maintenance going on? Sometimes they do updates and it can cause delays in processing.
I went through the same thing a few months ago! Filed my claim on a Tuesday and it didn't show up until the following Monday. What helped me was logging out completely and clearing my browser cache, then logging back in. Sometimes it's just a display issue on their end. Also, make sure you're checking the right section - I was looking under "Claims" when I should have been checking "Disability Benefits" (they're in different tabs). Don't stress too much, the confirmation number means they have your claim!
anyone else think its crazy that in 2023 were still dealing with physical debit cards? why cant they just do direct deposit like a normal job smh
I'm going through the exact same thing right now! My claim was approved about 2 weeks ago and still nothing. I've been checking my mailbox obsessively every day. It's so stressful when you're depending on that money. From what I've read online, it seems like the timeframe can be anywhere from 1-3 weeks depending on mail delays and processing. Have you tried checking if there's a way to see the status online? I'm thinking of trying that calling service someone mentioned above if I don't hear anything by Friday.
Ugh, the EDD is such a mess. I swear they're understaffed on purpose to discourage people from claiming benefits. It's a broken system.
I totally feel your pain! I've been through the same nightmare trying to reach EDD. What finally worked for me was calling exactly at 8:00 AM when they open - like literally hitting redial at 7:59:59 AM. I also had better luck with the technical support line (1-800-300-5616) rather than the main claims line. Another trick I learned: if you get the busy signal, hang up immediately and call back - don't wait for it to disconnect you. It took me 47 tries one morning, but I finally got through to someone who actually helped. Stay strong and keep trying - you'll get there! 💪

•Deep breaths, my friend. Try some meditation apps, they helped me a ton during my appeal process.

Hey @Yuki Tanaka! I just went through this whole mess a few months ago and honestly, it's not as scary as it seems once you know what to expect. The key thing is to stay organized and don't let them intimidate you. Make sure you have copies of EVERYTHING - your termination paperwork, any emails or texts from your employer, pay stubs, the whole nine yards. When you get to the hearing (which might be over the phone), they'll ask you to tell your side of the story, so practice explaining what happened in a clear, calm way. The judge is usually pretty fair, but they're all about the facts, not emotions. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand something during the process. You got this! 💪
