CalWORKs Cash Aid showing as 'pending' for 3 days but still not received after supervisor promised same-day deposit

I've been dealing with a mess trying to get my Cash Aid reinstated. My benefits got cut off last month because I missed turning in some employment verification (my fault, I know). I reapplied right away and had my interview last week. They approved me but said there was a backlog with processing payments. I called yesterday and after waiting forever, I finally spoke to a supervisor who PROMISED my Cash Aid would be deposited by 5pm today or tomorrow morning at the latest. It's now afternoon and I checked my EBT account - only see CalFresh pending, nothing for Cash Aid! I'm freaking out because my rent is due and I already got an extension I can't extend again. Has anyone had their supervisor promise a specific deposit time and it actually happened later? Do Cash Aid and CalFresh sometimes show up separately? Should I call again or just wait until tomorrow? I'm so stressed!

Same thing happened to me 2 months ago. They're always saying "today or tomorrow" but it took 4 days to actually show up. The supervisor just tells u what u want to hear. Check again tomorrow morning, sometimes the system updates overnight.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. Did you keep calling or just wait it out? I can't afford to wait 4 days with my landlord breathing down my neck.

When they say the Cash Aid is approved but pending, there's usually a few things happening behind the scenes. Cash Aid and CalFresh often process separately - you'll see them as different transactions on your EBT account. The supervisor might have approved it in the system, but it takes time for the payment to actually process through the state disbursement system. A few questions that might help clarify your situation: 1. Did you get any written notice confirming your reapplication was approved? 2. Was this a new application or a restoration of benefits within the same certification period? 3. Did you check BenefitsCal to see if it shows as approved there? If the supervisor specifically promised today, I would give them until end of business tomorrow, then call again and ask to speak to that same supervisor. Make sure to document who you spoke with and when.

I got the approval letter in the mail yesterday, so I know I'm approved. This was a restoration since I was only cut off for like 3 weeks. I didn't think to check BenefitsCal - just looked at my EBT card balance. I'll try that now. Thanks for the detailed response!

That makes me feel a little better. Guess I'll try to be patient and check again in the morning.

If you're in a situation where you really need to reach your worker or that supervisor again, I'd recommend trying Claimyr.com - I used it last month when I was in a similar situation with promised benefits not showing up. Instead of waiting on hold for hours, they hold your place in line and call you back when a real person answers. Saved me from taking a whole day off work just to make phone calls. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE But honestly, in my experience, when a supervisor says it's approved and will deposit soon, it usually does happen within 48 hours. The system often updates overnight between 12-2am.

Thanks for the suggestion! I've never heard of Claimyr before. If it's not there by tomorrow afternoon I'll definitely look into it because I can't afford to sit on hold for hours again.

Don't stress too much yet! There's typically a 24-48 hour processing time even after a supervisor approves something. Plus, the EBT system sometimes shows different benefits at different times of day. What I've learned from dealing with Cash Aid for 3 years is that supervisors often say what will make you happy in the moment, but they know the system takes time. FYI - If your rent is truly at risk, look into the CalWORKs Housing Support Program or Emergency Assistance program. You might qualify for additional help with your housing situation while waiting for your regular benefits to start again.

Thank you! I didn't know about those housing programs. My landlord has been understanding before but I've used up all his patience I think. If my benefits don't come through tomorrow I'll ask about emergency assistance.

THEY LIE ALL THE TIME!!!! I had 3 different workers tell me 3 different days my money would be there. Then when I finally got mad enough they "found" some form I supposedly didn't turn in (I DID). The whole system is designed to make us give up. Don't believe anything they say about timing until you see the $$$ in your account!!!!

While I understand your frustration, this isn't always the case. Delays in processing are common, but usually not intentional. Cash Aid has to go through several verification steps even after approval, especially for restorations after discontinuance. The supervisors often give their best estimate based on normal processing times, but system delays happen.

Maybe for some people but my county is TERRIBLE. They lost my documents 3 times in 2 months. Had to resubmit everything multiple times! Sorry but after 4 years dealing with them I know when I'm being given the runaround

I'm curious - did you check if you have any WTW (Welfare to Work) requirements that need to be cleared before they release the payment? Sometimes if you're being restored after a discontinuance, they verify your WTW status before releasing funds. That could explain why CalFresh is pending but Cash Aid isn't showing yet.

