Why did my unemployment not come today - Washington ESD payment missing
I usually get my unemployment payment every Tuesday but nothing showed up in my account today. I filed my weekly claim on Sunday like always and it went through without any errors. My claim status still shows active and I haven't gotten any notices about issues. This is really stressing me out because I have bills due tomorrow. Has anyone else had their Washington ESD payment not show up when it was supposed to? What could cause this to happen?

Check your claim status on the Washington ESD website first. Sometimes there are processing delays or your claim might be under review for some reason. Also make sure you didn't miss any job search requirements.

•I checked and everything looks normal. No alerts or anything. My job search log is up to date too.

•Same thing happened to me last month. Turned out to be a bank holiday that delayed the deposit by one day.

There could be several reasons for payment delays. Washington ESD sometimes holds payments for verification purposes, especially if there's been any change in your circumstances. Did you report any work or income on your last weekly claim?

•No changes at all. I've been filing the same way for weeks. This is the first time it's been late.

•If you need to get through to someone at Washington ESD quickly, I found this service called Claimyr that actually got me connected to an agent. They have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ and the site is claimyr.com. Saved me hours of trying to call.

•Thanks, I might need to try that if this doesn't get resolved soon.

ugh this is my worst nightmare!! I'm always paranoid about my payments being late because I literally live paycheck to paycheck with unemployment. Did you double check that your direct deposit info is still correct?

Ali Anderson
•Yes my bank info is the same. I'm really worried something is wrong with my claim now.

•Don't panic yet. Payment delays happen more often than you'd think. Usually it's just a processing issue that resolves itself within a day or two.

I work in banking and I can tell you that ACH transfers can be delayed for various reasons - bank maintenance, federal holidays, or even high processing volumes. Before assuming it's a Washington ESD issue, call your bank to see if there are any pending deposits.

•That's a good point. I'll call my bank first thing tomorrow morning.

•Yeah my credit union sometimes has delays on government payments. They told me it's because of extra security checks.

Mine was late once because I accidentally put the wrong answer on one of the weekly claim questions. Even though I went back and corrected it, it flagged my claim for review and delayed payment by 3 days.

•I don't think I made any mistakes but I'll go back and check my answers from Sunday.

•That's actually pretty common. The system flags claims automatically if there are any inconsistencies, even minor ones.

WASHINGTON ESD IS SO UNRELIABLE! I've had my payments delayed multiple times for no reason. One time they held my payment for 2 weeks because their system glitched. The whole unemployment system is a mess.

•Two weeks?? That's terrible. I really hope that doesn't happen to me.

•While delays are frustrating, most payment issues get resolved within a few business days. Try not to assume the worst case scenario.

•I agree the system has issues but catastrophizing doesn't help anyone. OP should focus on figuring out what happened.

If you end up needing to call Washington ESD about this, definitely use Claimyr. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked. Got through to an agent in about 20 minutes instead of calling all day and getting nowhere.

•How does that work exactly? Do they just call for you?

•They handle the calling and waiting, then connect you when an agent picks up. Super simple to use.

Check if there's a state holiday or something. Sometimes payments get delayed by a day when there are government holidays that affect processing.

•I don't think there's a holiday this week but I'll double check.

•Martin Luther King Day was last week so that shouldn't affect this week's payments.

This exact same thing happened to my neighbor last month. Her payment was delayed because Washington ESD was updating their payment system. She got her money the next day plus they sent an email explaining the delay.

•I haven't gotten any emails about system updates. I'll check my spam folder just in case.

•Yeah definitely check spam. Sometimes important emails from Washington ESD end up there.

Are you sure you filed your weekly claim correctly? Sometimes if you miss the deadline or don't complete all the questions, it can delay payment.

•I filed it Sunday morning and got the confirmation. I've been doing it the same way for months.

•If you got a confirmation then the claim went through properly. The delay is probably on the payment processing side.

Mine got delayed once because I had a small amount of earnings that week and it triggered some kind of review. Even though I reported it correctly, they still held the payment for verification.

Ali Anderson
•I didn't have any earnings this week so that's not it.

•Sometimes even $0 earnings can trigger reviews if the system thinks something looks unusual. It's weird but it happens.

I would definitely call Washington ESD if your payment doesn't show up by tomorrow. Don't wait too long because if there is an issue, you want to catch it early.

•You're right. I'll give it one more day and then I'll call them or use that Claimyr service someone mentioned.

Just wanted to update everyone - my payment showed up this morning! It was just delayed by one day. Thanks for all the advice and reassurance. I was really panicking for nothing.

•This is exactly why I always keep a small emergency fund even on unemployment. These delays are so common.
