CalWORKs Cash Aid missing this month? RCA payment not received for June 2025

Has anyone else not gotten their Cash Aid deposit for June? I'm in the Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) program and should have received my payment yesterday according to the usual schedule, but nothing has shown up in my account yet. I'm really starting to panic because my rent is due in 3 days and I absolutely NEED this money. Called the customer service line like 5 times already but keep getting disconnected after waiting 40+ minutes. This has never happened before in the 7 months I've been receiving benefits. Is anyone else experiencing delays with their June payments or is it just me? Should I go to the county office in person tomorrow instead of trying to call again?

This happened for several RCA and CalWORKs recipients last month too. There was a system update that caused payment delays for about 25% of recipients. My payment came 3 days late with no explanation. Have you checked BenefitsCal to see if there's any notice about your case? Sometimes they post updates there before they actually tell you anything. Also, check if you submitted your SAR7 on time - if that was due recently and you were late, they might have put your case on hold.

Thanks for responding! I checked BenefitsCal and don't see any notices. My SAR7 isn't due until next month so it can't be that. Do you think I should wait a few more days before panicking? My landlord is NOT understanding about late payments...

That makes me feel slightly better that I'm not the only one, but it's still so stressful. Have you tried calling the main number instead of your worker directly?

I work with several RCA participants, and there's currently a verification issue affecting many RCA recipients. The system is requiring additional documentation for some cases, but they're not consistently sending out the notices. You should check if your USCIS documentation or I-94 needs updating in their system - that's causing payment holds for a lot of people right now. If you're approaching your 8-month mark in the RCA program, that could be triggering a review since RCA is typically limited to 8 months. I would definitely go in person if possible - RCA issues are harder to resolve over the phone since they're handled differently than regular CalWORKs.

Oh wow, I AM approaching my 8-month mark next month. That could definitely be it. I didn't receive any notice about needing to update documentation though. Is there a specific form I should bring with me if I go in person?

I had this same thing happen but with my regular CalWORKs payment last December! So annoying. Turned out someone in my household had reported income that triggered a review but they never contacted me about it. The most frustrating part was no one could tell me anything on the phone and I had to physically go to the office and wait FOUR HOURS to talk to someone. When I finally did the worker was like "oh yeah we needed this form" - like why couldn't anyone just tell me that??

This is unfortunately very common. The verification process can trigger payment holds, but the notification system doesn't always work correctly. For RCA recipients specifically, there are also different requirements than regular CalWORKs, which adds another layer of complexity. The 8-month limit is strictly enforced for RCA, unlike the 48-month lifetime limit for CalWORKs which has more flexibility and exemptions.

Have you tried using Claimyr to reach someone? I was dealing with a similar issue last month and couldn't get through on the regular line. A friend told me about this service called Claimyr that calls the county for you and gets you connected to a real person. I was skeptical but I was desperate so I tried it - they got me through to a worker in less than 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE and their website is claimyr.com. Honestly it saved me from missing my rent payment because I was able to get my issue resolved quickly once I actually talked to someone.

I've never heard of that before. I'm willing to try anything at this point if it helps me actually talk to someone. Thanks for sharing!

CHECK YOUR MAIL CAREFULLY!!! I bet you got a discontinuance notice but missed it. They disguise these important notices as regular mail sometimes I swear. I almost got my CalWORKs cut off because they sent me a notice saying I needed to provide additional verification for my child's school enrollment but the envelope looked like junk mail so I almost threw it away without opening it. When benefits suddenly stop, it's almost always because they needed some document and either you missed the notice or they never sent it. Did you move recently or change your address? That could also cause problems with notices.

I haven't moved, but now that you mention it, I've been having some issues with mail delivery in my building. I'll double check with my neighbors to see if anyone accidentally got my mail. Really hope I didn't miss something important!

Dont they transition u from RCA to regular CalWORKs after the 8 months? Thats what happened to my cousin but there was like a 3 week gap between the last RCA payment and the first CalWORKs payment. nobody told her that would happen and she was freaking out too

Not automatically. RCA recipients need to apply separately for CalWORKs if they qualify, and there are different eligibility requirements. That 3-week gap your cousin experienced is very common during the transition because it's treated as a new application rather than a continuation. For anyone approaching their RCA time limit, I strongly recommend applying for CalWORKs at least 30 days before your final RCA payment if you have children or meet other CalWORKs eligibility criteria.

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone! Used that Claimyr service someone mentioned and it actually worked! Got connected to a worker in about 15 minutes. Turns out they DID send me a notice about needing to update my I-94 documentation since I'm reaching the 8-month limit, but it never arrived. The worker said my case is on hold until they receive the updated documentation. I'm going to the office tomorrow morning with all my papers. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions! I'll update again after I go to the office.

Glad you got an answer! Make sure to bring EVERYTHING with you - your I-94, passport, any USCIS documents, plus proof of residence, income verification, bank statements. Better to have too much documentation than not enough. And ask them specifically about the transition process from RCA to CalWORKs if you're eligible - you don't want to have a gap in benefits if you qualify for continuing assistance.

FINAL UPDATE: Went to the office today and got everything resolved! They updated my documentation and said my payment should be processed within 3 business days. The worker also helped me apply for CalWORKs since my RCA is ending after next month. She said there might still be a gap between programs but at least I'm prepared for it now. Thanks again everyone for all your advice!

So happy it worked out for you! The system is so frustrating sometimes but glad you got it fixed before your rent was due!

This is such a helpful thread! I'm also on RCA and approaching my 8-month limit soon, so reading about your experience gives me a heads up about what to expect. I had no idea that the transition to CalWORKs wasn't automatic - I definitely need to start that application process early. The documentation requirements for RCA seem so much more complicated than regular CalWORKs. Has anyone else here had success with applying for CalWORKs before their RCA ended? I'm worried about that gap in benefits that keeps getting mentioned.