I do have WTW requirements, but my worker said those were all current. I've been submitting my job search logs every week even when my case was closed because I was afraid this might happen. But that's a good point - maybe there's something holding it up related to that.

UPDATE: My Cash Aid just posted to my account this morning! The supervisor was right about the overnight deposit timing. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. For anyone dealing with this in the future - they really do seem to process Cash Aid and CalFresh separately, and the system does update overnight.

That's great news! Thanks for coming back to update. It's helpful for others to see the timeline. Yes, CalWORKs (Cash Aid) and CalFresh operate on somewhat different systems despite both showing on your EBT card. Glad everything worked out for you!

So glad it worked out! This is a good reminder for everyone that sometimes we just need to be patient with the system, even when it's incredibly stressful to wait.

Congratulations on getting your benefits! This is such a helpful thread for others going through the same situation. I'm dealing with a similar Cash Aid restoration right now (day 2 of waiting) and this gives me hope that the overnight processing really does happen. It's so stressful when you're depending on these benefits and the timing feels uncertain. Thanks for taking the time to update everyone - it really helps to know the supervisor's timeline was actually accurate in your case!

I'm so glad this thread helped you! I remember being in your exact position just a few days ago - that waiting period is absolutely nerve-wracking when you're counting on the money. Hang in there, and definitely check your account first thing tomorrow morning. The overnight processing seems to be pretty consistent based on what everyone shared here. Fingers crossed your benefits come through soon!

This whole thread is so reassuring! I'm currently on day 3 of waiting for my Cash Aid restoration after a similar situation (missed paperwork, had to reapply). My caseworker told me it would be 1-2 business days but here I am still waiting. Reading everyone's experiences helps me understand this is totally normal. It's frustrating how the system works but at least now I know Cash Aid and CalFresh really do process separately. Going to check my account tomorrow morning and try to be patient. Thanks Oliver for sharing your experience and coming back with the update - that's exactly what people in this situation need to hear!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Day 2 of waiting for my Cash Aid after they said it was approved. This thread has been a lifesaver - I was starting to panic thinking something was wrong with my case. It's so helpful to see that multiple people experienced the same delays and that the overnight processing is a real thing. Thanks Rita for mentioning the separate processing for Cash Aid and CalFresh - I didn't realize they were different systems. Definitely going to check my account tomorrow morning too and try to stay patient!

Reading through this thread is exactly what I needed right now! I'm on day 1 of waiting for my Cash Aid restoration and already getting anxious about the timing. It's so helpful to see Oliver's update that it actually came through overnight like the supervisor promised. The information about Cash Aid and CalFresh processing separately is really valuable - I had no idea they were on different systems. This community is amazing for sharing real experiences instead of just the official "it takes 1-3 business days" responses we get from the office. Definitely bookmarking this thread for anyone else I know going through benefit restorations!

I'm so glad this thread is helping people in similar situations! When I was waiting those few days, I felt so alone and stressed about it. It really does make a difference to know that other people have gone through the exact same thing and that there's a pattern to how these restorations work. The overnight processing thing seems to be pretty consistent based on everyone's experiences here. Definitely keep checking in the morning - that seems to be when most people see their deposits appear. Hope your benefits come through quickly!

This thread is incredibly helpful for anyone dealing with CalWORKs restoration delays! I went through something similar about 6 months ago and the waiting period was absolutely brutal - especially when you're counting on that money for essential expenses like rent. What I learned from my experience is that even when supervisors give you specific timeframes, the backend processing systems often have their own schedule. In my case, I was told "by end of business today" and it actually showed up 2 days later at around 3am. The overnight batch processing seems to be when most deposits actually hit accounts. One thing that helped me was setting up account alerts so I'd get a text notification as soon as any deposit posted - saved me from obsessively checking my balance every hour. It's also worth noting that if you're ever in this situation again and facing immediate housing issues, most counties have emergency assistance programs that can help with one-time rent payments while you're waiting for regular benefits to resume. Thanks for sharing your experience Oliver - these real-world timelines are so much more valuable than the generic "3-5 business days" responses we usually get!
