EDD SDI payment schedule after winning appeal - confused about remaining payments
Just won my appeal for disability benefits after being initially denied - what a relief! Got a large lump sum payment on Monday (hallelujah!) but I'm confused about when to expect the remaining payments. My disability claim is set to end August 7th, so I should be getting a few more payments, right? The EDD website shows my claim is now active, but there's no payment schedule I can find. Does anyone know if they'll continue paying bi-weekly or switch to weekly payments? Do they typically deposit on specific days of the week or month? This whole process has been so stressful and I'm trying to budget what's left of my disability period. Thanks for any insight!

Congrats on winning your appeal! EDD generally processes payments every two weeks, but the exact day can vary. Your first payment was the retroactive amount covering from your disability start date until now. Going forward, you should receive payments approximately every two weeks until your claim end date. The UI Online calendar sometimes shows the scheduled payment dates - have you checked there?

•Thanks for the info! I checked UI Online but couldn't find any payment calendar. Does that appear somewhere specific? I'm worried because my rent is due on the 1st and I need to know if I'll have another payment by then.

•That's frustrating! Did you ever have to call them to check on payment status? I've heard their phone lines are impossible to get through.

The payment schedule for EDD SDI can be frustrating to predict. After your initial lump sum payment (which covers all the back pay from when you first filed), you should be on a bi-weekly payment schedule. However, there's an important detail to understand - with SDI, you don't have to certify like with unemployment. The system automatically processes payments every two weeks until your end date (August 7th in your case). Keep in mind that the payment processing date doesn't always mean deposit date. It typically takes 1-2 business days for the money to hit your account after processing. Also, they calculate based on your disability period, not calendar weeks, so your payment dates might not fall on the same days each time. Hope this helps!

•this is 100% accurate! I was so confused about my sdi payments but after the big back pay it's basically every 2 weeks like clockwork until the end date!

Ugh EDD is the WORST with communication!! I won my appeal last year and then they randomly stopped payments for 3 weeks with NO EXPLANATION and I couldn't pay my bills. When I finally got through they said it was a "system flag" whatever that means. Their payment system is a joke. Good luck!!

•Oh no, that sounds terrible! Did you ever figure out what the system flag was about? I'm worried something similar might happen to me.

•Nope! They just said sometimes the system randomly audits claims or something? Then magically fixed it after I spent 4 HOURS trying to reach someone. The whole system is broken!!

When I was on disability last year after my surgery, I had similar confusion about payment dates. If your claim ends August 7th, you should get one more full payment and one partial payment (for the remaining few days). EDD typically processes disability payments on the following schedule: - First payment comes after your claim is approved (your lump sum) - Subsequent payments come every 14 days after that - Final payment comes after your claim end date Since you just got your lump sum payment on Monday, expect your next regular payment around August 1st, then your final partial payment shortly after August 7th. The actual deposit might take 1-2 days after processing.

•That's really helpful, thank you! So I should get something around August 1st? That would be perfect for my rent. When you were on disability, did the payments come consistently on the same day of the week?

•In my experience, it wasn't always the exact same day, but it was usually within 1-2 days of when I expected it. The processing was pretty consistent with the 14-day cycle, but sometimes bank processing would delay it slightly.

I had the EXACT same situation last month! Won my appeal after 3 months of fighting with EDD. The way it worked for me: got the big lump sum payment first, then exactly 2 weeks later got my next payment, then 2 weeks after that got another, then a small final payment for the last few days. The payment dates were May 12, May 26, June 9, and June 15 (my claim ended June 12). If you're worried about timing for bills, I highly recommend using Claimyr to get through to an EDD agent who can tell you the exact payment schedule. I wasted days trying to call before finding them at claimyr.com - they got me through to an agent in under 30 minutes who confirmed my exact payment dates. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd

•Thank you for sharing your experience! It's good to know there's a pretty consistent schedule. I'll check out that service if I can't get through on my own - it would be worth it to know exactly when to expect payments for budgeting.

One more important thing about EDD SDI payments: if you received your lump sum payment via EDD debit card, your future payments will go to the same card unless you set up direct deposit. Many people miss this and keep checking their bank account when the money is actually on the card. You can check your EDD debit card balance online through Bank of America's prepaid card portal.

•Good point! I did get the EDD debit card in the mail and that's where my lump sum was deposited. I'm planning to transfer it to my bank account. Do you know if there are any fees for that?

