SDI Maternity leave payment schedule - when will I see next deposit after initial payment?
So I'm currently out on maternity leave (gave birth June 1st) and I'm confused about the payment schedule for my SDI benefits. I received my first payment for the initial 11 days on July 8th after my waiting period, but according to the EDD rep I spoke with, I won't get paid again until 14 days after that first payment. Today is the 14th day (July 22nd) and I'm checking my account obsessively but nothing's there! Does anyone know if EDD deposits disability payments on specific days of the week? Like do they only process on Sundays or is it exactly 14 days regardless of weekends? I'm trying to budget for baby expenses and my portion of rent is due next week. Getting super anxious about when this money will actually hit my account! Thank you in advance 🙏

They don't usually pay exactly on the 14th day. In my experience with maternity SDI earlier this year, the payment usually showed up 14-16 days after the previous one. If today is your 14th day, I'd expect it tomorrow or the next day. Also, it seems like they process batches of payments, not individual ones on a strict schedule. The system doesn't care if it's a weekend or weekday for calculating the days, but the deposit might not hit your bank until a business day.

•Oh that's good to know! I'll try to be more patient then and check again tomorrow. I'm just so used to regular paycheck schedules that this irregular payment timing is stressing me out with a newborn and all these expenses!

•Thank you! That's interesting - today is Tuesday so maybe I'll see something by end of day? Did yours always come in the morning or sometimes later in the day?

The EDD NEVER pays on time!!! I was on maternity leave in February and they would say one date and then deposit 3-4 days later EVERY SINGLE TIME. Don't count on getting your money when they say you will. And good luck trying to get anyone on the phone if you have questions - I spent HOURS calling every day for a week!!!!

•I've had the same frustrating experience trying to reach EDD about payment delays. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a representative after days of failed attempts. They connected me directly to an agent in about 20 minutes. Saved me so much stress! There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd. Worth checking out if you keep hitting dead ends with the regular phone line.

•That's a good tip! I'll definitely check later tonight. It's so hard to plan when you don't know exactly when money is coming in!

The EDD disability payment schedule typically follows a bi-weekly cycle, but there are several factors that can affect the timing: 1. The 14-day count includes weekends and holidays, but processing might be delayed if the 14th day falls on a non-business day 2. For maternity claims specifically, payments are issued after each certification period 3. The time of day for deposit varies based on your bank's processing schedule 4. The first payment after the waiting period often follows a different timeline than subsequent payments If you're concerned about a delay beyond 16-17 days from your last payment, I recommend checking if your certification was processed correctly. You can verify this on your SDI Online account under "Payment Details." If it shows "Paid" but you haven't received funds, that's a bank processing delay. If it shows "Pending" after 16+ days, you may need to contact EDD directly.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation! I just checked my SDI Online account and it does show "Paid" for this period but with today's date. I'm guessing that means it's been processed today and my bank might not show it until tomorrow. That makes me feel much better!

When I was on disability last yr they always paid me late and one time my payment got lost in their system and I had to file this whole claim form thing to get them to reissue it. took like an extra month to get that money. I hope that doesnt happen to you with a new baby and everything! But yeah dont expect anything on time from them lol

Just to update you - I checked the EDD disability payment calendar for 2025, and while they don't list specific deposit dates (since those vary by individual claim start dates), they do note that processing times can take 1-2 business days after the 14th day of your certification period. Since you're on maternity SDI, your payments should continue automatically without re-certifying until your claim end date. The good news is that if your online account shows "Paid" status, the money is definitely coming. Most banks process EDD deposits early morning, but some can take until end of day.

•UPDATE: The money just hit my account about an hour ago! So it did come on the 14th day but later in the afternoon. Thanks everyone for your help and advice! At least now I know what to expect for future payments.

As a newcomer to this community, I just want to say how incredibly helpful this entire thread has been! I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant and planning to apply for SDI maternity leave soon, so reading through everyone's real experiences with payment timing has been invaluable. @Taylor Chen, congratulations on your baby and thank you for being so detailed about your timeline - it really helps set realistic expectations. The tip about checking the SDI Online account for "Paid" status is something I never would have known to do! It's also reassuring (though frustrating) to hear that delays are normal with EDD. I'll definitely be bookmarking this thread for when I'm in the same situation in a few weeks. This community seems like such a supportive place for navigating these government systems!

•Welcome to the community and best of luck with your upcoming arrival! As another newcomer who's been following this thread closely, I completely agree about how valuable these real-world experiences are. I'm actually dealing with a different disability claim (non-pregnancy related) and even though the circumstances are different, the payment timing insights from @Taylor Chen and others have been so helpful for understanding what to expect from EDD s'processing. It s'comforting to know there s'a community here where people share honest experiences about the delays and unpredictability, rather than just the official timelines that don t'always match reality. Thanks to everyone for being so open about their journeys - it makes navigating this system feel much less isolating!
