EDD SDI payment schedule confusion - will my next disability payment notification arrive by Tuesday?

I received my first disability payment on 11/30 and I'm trying to figure out when to expect my next one. The EDD website is super confusing about the payment schedule. I thought they send email notifications about upcoming payments, but I haven't gotten anything yet. If my first payment came on 11/30, should I get the status update email for my next payment by Tuesday? I'm stressing because rent is due soon and I need to know if the money will be there in time. Has anyone else dealt with their payment schedule and know how predictable it is? This is my first time on SDI and I'm completely lost with their system.

it depends if u certificated properly. disability payments come every 2 weeks if ur claim is approved and u do the forms right but sometimes theres delays. check ur account to see if theres any forms u need to fill out

Thanks! I certified as soon as I got the reminder. My account doesn't show any pending forms, just says my claim is active. I'm just nervous because I didn't get any email yet saying when the next payment is coming.

EDD typically processes SDI payments on a bi-weekly schedule, so if your first payment was on 11/30, you should expect the next one around 12/14 (assuming there are no certification issues). However, the notification emails can be inconsistent - sometimes they arrive 2-3 days before the payment, sometimes the same day, and occasionally not at all. The most reliable way to check is to log into your SDI Online account and look at the "Payment Activity" section. It will show your scheduled payments before you receive the email notification. Also, make sure that your doctor has completed any required ongoing certifications if your disability claim is for a longer period. Missing medical certifications are the most common reason for payment delays.

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll check the Payment Activity section. My doctor said she submitted everything, but I'll double check with her office tomorrow just to be sure.

In my experience with SDI this year, their email notifications have been really hit or miss. I've had payments deposit without any email notification at all. The Tuesday timeline seems about right though - I usually see movement on my claim early in the week for payments that hit later that week. One thing I found incredibly helpful was using Claimyr to actually get through to an EDD agent when I was worried about payment timing. Their service helped me get through to a rep in under 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. I was able to confirm exactly when my payment would arrive. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd Really saved me when I needed to know if I could pay my bills on time!

Yes, it absolutely worked for me. I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate after trying for days. The service connected me with an EDD rep who was able to see when my payment was scheduled. Much better than waiting and wondering!

EDD IS THE WORST!!! Their 'system' is just designed to confuse people and delay payments. I was on disability last year and NEVER got notification emails when they said I would. Sometimes payments would just randomly appear in my account with NO WARNING, other times I'd get an email saying payment was issued but then wouldn't see the money for 3-4 days!!! Don't rely on their stupid Tuesday email - it's TOTALLY unreliable!!!

Ugh that's frustrating to hear. Did you find any way to predict when payments would come in? I'm trying to plan for bills and it's stressing me out.

The ONLY thing that worked was checking my account obsessively. Their notification system is GARBAGE. Eventually I figured out my payments usually hit on Thursdays but sometimes Wednesdays. The whole system is designed to make you crazy!!!

When I was on SDI in 2023 for my pregnancy, I noticed they were pretty consistent with payments every two weeks, but the notification emails were super random. Sometimes I'd get them a day before the deposit, sometimes three days after! I started just marking my calendar for every other Friday (that's when mine hit) and ignoring the emails completely. Also, make sure your claim is set up for direct deposit - that speeds things up a lot compared to waiting for a physical check. And double check that your certification period is correct in the system. My friend had her payments delayed because her doc put the wrong end date on her medical certification. Hope that helps a bit with the stress! The first payment cycle is always the most nerve-wracking.

Thank you, that does help! I do have direct deposit set up, so that's good. I think I'm going to just check my account daily and assume the emails aren't reliable. It's definitely stressful waiting for that first regular payment cycle!

UPDATE: Just wanted to thank everyone for the help! I checked my Payment Activity section like suggested and it shows my next payment is scheduled for this Thursday! No email notification yet, but at least now I know it's coming. Such a relief!

That's great news! Now you know to check that section every couple weeks. In my experience, once the payment schedule gets established, it stays pretty consistent unless something changes with your claim.

Yes! I'm definitely going to check that section regularly instead of waiting for emails. Such a relief to have some predictability now.
