How long to receive unemployment payment after Washington ESD approval?

My Washington ESD claim finally got approved last Tuesday after being in adjudication for almost a month. I've been filing my weekly claims religiously and everything shows as processed on my account. But I still haven't received any payments yet. How long does it usually take to actually get the money after approval? I'm getting really stressed about rent being due next week and I thought the payments would come faster once everything was cleared up.

It typically takes 2-3 business days after your weekly claim is processed for the payment to hit your account. Since you were in adjudication, they might need to process any back payments which could take a bit longer - maybe up to a week for the full amount.

Thank you! That's reassuring. I was worried something else was wrong with my claim.

yeah mine took about 4 days when I first got approved, but the back pay came all at once which was nice

Did you set up direct deposit? That makes a huge difference in timing. Paper checks can take 7-10 days while direct deposit is usually 2-3 business days max.

•

Yes I have direct deposit set up from when I first filed. Good to know that should speed things up.

Direct deposit is definitely the way to go. I made the mistake of doing paper checks my first few weeks and it was torture waiting for them to arrive.

I had the same situation last year - claim approved after adjudication but payments were delayed. Turns out there was still a verification hold on my account that wasn't showing up clearly. Have you tried calling Washington ESD to check if there are any other holds? I know it's frustrating to get through but it might be worth it.

I've tried calling but keep getting the busy signal or get disconnected after waiting on hold for an hour. It's so frustrating!

I totally get that frustration. I actually found this service called Claimyr that helped me get through to a Washington ESD agent when I couldn't get through on my own. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. It was really helpful for getting answers about my payment delays.

Never heard of that but honestly anything that helps get through to ESD sounds worth trying at this point

Ugh the payment delays are the WORST part of this whole system. Even when everything is 'approved' you still have to wait and stress about when the money will actually show up. It's like they don't understand people have bills to pay!

•

Exactly! I just want to know if I should expect it this week or next week so I can plan accordingly.

The uncertainty is almost worse than not having the money yet. At least give us realistic timelines.

check your account online to see if the payments show as 'issued' or 'pending' - that usually gives you a better idea of timing than just 'processed

Good tip! I'll log in and check the status details. I might have missed that.

Yes, the payment status is really helpful. If it says 'issued' then it should be in your account within 1-2 business days for direct deposit.

I'm in a similar boat - approved last week but no payments yet. This is my first time on unemployment so I have no idea what's normal. Should I be worried?

0 coins

Nia Harris

•

Don't worry, this is pretty normal especially after adjudication. The system has to catch up on processing all your back claims which takes a few extra days.

That makes me feel better. I was starting to think my approval got reversed or something.

Nope, once you're approved you're good. The payments will come, it's just a matter of the timing.

For what it's worth, I've noticed that payments approved on Tuesdays and Wednesdays tend to hit accounts by Friday, while Thursday/Friday approvals usually don't show up until the following Tuesday or Wednesday.

Luca Russo

•

That's really helpful! Since mine was approved Tuesday, maybe I'll see it by Friday then.

Interesting pattern - I hadn't noticed that but it makes sense with their processing schedule.

Just want to add that if you have any other questions about your payment timing, that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier was actually really helpful for me too. I was able to get through to Washington ESD and get specific dates for when my payments would be released. Way better than guessing!

I might actually try that if my payment doesn't show up by Friday. Thanks for the recommendation!

How much does something like that cost? Seems like we shouldn't have to pay extra just to get basic information about our own claims.

I agree it's frustrating that we need help getting through, but for me it was worth it just to get concrete answers instead of stressing and wondering.

Make sure you're checking the right account too if you have multiple bank accounts. I spent three days panicking that my payment was lost when it went to an old account I forgot I had on file.

Oh wow, good point! I did update my bank info recently so I should double-check which account is active.

lol that would be so stressful but also such a relief when you found it

The waiting is honestly the worst part of unemployment. Even when everything goes right, there's always another delay or waiting period. I feel like I spend half my time just waiting for the next step in the process.

•

YES! It's like the system is designed to make you anxious and uncertain about everything.

Luca Russo

At least knowing it's normal helps. I was starting to think I did something wrong.

0 coins

The uncertainty is definitely harder than just being told 'it will take exactly 7 days' or whatever. At least then you'd know.

Quick update if anyone cares - I used that Claimyr thing to get through to Washington ESD and they confirmed my payments are scheduled to be released Thursday morning. Finally have a real timeline instead of just guessing!

That's awesome! I'm definitely going to try that if mine doesn't show up by Friday like expected.

Good to know it actually works. The Washington ESD phone system is absolutely terrible.

I hate that we need a third party service just to get basic info but I'm glad it worked for you

Also worth mentioning - if this is your first payment after a long adjudication period, sometimes they split the back pay into multiple deposits instead of one lump sum. Don't panic if you get less than expected at first.

Luca Russo

•

I hadn't thought about that possibility. Good to keep in mind so I don't freak out if the amount looks wrong.

0 coins

Nia Harris

•

Yes, they sometimes do this to avoid triggering bank fraud alerts on large deposits. The rest usually comes within a day or two.

fingers crossed your payment comes through soon! the stress of waiting is real

Thanks! Everyone here has been really helpful. At least now I know what to expect.

One last thing - make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even while you're waiting for these payments. I made the mistake of thinking I should wait until the back pay came through and it messed up my next week's claim.

0 coins

Luca Russo

•

Yes I'm definitely staying on top of the weekly claims. Don't want to create any new problems while waiting for this to resolve!

Smart! The weekly filing schedule is sacred - never skip it even when other stuff is pending.
