How long after you get approved for unemployment do you get paid Washington ESD?
My Washington ESD claim finally got approved last Tuesday after being in adjudication for almost a month. The website shows my claim is active now but I haven't received any payment yet. I filed my weekly claim on Sunday like I'm supposed to but still nothing in my account. How long does it usually take to get your first payment after approval? I'm getting pretty desperate here - bills are piling up.

It typically takes 2-3 business days after you file your weekly claim for the payment to show up in your account. Since you just got approved Tuesday and filed Sunday, you should see something by Wednesday or Thursday this week.

Make sure you're checking the right account! Washington ESD uses direct deposit so it should go to whatever bank account you set up during the application process.

•Yes I double checked that, same checking account I've had for years

I had the same issue and it turned out I needed to call Washington ESD to verify some information even though my claim showed approved. Took me weeks to get through on the phone though. If you're having trouble reaching them, there's a service called Claimyr that helps you get through to an actual agent - check out claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•How much does that cost? I'm already broke waiting for my unemployment

•It's worth it compared to spending hours trying to call yourself. I wasted so much time on hold before finding them.

Your first payment might be delayed if there are any issues with your bank account setup or if Washington ESD needs additional verification. Check your SecureAccess Washington account to see if there are any alerts or messages waiting for you.

•I checked and don't see any alerts or pending issues. Everything looks normal.

•Sometimes those alerts don't show up right away, keep checking

ugh the waiting is the worst part!! I remember when I was approved it felt like forever but it was only like 3 days

•Yeah I'm trying to be patient but my rent is due next week

Also remember that your first payment might include back pay from when you first filed, so it could be larger than your regular weekly benefit amount. That sometimes causes processing delays.

•Oh that's right, I filed almost 6 weeks ago so there should be back pay. Maybe that's why it's taking longer?

•Exactly, larger payments often take an extra day or two to process through the system.

The Washington ESD system is so slow. They approved me in February and I still had to wait almost a week for my first payment even though I did everything right.

•A week? That seems excessive. Did you call them?

•Yeah I tried calling but could never get through. Finally just showed up on its own.

If it's been more than 5 business days since you filed your weekly claim, definitely call Washington ESD. Something might be wrong with your payment setup.

•It's only been 3 business days so I'll wait a bit longer before panicking

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but sometimes even after approval there can be additional holds placed on your account. Check if your payment status shows 'paid' or 'pending' in your account.

•Where do I check that? I don't see a payment status anywhere

•Log into your account and look under 'Payment Information' or 'Claim Status' - it should show the status of your weekly claims

Make sure you didn't miss any of the job search requirements! If you didn't log your job contacts properly it can delay your payment even after approval.

•I've been tracking everything in the system like I'm supposed to. Three job contacts per week.

•Good, that's the most common reason for payment delays

Is your direct deposit information correct? Sometimes people change banks and forget to update it with Washington ESD.

•Same bank I've had for 5 years, nothing changed there

UPDATE: I ended up using Claimyr again last week for a different issue and they're still working great. Got connected to a Washington ESD agent in under 10 minutes and resolved my problem same day. Definitely recommend if you end up needing to call.

•I might try that if my payment doesn't show up by Friday

•Is it legit though? Seems too good to be true

•Yeah it's legit, they just handle the calling part for you. Check their demo video if you're skeptical.

Payments usually hit between 2-4 AM if you're doing direct deposit. Check your account first thing in the morning.

I work at a bank and we see Washington ESD payments come through on Tuesdays and Wednesdays most often. What day did you file your weekly claim?
0 coins
ApolloJackson
•I filed Sunday, so if Tuesday/Wednesday is normal then maybe today or tomorrow?

Nick Kravitz
•Yes, that timing sounds right. Should be soon!

Don't forget about taxes! Your first payment might look smaller than expected if you elected to have taxes withheld.

ApolloJackson
•I did elect to have taxes taken out, so that makes sense

The system shows pending payments differently than approved claims. Look for 'Payment History' section in your account - it might show more detail about timing.

•Found it! It shows 'Payment Issued' with today's date. Hopefully that means it's coming soon.

•That's a good sign! Usually means it's processing through the banking system now.

Sometimes Washington ESD batches payments and releases them all at once. Could just be waiting for the next batch to process.

ApolloJackson
•That would explain the delay even though everything looks approved

If you're really desperate, some credit unions offer short-term loans against pending unemployment benefits. Might be worth checking if you bank with one.

•I'll keep that in mind if this drags on much longer

Check if there are any bank holidays or processing delays on your bank's end too. Sometimes it's not Washington ESD causing the delay.

This whole thread is making me nervous about my own claim that just got approved yesterday! Sounds like 2-3 days is normal though.

•Yeah don't worry, seems like everyone says it takes a few days. I'm probably just being impatient.

I used Claimyr twice last year when I had payment issues and they were super helpful both times. Worth trying if you end up needing to call Washington ESD about this.

•Thanks, I'll definitely keep that option in mind if I need to call