•There's no fee for transferring the full amount to your bank account. You can set up the transfer through the B of A prepaid card website or their app. Just make sure you transfer the full amount each time to avoid any inactivity fees on leftover balances.

•That's not very reassuring, but I appreciate the honesty! I'll try to maintain some emergency funds just in case.

Just to clarify something important about SDI payments - unlike unemployment benefits, disability benefits are calculated based on your daily benefit amount. If your disability period ends mid-week (like August 7th), your final payment will be prorated for those days only. For example, if your weekly benefit amount is $700 (about $100 per day), and your claim ends on a Wednesday, your final payment would be about $300 for those three days. Make sure you budget accordingly for that final partial payment.

•That's really good to know, thank you! I hadn't considered that the final payment would be prorated. I'll make sure to factor that into my budget for August.

Congratulations on winning your appeal! That's such a huge relief after dealing with EDD's bureaucracy. Based on my experience and what I've seen others go through, here's what you can typically expect: Your payment schedule should be every 14 days from when you received that lump sum payment. So if you got paid Monday, your next payment would likely be around two weeks from then. Since your claim ends August 7th, you should receive 2-3 more payments depending on exactly when your disability period started. One thing to keep in mind - EDD processes payments on business days, so if your 14-day cycle falls on a weekend or holiday, it might be delayed by a day or two. Also, make sure to keep checking both your bank account AND your EDD debit card (if you have one) since sometimes payments go to whichever method was used for the lump sum. The lack of clear payment schedules on their website is frustrating, but the bi-weekly pattern is pretty consistent once you're in the system. If you're really concerned about timing for bills, you might want to call EDD directly to confirm your specific payment dates - though I know their phone lines can be a nightmare to get through. Hope this helps ease some of your stress about budgeting the remaining payments!

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you so much! The 14-day cycle explanation makes perfect sense. I'm feeling much more confident about planning my budget now. I'll definitely keep an eye on both my bank account and the EDD card. It's reassuring to hear that the pattern is consistent once you're in the system, even if EDD's communication is terrible. Really appreciate you taking the time to break this down so clearly!

Hey Andre, congrats on winning your appeal! That's such a huge victory after all that stress. I went through something similar last year and can share what worked for me. After my lump sum payment, I got into a pretty reliable bi-weekly pattern - usually within 1-2 days of the expected date. Since your claim ends August 7th and you just got paid Monday, you should expect your next payment around August 4th-5th (give or take a day), which would be perfect timing for your August 1st rent! Then you'd get a final prorated payment for the remaining few days after August 7th. One tip that really helped me: set up notifications through your bank app for any deposits, and also check the EDD debit card balance regularly since sometimes payments go there instead. The uncertainty is nerve-wracking, but once you're in the system post-appeal, it does become more predictable. Hang in there!

•Thanks Cole! That timeline sounds perfect - having a payment around August 4th-5th would be ideal for rent. I really appreciate the tip about setting up bank notifications, that's smart. It's so reassuring to hear from someone who went through the same thing. The whole appeal process was exhausting but this community has been amazing with helpful advice. I'm definitely going to monitor both my bank account and the EDD card closely. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience!

Hey Andre, huge congratulations on winning your appeal! That's such a relief after dealing with EDD's maze of bureaucracy. From what I've experienced and seen in this community, you should be on a pretty predictable bi-weekly schedule now. Since you got your lump sum on Monday, expect your next regular payment around two weeks from then - which should work out perfectly for your August rent timing. One thing that really helped me track everything was keeping a simple calendar note of when each payment hit. EDD processes on business days, so if your 14-day cycle lands on a weekend, it might shift by a day or two. Also double-check both your bank account AND the EDD debit card since they sometimes switch between payment methods without notice. Since your claim ends August 7th, you should get at least one more full bi-weekly payment, plus a final prorated payment for those last few days. The system actually becomes pretty reliable once you're past the initial appeal chaos - it's just their communication that's terrible! You've got this!

•Thanks Dylan! This is exactly the kind of reassurance I needed. Keeping a calendar note is such a good idea - I'm definitely going to start tracking the payment dates so I can see the pattern develop. It's good to know that the system becomes more reliable after the appeal chaos, even if their communication is awful. Really appreciate everyone in this community sharing their experiences - it makes navigating this whole process so much less stressful!
