When do I get my unemployment payment from Washington ESD?
Filed my first weekly claim last Sunday and it's been approved but I still haven't gotten any payment. My account shows the claim was processed but no deposit date or anything. I'm really stressed about bills coming up - does anyone know how long Washington ESD usually takes to send the first payment after approval?

Usually takes 2-3 business days after your claim is processed for the direct deposit to hit your account. If you don't have direct deposit set up it could be 5-7 days for a debit card to arrive in the mail.

•I did set up direct deposit when I filed my initial claim. So hopefully it comes through by Wednesday or Thursday then.

•Yeah mine usually hits on Wednesday if I file my weekly claim on Sunday. Pretty consistent timing once you get into the routine.

Make sure you check your payment history on your Washington ESD account. Sometimes there are issues that delay payment that you need to resolve first.

•Just checked and it shows 'Paid' status with today's date. Does that mean it should be in my account already?

•If it shows paid today then it usually processes overnight. Check your bank account tomorrow morning, should be there by then.

I had to wait almost 2 weeks for my first payment because there was an identity verification issue. Try calling Washington ESD to make sure there aren't any holds on your account. I used Claimyr.com to get through - their system helped me reach an actual person without waiting on hold for hours. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Thanks, I'll check that out if my payment doesn't come through by tomorrow. Really don't want to spend hours on hold if there's a problem.

•Claimyr actually worked for me too. I was skeptical at first but it got me connected to someone at Washington ESD in like 15 minutes instead of the usual 2+ hour wait times.

First payments are always nerve wracking! I remember checking my bank account every hour when I was waiting for mine. As long as your claim shows approved and there's no adjudication or other issues, you should get it within a few business days.

•Yeah I keep refreshing my banking app every few hours lol. Good to know this anxiety is normal.

•Haha we've all been there. The waiting for that first payment is the worst part of the whole unemployment process.

Also just FYI - if you're expecting back pay for multiple weeks, those might come as separate deposits over a few days. Don't panic if you only get one week's worth at first.

•Good to know! I was wondering about that since I had a waiting week that got waived.

•Yeah the waiting week payment often comes separately from your regular weekly payment. Usually within the same week though.

Check that you didn't accidentally select paper check instead of direct deposit. I did that my first time filing and had to wait forever for checks in the mail before I realized my mistake.

•Just double-checked and it definitely shows direct deposit with my bank account info. Fingers crossed it comes through tomorrow.

If your weekly claim was approved and processed, payment should follow pretty quickly. Washington ESD has gotten much better about payment timing since the pandemic backlog issues got resolved.

•Agreed, they're way more reliable now. Used to be much more unpredictable timing a couple years ago.

•That's reassuring. I was worried I'd be waiting weeks like some of the horror stories I read online.

Mine always hits Tuesday night/Wednesday morning if I file Sunday. Very consistent. The first one might take an extra day or two while they set up your payment profile.

•Perfect, that gives me a realistic timeline to expect. Thanks everyone for the help!

If you don't see anything by Thursday definitely call to check for any issues. Better to catch problems early than wait and wonder. The Claimyr service I mentioned earlier is really helpful for getting through to someone quickly if needed.

•Second this. I waited too long thinking my payment would just show up and ended up having a verification issue that took weeks to resolve.

•Will definitely call if nothing shows up by Thursday. Thanks for the Claimyr recommendation too.

Just to set expectations - first payments can sometimes be delayed if Washington ESD needs to verify your employment history or wages. Most go through smoothly but occasionally there are hiccups.

•My employment verification already went through when I filed my initial claim so hopefully that's not an issue.

•That's good, sounds like you should be all set then. The hardest part is just waiting for that first one to hit your account.

Also make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even if you haven't gotten your first payment yet. Don't want to create any gaps in your claim.

•Good point, I'll make sure to file this Sunday regardless. Thanks for the reminder.

•Yeah definitely keep filing weekly. Missing a week can create complications even if you're waiting on back payments.

The anxiety of waiting for that first unemployment payment is real. But sounds like your claim is processing normally so you should see money soon!

One more tip - screenshot or save your payment confirmation from your Washington ESD account for your records. Helps if there are ever any questions about payment dates later.

•Great idea, just took a screenshot. Good to have documentation of everything.

•Smart advice. I keep screenshots of all my weekly claim submissions and payment confirmations just in case.

If you set up direct deposit correctly and your claim shows paid, you're in good shape. Washington ESD payments are pretty reliable once they're approved.
