EDD SDI payment schedule confusion - when will my next disability deposit arrive?
Hey everyone! I'm new to the disability process and trying to figure out the payment schedule. My SDI claim was finally approved on March 12, 2025 after being stuck pending for almost 3 weeks. On March 13, I received a big lump sum payment for all my back pay via direct deposit (covering from mid-February when my disability started). But now I'm confused about when my next payment will arrive. Will it come exactly two weeks later on March 27? Or is there some other schedule I should be aware of? The EDD website just says 'bi-weekly payments' but doesn't give specific dates. I need to plan my bills and don't want to end up short if there's a delay! Has anyone else who started receiving benefits recently know what the actual schedule is? Thanks in advance for any help!

they deposit every 2 weeks from when you GOT approved not from when you FILED the claim... so if your first payment came march 13 the next one should be march 27 like you thought

•Thanks! That's a relief to hear. I was worried there might be some weird gap or delay I wasn't aware of.

Actually, it's a bit more complex than that. EDD SDI payments are based on your certification periods, not always exactly 14 days from your first payment. The initial lump sum payment can throw off the rhythm. Typically, payments should arrive 7-10 days after each certification period ends, but it can vary. Your payment schedule should be visible when you log into your SDI Online account under "View Payment Activity." There should be a section showing your next certification date and expected payment date. That's the most reliable way to know exactly when your next payment will arrive.

•Oh, I didn't realize there was a way to see that in my account! I'll check the View Payment Activity section right now. Thanks for the detailed info!

•This is correct. My payments sometimes came every 12 days and sometimes 16 days apart depending on weekends and how quickly the certification was processed. The SDI Online portal is definitely the best place to check.

When I was on disability last year the payments were SO UNPREDICTABLE!! Sometimes they'd come right on time, then suddenly I'd be waiting an extra week with no explanation. It was really stressful because I had rent due and couldn't get a straight answer from anyone. The EDD phone lines are impossible - I once waited on hold for THREE HOURS and then got disconnected. The whole system is designed to break you down emotionally I swear.

•I had the same experience!! The payment dates were all over the place. My doctor was late submitting one certification and my payment was delayed by almost 2 weeks. No notification or anything, just nothing in my account when I was expecting it. Super stressful.

•I had payment timing issues too, but I finally got through to an EDD SDI rep using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They connect you directly to an actual EDD agent instead of waiting on hold for hours. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd. The agent explained that payment delays usually happen when there's a certification issue or system backlog. Once I understood the pattern, it was easier to plan for potential delays.

•Never heard of that service before but I'll check it out if I need to contact them again! Anything is better than their regular phone system.

One thing nobody mentioned is that your payment timing can also get messed up if your disability claim gets extended. I had a 6-week claim initially but then my doctor extended it for another 8 weeks. When that happened, there was like a 3-day delay in my regular payment schedule while they processed the extension. Just something to keep in mind if your disability period might get extended later!

•That's really good to know. My doctor initially certified me for 8 weeks, but said I might need longer depending on how my recovery goes. I'll make sure to get any extension paperwork submitted early to avoid delays.

Also, make sure you're correctly completing your continued claim certification forms when they're due. Missing a certification deadline can cause payment delays too. The certifications for SDI are different from unemployment - you don't have to certify every two weeks like with UI. Instead, your medical provider needs to submit updates at specified intervals. Be proactive about contacting your doctor's office to make sure they're submitting these forms on time.

•this is confussing because my brother was on unemployment and had to do the bi-weekly thing but I'm on SDI and haven't had to do anything since i got approved... do i need to be filling something out???

•For standard SDI claims, your medical provider submits the continued certifications, not you. However, you should stay in contact with your doctor's office to ensure they're submitting these forms on time. If you're on SDI for pregnancy, the rules are a bit different. It's always a good idea to log into your SDI Online account regularly to check your claim status and ensure everything is proceeding as expected.

