USAA: Month-old claim still not approved. Any advice to speed up process?
Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a month-old claim that still hasn't been approved. It's been a while and I'm getting worried. Has anyone else experienced long delays with their claims? Any advice on how to speed up the process or what I should do next? I'm planning to call them soon, but I want to be prepared.

I found a way to solve delayed insurance claim approval, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6wowt2pG_c

Ugh, I feel your pain. I had a claim that took forever to get approved. Make sure you have all your documents ready when you call. They might ask for additional info, so be prepared to email or fax stuff over. Good luck!

•Thanks for the tip! What kind of additional info did they ask you for? I want to make sure I have everything ready.

•They wanted more details about the incident, some medical records, and a statement from my doctor. It was a whole ordeal 🙄 But having it all ready definitely sped things up!

•Same here! They also asked me for photos of the damage and a police report. Better to have too much than not enough, right?

A month isn't too bad tbh. I've been waiting for 3 months now 😠The system is so backed up its ridiculous

•3 months?! That's insane. Have you tried escalating it to a supervisor or something?

•Yeah, I've tried everything. They just keep saying it's 'in process' whatever that means 🙄

Pro tip: I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://www.claimyr.com

•Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? $20 seems steep just to make a call.

•I was skeptical too, but it actually worked for me. Saved me hours of hold time. Worth it if you're desperate to talk to someone.

•Idk man, seems kinda sketchy. Has anyone else tried this?

•It's legit, I promise! I've used it twice now. Sure, $20 isn't cheap, but my time is worth more than sitting on hold for hours.

Here's what you need to do to get your claim approved faster: 1. Gather all relevant documents (police reports, medical records, receipts, etc.) 2. Write a detailed account of the incident 3. Call the claims department early in the morning - they're less busy then 4. Ask for a direct email or fax number to send additional info 5. Follow up every week if you don't hear back 6. If it's taking too long, ask to speak with a supervisor 7. Keep a log of all your communications Stay persistent and don't be afraid to advocate for yourself. The squeaky wheel gets the grease!

•Great advice! I'd add: don't be afraid to mention that you're considering switching insurance providers if they can't resolve this in a timely manner. Sometimes that lights a fire under them 😉

This is why I switched to a different insurance company last year. Couldn't deal with the constant delays and runaround anymore. Good luck OP!

•Which company did you switch to? I'm thinking about jumping ship too...

•I went with Progressive. So far, so good. Their app is pretty decent for checking claim status too.

Plot twist: what if the insurance companies are secretly run by sloths? 🦥 That would explain the speed of their claims process lmao

•LOL 🤣 That actually makes so much sense. Mystery solved!

•Nah, sloths are cute. Insurance companies are more like a bunch of clowns 🤡

Hey OP, what kind of claim is it? Auto, home, health? The process can vary depending on the type.

•It's an auto claim. Had a fender bender last month and still waiting on approval for the repairs.

•Ah gotcha. For auto claims, make sure you've submitted the repair estimates from the body shop. That can sometimes hold things up.

unpopular opinion: sometimes the delay is bcuz they're actually being thorough and making sure everything checks out. patience is key

I'm going through something similar right now - my claim has been pending for about 3 weeks. What I've learned is that calling first thing in the morning (like 8 AM) gets you through faster, and don't be afraid to ask for specifics about what's holding things up. They'll usually tell you if they're waiting on something from you or if it's just in their internal review process. Also, get a claim number and reference it every time you call - it helps them pull up your file quicker. Hope this helps and you get it resolved soon!

•This is really solid advice! I never thought about calling right at 8 AM - that's such a smart tip. I've been calling randomly throughout the day and always getting stuck on hold forever. Definitely going to try the early morning approach and make sure I have my claim number handy. Thanks for sharing what you've learned from your own experience!

Honestly, a month does seem excessive for a straightforward auto claim. I'd definitely call them and ask for a specific timeline - don't let them give you vague answers like "it's processing." Ask exactly what steps are left and when you can expect each one to be completed. Also, if you haven't already, make sure you've submitted everything they need upfront. Sometimes they'll sit on a claim waiting for one document without bothering to tell you. Document everything too - dates, times, who you spoke with. If they keep dragging their feet, mention you're considering filing a complaint with your state's insurance commissioner. That usually gets their attention pretty quick!
