How long after being approved for unemployment will i get paid - Washington ESD timing?
Just got notification that my Washington ESD claim was approved yesterday after 2 weeks of adjudication. I'm so relieved but now I'm wondering when I'll actually see the money? I filed my weekly claim on Sunday like I was supposed to but my account still shows $0 paid out. Does anyone know the typical timeline from approval to getting paid? I really need this money for rent that's due next week.

Usually takes 2-3 business days after your weekly claim is processed. Since you filed Sunday, you should see payment by Wednesday or Thursday assuming there are no other issues with your claim.

•Thanks! I'll keep checking my account. Do you know if it goes to direct deposit automatically or do I need to set that up?

•If you set up direct deposit when you first applied, it should go there automatically. Otherwise it'll be a debit card that gets mailed to you.

mine took 4 days last month but that was because of a holiday. normally its pretty quick once approved

•Good to know, I was worried it might take another week or something

The key thing is making sure you continue filing your weekly claims on time. Washington ESD processes payments on Tuesdays and Thursdays typically. Since you were just approved, your first payment might include backpay for any eligible weeks during adjudication.

•Oh that's great news about the backpay! I was wondering if those 2 weeks during adjudication would be lost.

•Nope, as long as you continued filing weekly claims during adjudication and were eligible for those weeks, you should get paid for them.

I had the same situation last year and was getting so frustrated trying to reach someone at Washington ESD to check on my payment status. Kept getting busy signals or hung up on after waiting forever. Finally found this service called Claimyr that actually got me through to a real person - you can check it out at claimyr.com. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows exactly how it works.

•Never heard of that before, does it actually work? I've been trying to call Washington ESD for weeks about my own claim issues.

•Yeah it really works! I was skeptical at first but they got me connected within like 10 minutes. Way better than spending hours redialing.

just be patient, the system is slow but it works eventually. took me 5 days to get my first payment after approval

•5 days isn't too bad I guess, I was worried it might be weeks

CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT DAILY! Sometimes there are random holds or verification requests that can delay payment even after approval. Washington ESD doesn't always notify you right away.

•Good point, I'll make sure to log in every day to check for any new messages or requirements

•This is solid advice. I've seen people miss important deadlines because they didn't check their accounts regularly.

The waiting is the worst part honestly. I remember checking my bank account like 10 times a day when I was waiting for my first payment. It'll come though!

•Haha yeah I'm definitely guilty of obsessively checking both my bank and Washington ESD accounts

One thing to keep in mind - your first payment might be for multiple weeks if you filed weekly claims during the adjudication period. So don't be surprised if the amount is higher than expected. Make sure to save some for taxes since unemployment is taxable income.

•Oh right, I forgot about taxes. Should I have them withhold taxes from my payments or just save money separately?

•You can have 10% withheld automatically through your Washington ESD account settings. Easier than trying to save it yourself IMO.

I'm in the exact same boat! Got approved 3 days ago and still waiting. This thread is making me feel better about the timeline.

The Washington ESD system is actually pretty reliable once you're approved. My payments have come like clockwork every week for the past 3 months. Usually hits my account Wednesday morning.

•That's reassuring to hear! I was worried about inconsistent payments making it hard to budget.

just make sure you keep doing your work search requirements even after getting paid. they can audit you later and if you didnt do the searches they can make you pay it all back

•Good reminder, I've been keeping track of my job searches in a spreadsheet just in case

•Smart approach. Washington ESD requires 3 job search activities per week so keep good records.

The debit card option is actually not too bad if you don't have direct deposit set up. I was worried about fees but most ATMs are free and you can transfer to your regular bank account online.

•I think I set up direct deposit but I'll double check my account settings to make sure

I remember being so stressed about this same thing when I first got approved. The waiting between approval and first payment feels eternal when you really need the money. But once it starts coming it's pretty reliable.

•Yeah the stress is real! I keep calculating how many days I can stretch my current money.

If you need to talk to someone at Washington ESD about payment timing or any issues, definitely try that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier. I used it again last month when I had questions about my weekly claim and got through right away. Way less stressful than the regular phone system.

Keep filing those weekly claims! Even if you don't see payment right away, you need to keep certifying or you'll lose benefits for those weeks.

•Absolutely, I set a reminder on my phone to file every Sunday so I don't forget

The system has gotten a lot better since the pandemic chaos. Back then people were waiting months for payments. Now it's usually just a few days like everyone is saying.

Pro tip: download the Washington ESD mobile app if you haven't already. Makes it easier to check your claim status and payment history on the go.

Once you get your first payment the anxiety goes away so much. I was checking my account obsessively too but now I just expect it every Wednesday and it's always there.

I ended up using that Claimyr thing someone mentioned and it actually worked great. Got through to Washington ESD in like 15 minutes instead of spending all day redialing. The agent was able to explain exactly when my payment would hit my account.

You should see your payment by Thursday at the latest if you filed Sunday. Washington ESD is pretty consistent with their processing schedule once you're in the system.

•Perfect, I'll stop worrying if I don't see it by Friday then. Thanks everyone for all the helpful info!