UPDATE: I checked my SDI Online account under the Payment Activity section like someone suggested, and I can see my payment schedule now! You all were right that it's not exactly 14 days - my next payment is scheduled for March 26, which is 13 days after my first payment. Thanks everyone for your help! I'll make sure to keep an eye on my account and stay in touch with my doctor about certifications.

One last thing I wanted to add - make sure your bank account info is correct in the system! I had a payment delayed because my bank changed routing numbers and I forgot to update it with EDD. The money got sent back to them and it took almost 3 weeks to sort out. Double-check that under your profile settings just to be safe!

•That's a great tip, thank you! I just checked and my banking info is correct, but I wouldn't have thought to verify that.

•This happened to my sister too! Her credit union merged with another bank and changed all the routing numbers. She didn't realize until her SDI payment bounced back. It's definitely worth checking periodically, especially if you've had any banking changes recently. The EDD website lets you update your direct deposit info pretty easily once you log in.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm actually going through something similar right now - my SDI claim was approved last week and I'm trying to navigate all of this for the first time. It's really helpful to see how others have figured out the payment timing. I had no idea about checking the Payment Activity section in the SDI Online portal - that's going to save me a lot of stress! Also appreciate the tip about keeping in touch with your doctor's office about certifications. The whole system seems overwhelming at first but this thread makes it feel more manageable.

•Welcome to the SDI journey! I'm also pretty new to this whole process and this thread has been incredibly helpful. It's reassuring to know that others have navigated these same confusing waters successfully. The community here really knows their stuff - I've learned more in this one thread than I did from hours of trying to decipher the EDD website. Good luck with your claim and hope your payments come through smoothly!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm in a similar situation - just got approved for SDI two days ago and had no idea what to expect for payment timing. The tip about checking the Payment Activity section in the SDI Online portal is exactly what I needed. I was getting anxious about not knowing when my next payment would come, but now I can just log in and see the schedule. It's crazy how the EDD website doesn't make this information more obvious - you'd think they'd have a clear payment calendar or something. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences, especially about potential delays and staying on top of medical certifications. This community is a lifesaver for navigating the SDI system!

•Totally agree! I wish someone had told me about the Payment Activity section when I first applied - would have saved me so much anxiety about when payments would arrive. The EDD website is definitely not user-friendly for newcomers. One thing I'd add is to bookmark that Payment Activity page because you'll probably want to check it regularly, especially if you're budgeting around your payment dates. Also, don't panic if a payment is a day or two late - I've noticed they sometimes process on different days of the week depending on holidays and weekends. This community has been amazing for getting real answers that you can't find anywhere else!

This is such a helpful thread! I'm completely new to SDI - just submitted my application last week and still waiting for approval. Reading through everyone's experiences here has given me a much better understanding of what to expect once (hopefully) my claim gets approved. The tip about checking the Payment Activity section in the SDI Online portal is something I'll definitely remember. I had no idea that payment timing could be so variable or that medical providers handle the ongoing certifications rather than the claimant. It's reassuring to see that even though the system seems confusing at first, there are ways to track everything once you know where to look. Thanks to everyone for sharing your real-world experiences - this is way more informative than anything I could find on the official EDD website!

•Welcome to the SDI process! I'm also relatively new to this - got approved about a month ago. One thing I wish I had known earlier is to create an account on the SDI Online portal as soon as you submit your application, even before approval. That way you can track the status of your claim and get familiar with the interface. The waiting period for approval can be really stressful, but from what I've seen here, most people do get approved if their medical documentation is solid. Also, make sure your doctor's office knows they'll need to submit ongoing certifications once you're approved - some offices aren't familiar with the SDI process and need a heads up. Good luck with your application!

