How long to get unemployment check after Washington ESD approval?

My Washington ESD claim was finally approved last week after being in adjudication for almost a month. I've been filing my weekly claims but haven't received any payment yet. How long does it usually take to get your first unemployment check once everything is approved? I'm really stressed about bills piling up and need to know what to expect.

Usually takes 2-3 business days after your weekly claim is processed for the money to hit your account if you have direct deposit set up. If you're getting a debit card it can take up to a week for the first one to arrive in the mail.

I do have direct deposit set up. Does the timing change if you have back payments due from when your claim was in adjudication?

0 coins

Back payments usually come all at once with your regular weekly payment, so same timeline applies.

Check your ESD account online to see if your weekly claims show as 'paid' status. That's when you know the payment is processing. Mine always showed pending for a day or two before switching to paid.

Just checked and it still says 'submitted' not 'paid' yet. Filed it yesterday morning.

Give it another day. The system usually updates overnight.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check on payment delays, I found this service called Claimyr that helped me reach an agent quickly. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Really saved me hours of calling.

How much does something like that cost? I'm already strapped for cash waiting for my benefits.

0 coins

It's worth checking out their site for details. For me it was better than spending all day trying to get through on my own.

0 coins

Sounds sketchy to me. Why would you need to pay someone to make a phone call?

0 coins

FIRST PAYMENTS ALWAYS TAKE FOREVER!!! I waited almost 2 weeks for my first payment even though everything looked approved online. The system is just slow and they don't care that people are struggling.

0 coins

Two weeks?! That's terrifying. Did you eventually get all the back pay though?

0 coins

Yeah I got everything eventually but it was ridiculous how long it took.

Make sure you didn't have any issues with your banking information. Sometimes payments get delayed if there's a problem with the direct deposit setup. You can verify your bank details in your ESD account under payment preferences.

0 coins

Good point, I'll double check that. The routing and account numbers look right but maybe something got entered wrong.

0 coins

This happened to me! Had one digit wrong in my account number and payments were getting rejected. Took forever to figure out.

just got my first payment today, took exactly 3 days from when it showed paid online to when it hit my account. hang in there

0 coins

Thanks, that gives me hope. What day of the week did you file your weekly claim?

0 coins

filed on sunday, showed paid tuesday, money wednesday morning

0 coins

Also remember that your first payment might be for just one week even if you had multiple weeks of adjudication. Sometimes they process the payments separately which can be confusing when you're expecting a larger amount.

0 coins

That would actually explain a lot. I was expecting about 4 weeks worth but maybe they're doing it week by week?

0 coins

Yeah check your payment history online. It should show each week separately if that's what happened.

When I was dealing with payment delays, I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Actually got through to an ESD agent who could explain exactly what was holding up my payment. Turned out there was a job search verification issue I didn't know about.

0 coins

Wait, job search verification? I thought that was automatic if you're using WorkSource.

0 coins

Not always. Sometimes they need additional documentation. The agent was able to tell me exactly what they needed.

0 coins

Good to know about the job search thing. That's definitely something that could hold up payments.

0 coins

Has anyone else noticed that payments seem to process faster if you file your weekly claim early in the week versus later? Or is that just coincidence?

0 coins

i always file sundays and get paid wednesdays like clockwork now

0 coins

I file Fridays and it takes until the following Tuesday usually. Maybe there is something to the timing.

0 coins

Don't panic if it takes longer than expected. The money will come. I know it's stressful when bills are due but ESD eventually pays everything they owe you. Just keep filing your weekly claims on time.

0 coins

Thanks for the reassurance. It's just scary when you're used to a regular paycheck and now everything is uncertain.

0 coins

I totally get it. The uncertainty is the worst part. But once the first payment comes through, the rest usually follow a predictable pattern.

0 coins

Check if there are any alerts or messages in your ESD account that you might have missed. Sometimes there are requests for additional information that can delay payments.

0 coins

Just checked and there's nothing in my alerts section. Account looks clean.

0 coins

Good, that means you're probably just waiting for normal processing time then.

0 coins

this whole system is so confusing, why cant they just tell you exactly when you'll get paid instead of making everyone guess

0 coins

EXACTLY! Other states have better systems that actually communicate with people. Washington's system is stuck in the stone age.

0 coins

It's frustrating but the timing is usually pretty consistent once you get into a routine with it.

0 coins

If you need to talk to someone at ESD about your payment timing, I had good luck with Claimyr when I was in a similar situation. They helped me get through and the agent could see exactly where my payment was in the process.

0 coins

How quickly were you able to get through using that service?

0 coins

Way faster than calling on my own. Usually within an hour or two instead of spending all day trying.

0 coins

Pro tip: if you're really worried about the timing, you can call your bank to see if there are any pending deposits from Washington ESD. Sometimes the money is already on its way but hasn't shown up in your account yet.

0 coins

That's actually really smart. I'll call them tomorrow morning.

0 coins

Yeah, saved me some anxiety when I could see the deposit was pending even though it wasn't available yet.

0 coins

From my experience, if your claim shows as paid online on a Wednesday, you'll usually have the money by Friday at the latest. Weekends can slow things down though.

0 coins

Mine still shows submitted from yesterday. Hoping it updates to paid soon.

0 coins

Give it until tomorrow evening. The system updates pretty slowly.

0 coins

Make sure you're checking the right section of your ESD account. Payment information is under 'Payment History' not 'Claim Status'. I was looking in the wrong place for weeks.

0 coins

Oh wow, I was looking at claim status. Let me check payment history now.

0 coins

Yeah it's not very intuitive. The payment history shows more detailed information about processing.

0 coins

Once you get your first payment, keep track of the pattern. Mine comes every Wednesday like clockwork now, so at least I can plan around it.

0 coins

That's good to know. I'm hoping to get into a predictable routine once this first payment comes through.

0 coins

You will. The first one is always the most stressful because you don't know what to expect.

0 coins

Final update: checked payment history like someone suggested and it shows paid as of this morning! Thanks everyone for the help and advice.

0 coins

Great news! You should see the money in your account within 2-3 business days now.

0 coins

Awesome! See, told you it would work out. Now you know what to expect for future payments.

0 coins

Such a relief. This forum really helped me understand the process better.
