EDD SDI payment schedule confusion - received first payment but second is delayed
Started my disability claim on January 9th, 2025 after hernia surgery. Got my first payment for Jan 16-29 period (after the 7 day waiting period), but nothing since then. It's been almost 3 weeks since that first payment hit my account. My doctor submitted all certification forms on time through SDI Online. Is there a specific schedule for when these payments get processed? The EDD website says biweekly payments but doesn't give exact timing. My rent is due next week and I'm starting to get worried. Has anyone experienced delays between their first and second disability payments? How long should I expect to wait before contacting EDD?

Payment processing depends on when your doctor certifies each period. EDD typically processes payments within 7-10 days after certification is received for each period. Have you checked your SDI Online account to see if there are any messages or claim status updates? They might be waiting on something specific.

•Thanks for responding! I checked my account yesterday and it just shows 'claim established' with my benefit amount. No pending messages or action items. My doctor's office confirmed they submitted everything for the second period already. Should I try calling them?

UGH the SAME THING happened to me last month!!! My first payment came on time but then NOTHING for almost 3 weeks. I called them like 30 TIMES before getting through. Turns out they had some "system flag" on my account that needed manual review even though everything was submitted correctly. Absolutely ridiculous how they don't even notify you when there's a problem. The EDD system is BROKEN!!

In my experience with SDI, the first payment usually comes through smoothly, but subsequent payments can get held up in their automated review system. I recommend checking three things: 1. Verify your doctor submitted the continuing certification (they sometimes forget) 2. Log into SDI Online and check under "View Payment Activity" not just the main dashboard 3. If nothing shows pending there, you definitely need to call For reference, my payments always arrived about 10 days after each certification period ended, like clockwork. Anything longer than that usually means something needs attention.

•Thank you for the detailed response! I checked the payment activity section and it only shows that first payment. My doctor definitely submitted everything - I spoke with their disability coordinator yesterday who confirmed both submissions went through. Sounds like I need to call, but I'm dreading the hold times.

check if ur bank info is correct in ur edd account. my cousin had this happen and it was cuz he typed his account # wrong when he first applied. they tried to deposit the $$ but it bounced back. took him forever to fix it

•That's a good point! I just double-checked and my account info is correct - plus they successfully sent the first payment to this same account, so I don't think that's the issue. But thanks for the suggestion!

I had to wait almost a month between my first and second payment for my pregnancy disability. Turns out there was some random quarterly review thing they do that slowed everything down. The most frustrating part was that no one told me this was happening! It eventually came through though.

When this happened to me, I spent days trying to reach someone at EDD with no luck. I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an EDD representative in about 20 minutes. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd that shows how it works. The rep was able to see that my second certification had a technical issue that needed to be manually cleared. Once they fixed it, my payment was processed that same day. Might be worth trying if you can't get through on your own.

•Is that service legit? I've been hesitant to try those call services since EDD has so much of my personal info already.

•It worked for me! They just connect you to EDD faster - you still talk directly with the actual EDD representatives. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for days on my own.

I recommend calling EDD as soon as possible. This is a common issue and usually there's a simple explanation. Some possibilities: 1. Your certification period may not align with when you expect - double check the exact dates 2. Your doctor might have indicated a return-to-work date that's causing confusion 3. There could be a system flag requiring manual review But you won't know until you speak with someone. Try calling right when they open at 8:00 AM for the best chance of getting through.

•Thanks for the advice! I tried calling at 8:00 AM sharp today but still couldn't get through - just kept getting the automated message about high call volumes. I'll keep trying though. I'm going to triple check with my doctor about any return-to-work dates they might have entered incorrectly.

•RIGHT?? And they never explain ANYTHING. We're just supposed to wait around broke while they take their sweet time. The whole system needs to be rebuilt from scratch!

UPDATE: Finally got through to EDD this morning! Turns out there was a discrepancy between the dates my doctor entered and my original claim dates. The rep fixed it right away and said my payment should process in the next 24-48 hours. Thanks everyone for your suggestions and support!

•Great to hear! This is exactly why speaking with a representative is so important - these small discrepancies happen all the time but can only be fixed by someone with access to the system. Hope your recovery continues to go well!

•I ended up using that Claimyr service that someone mentioned above. Felt a little weird paying to get through but after a week of trying on my own, it was worth it. Got connected to a real person in about 15 minutes.

So glad you got it resolved! This is such a common issue with EDD - small date discrepancies between what doctors submit and the original claim can cause major delays. For anyone else dealing with this, it's worth asking your doctor's office to double-check the exact dates they're certifying against your original claim dates. Sometimes they use the wrong start date or accidentally overlap periods. It's frustrating that these technical glitches can hold up payments for weeks when people are already dealing with medical issues and financial stress.

•This is so helpful to know! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - my first payment came through but I'm waiting on my second. I hadn't thought to check if there might be date discrepancies between what my doctor submitted and my original claim. Going to call my doctor's office tomorrow to verify they have the right dates. It's really frustrating how these small technical issues can cause such big problems when you're already stressed about being out of work and medical bills piling up.

This thread is super helpful! I'm going through almost the exact same situation - got my first SDI payment but now waiting on the second one. Reading through everyone's experiences, it sounds like date discrepancies between what doctors submit and the original claim are really common. I'm definitely going to call my doctor's office tomorrow to make sure they have the right certification dates. It's crazy how these small technical issues can cause weeks of delays when people are already dealing with medical recovery and financial stress. Thanks for sharing your update about getting it resolved - gives me hope that mine will get sorted out too!

•I'm in a similar boat too! Just submitted my first certification last week and already worried about potential delays based on what I'm reading here. It's reassuring to see that most of these issues seem to have solutions once you can actually get through to someone at EDD. The date discrepancy thing seems to be a really common culprit. I'm going to be proactive and call my doctor's office this week to make sure they have all the right dates from my original claim before they submit anything. Thanks to everyone sharing their experiences - it really helps to know we're not alone in dealing with these frustrating system glitches!

This entire thread has been incredibly eye-opening! I'm currently on week 3 of waiting for my second SDI payment after a back surgery, and reading everyone's experiences makes me feel less alone in this frustrating process. The date discrepancy issue that Danielle discovered seems to be way more common than it should be. It's honestly ridiculous that EDD's system can't automatically flag these mismatches before they cause weeks of payment delays. I'm definitely going to call my doctor's office first thing Monday to verify they have my exact claim dates correct before submitting any more certifications. For anyone else dealing with this - it sounds like being proactive about checking those dates with your medical provider could save a lot of headaches down the road. Thanks to everyone for sharing your stories and solutions!