As someone who's been on SDI for about 6 months now, I can confirm that the Payment Activity section in your SDI Online account is absolutely essential! I check it every few weeks just to stay on top of things. One thing I learned the hard way is that if you ever have to update your medical information or extend your claim, it can temporarily mess with your payment schedule. Also, keep all your payment confirmations - I had to provide them once when there was a discrepancy in my records. The system definitely gets easier to navigate once you know where everything is located, but I agree the EDD website could be way more user-friendly for first-time users. Hang in there - once you get into the rhythm of things, it becomes much more manageable!

•Thanks for sharing your longer-term experience! That's really valuable perspective. I'm definitely going to bookmark that Payment Activity page and get into the habit of checking it regularly. The tip about keeping payment confirmations is smart too - I wouldn't have thought of that but can see how it could be important if there are ever any issues. It's encouraging to hear that it gets more manageable over time, even if there are occasional hiccups with extensions or updates. This whole thread has been such a great crash course in navigating SDI!

•That's really helpful advice about keeping payment confirmations! I'm just starting my SDI journey and hadn't thought about documenting everything, but that makes total sense. Quick question - when you say the payment schedule can get "temporarily messed up" during extensions, how long did those delays typically last for you? I'm trying to prepare mentally and financially for potential hiccups since my doctor already mentioned I might need to extend my initial claim period.

•@4e59addc0d79 That's a great question about extension delays! In my experience, when I had to extend my claim, there was about a 5-7 day delay beyond my normal payment schedule. The key is making sure your doctor submits the extension paperwork well before your current claim period expires - ideally at least a week early. When I was proactive about it the second time, the delay was only 2-3 days. The SDI Online portal will usually show a status like "pending medical review" during extensions, so you'll have some visibility into what's happening. Just budget for potentially being without a payment for up to a week to be safe!

I just wanted to jump in and say how incredibly helpful this entire thread has been! I'm currently waiting for my SDI claim to be processed (submitted 10 days ago) and was getting really anxious about not knowing what to expect with payments once approved. Everyone's detailed explanations about the Payment Activity section, certification processes, and potential delays have given me so much peace of mind. I've already bookmarked this thread and plan to refer back to it once my claim hopefully gets approved. It's amazing how much more useful real community experiences are compared to trying to navigate the official EDD website. Thank you all for taking the time to share your knowledge - this kind of support makes such a difference when you're dealing with disability and all the stress that comes with it!

•I'm so glad this thread is helping you too! I was in the exact same position just a few weeks ago - waiting for approval and completely stressed about the unknown. This community really is a goldmine of practical information that you just can't get anywhere else. One thing I'd suggest is to start getting familiar with the SDI Online portal now while you're waiting, even though your claim isn't approved yet. You can create an account and poke around the interface so you'll know exactly where to find things like the Payment Activity section once you're approved. The 10-day mark is still pretty early in the process, so try not to worry too much about the wait time. Hang in there - sounds like you're being really proactive about preparing for what comes next!

Hey everyone! I'm brand new to SDI and just got approved yesterday after a nerve-wracking 2-week wait. This thread is absolutely incredible - I've learned more about the payment process in the last 10 minutes than I did from hours of searching the EDD website! I had no idea there was a Payment Activity section in the online portal where you can actually see your payment schedule. Just logged in and found it - my first payment should arrive in 3-4 days according to the system. The tip about staying in touch with your doctor's office about ongoing certifications is something I definitely wouldn't have thought of on my own. It's so reassuring to see how many people have successfully navigated this process and are willing to share their experiences. Thank you all for creating such a supportive community - dealing with disability is stressful enough without having to figure out the bureaucracy blindfolded!

•Congratulations on getting approved! That 2-week wait must have been so stressful. I'm actually still waiting for my approval (going on 3 weeks now) and threads like this are keeping me sane. It's such a relief to hear that the Payment Activity section actually gives you real dates - I was worried I'd just be guessing when payments would come. Quick question since you just got approved - did they send you any kind of confirmation email or notification, or did you just have to keep checking your online account? I've been obsessively logging in every day but wasn't sure if I'd get some kind of alert when the decision comes through.
