How long does it take to get unemployment after approval from Washington ESD?
My Washington ESD claim finally got approved yesterday after being stuck in adjudication for almost a month. I'm wondering how long it usually takes to actually receive the payment once your claim is approved? I filed my weekly claim right after getting the approval notice but my account still shows $0 paid. I'm really behind on rent and need to know if I should expect it in a few days or if it takes longer. Has anyone else experienced delays between approval and actually getting paid?

Usually takes 2-3 business days after your weekly claim is processed. Since you just got approved, your first payment might take a bit longer because they have to set up the payment system for your account. Check your payment method in your SecureAccess Washington account to make sure it's correct.

•Thanks! I have direct deposit set up so hopefully that speeds things up. Just anxious because I haven't had income for over a month now.

•yeah direct deposit is definitely faster than waiting for a check in the mail

It can vary depending on when you file your weekly claim. If you file on Sunday, you might see payment by Tuesday or Wednesday. But if there are any issues with your job search log or if you made an error on your weekly claim, it could get delayed.

•I made sure to complete my job search activities before filing. Hopefully there won't be any issues with that part.

•Wait, how many job search activities do we need to do now? I thought it was 3 per week but someone told me it changed.

•It's still 3 job search activities per week for most people. You can check the specific requirements on the WorkSourceWA website or in your Washington ESD account.

I had the same issue last year - approval took forever then payment was delayed too. What finally helped me was using Claimyr to get through to an actual Washington ESD agent. They were able to tell me exactly what was holding up my payment and got it released the same day. Check out their website at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Never heard of Claimyr but at this point I'm willing to try anything if it helps me get through to someone at Washington ESD.

•How much does that service cost? I'm hesitant to pay for something when I'm already broke from being unemployed.

•It's worth it when you consider how much time you save not calling hundreds of times. Plus they actually get you connected to a real person who can fix issues.

The whole system is so slow and frustrating! I've been waiting 3 weeks for my payment even though my claim was approved. Every time I call the 800 number I either get hung up on or sit on hold for hours just to get disconnected.

•That's definitely not normal. If it's been 3 weeks since approval, something is wrong. You should definitely try to get through to someone.

•Same thing happened to me! Turns out there was a hold on my account that I couldn't see online. Had to talk to an agent to get it removed.

•How did you finally get through to talk to someone? I've tried calling at different times but never get anywhere.

Check your payment history in your Washington ESD account. Sometimes the payment gets issued but there's a delay with your bank processing it. Also make sure your address and direct deposit info is all correct.

•Good idea, I'll double check all my info. The payment history section is still showing $0 so I don't think it's been issued yet.

•if its showing $0 then washington esd hasnt released the payment yet. usually means theres some kind of hold or issue they need to resolve

I remember when I first got approved it took about a week to get my first payment, but after that it was pretty regular. The initial setup always seems to take longer than the ongoing weekly payments.

•That makes sense. I guess I'm just anxious because I've been without income for so long already.

•Totally understand that anxiety! Being unemployed is stressful enough without having to worry about when you'll actually get paid.

You might want to look into emergency assistance programs while you're waiting. Some local food banks and utility assistance programs can help bridge the gap until your unemployment payments start coming regularly.

•That's a good suggestion. I'll look into what's available in my area.

•211 is a good resource for finding local assistance programs. Just dial 2-1-1 and they can help you find what's available.

Was your claim approved for regular UI or for some other type of benefit? Different benefit types can have different processing times.

•It's regular unemployment insurance. I was laid off from my job in retail after working there for 2 years.

•Regular UI should be pretty straightforward then. If you're not seeing payment within a week of approval, definitely try to contact them.

I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and it actually worked great. Got connected to a Washington ESD agent in like 20 minutes instead of spending all day trying to call. They were able to see exactly what was going on with my claim and fix it right away.

•That sounds really helpful. I might have to try that if I don't see payment in the next few days.

•I was skeptical about paying for a service like that but honestly it saved me so much time and frustration. Worth every penny.

Make sure you're filing your weekly claims on time every week, even if you haven't received payment yet. Missing a week can cause delays and you might have to reopen your claim.

•Yes, I've been filing every Sunday since I got approved. Definitely don't want to mess that up.

•Good! That's the most important thing. As long as you keep filing weekly and there are no issues, the payments should start coming through soon.

The waiting period after approval is honestly one of the most stressful parts of the whole unemployment process. You think you're done dealing with delays and then have to wait even longer for actual money.

Diego Flores
•Exactly! I was so relieved when I saw the approval, but now I'm stressed all over again waiting for payment.

•Hang in there! Once the payments start coming they're usually pretty reliable. It's just that initial wait that's brutal.

If you're really concerned about the delay, you could try contacting your state representative's office. Sometimes they can help cut through the bureaucracy when there are issues with Washington ESD.

•I didn't know that was an option. I'll keep that in mind if other methods don't work.

•Yeah, elected officials often have staff who specialize in helping constituents with state agency issues. They can sometimes get faster responses than individual callers.

Just wanted to follow up - did you ever get your payment? I'm in a similar situation and curious how long it ended up taking for you.

•I'll post an update once I receive it! Still waiting as of this morning but it's only been a couple days since approval.

The key thing is to stay on top of your weekly claims and keep documenting everything. Take screenshots of your claim status and payment history in case you need to reference them later.

I went through this exact same situation about 6 months ago. After my claim was approved, it took exactly 5 business days to see the payment hit my account via direct deposit. The key thing that helped speed it up was making sure I had completed all my work search activities correctly and filed my weekly claim immediately after approval. If you don't see anything by next Wednesday, I'd definitely recommend calling or using one of those callback services people mentioned. Also, check that there aren't any outstanding issues in your account - sometimes there can be a small flag that's not immediately obvious that's holding up payment processing.
