How long do unemployment payments take from Washington ESD after approval?
My Washington ESD claim finally got approved last Tuesday after being stuck in adjudication for almost a month. I've been filing my weekly claims but haven't received any payments yet. It's been 6 days since approval and I'm starting to worry something went wrong. How long should I expect to wait for my first unemployment payment? I really need this money for rent that's due next week.

Usually takes 2-3 business days after your claim is approved and you file your weekly claim. Since you were approved Tuesday and assuming you filed your weekly claim right away, you should see payment by Friday or Monday at the latest. Check your payment history on your Washington ESD account to see if it shows as processed.

•I checked and it shows 'payment issued' but nothing in my bank account yet. Maybe it's just the bank processing time?

•Yeah if it shows payment issued then it's on its way. Banks can take 1-2 days to process ACH deposits.

mine took forever too, like 8 days after approval before i saw anything in my account. washington esd is slow with everything

•That's frustrating but good to know I'm not the only one waiting this long

•8 days seems excessive though. Most people I know get it within 3-4 days max.

The timing depends on when you file your weekly claim and what day of the week your claim was approved. Washington ESD processes payments in batches, typically Tuesday through Thursday. If you were approved on a Tuesday and filed your weekly claim that same day, you'd likely see payment by Thursday or Friday.

•That makes sense. I filed my weekly claim Wednesday morning so hopefully I'll see something by end of week.

•I had issues with my bank not accepting the Washington ESD direct deposit at first. Had to update my banking info and it delayed everything by another week.

•Oh no, how did you know your bank rejected it? Did Washington ESD notify you?

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check on payment status, I found this service called Claimyr that helped me reach an actual agent. They have a website claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Really saved me hours of calling and getting busy signals.

•Interesting, I might need that if my payment doesn't show up soon. Getting through to Washington ESD by phone is impossible.

•Never heard of that service but anything that helps with the Washington ESD phone system sounds useful. I've wasted so many hours on hold.

Are you sure you completed all the requirements? Sometimes there are work search requirements or other conditions that can delay payment even after approval.

•I think so? I've been doing my job searches and logging them. Where can I check if there are other requirements I missed?

•Log into your Washington ESD account and check under 'Eligibility Issues' or 'To Do List' - sometimes there are additional forms or verifications needed.

•Just checked and don't see anything outstanding. Guess I just need to be patient.

PAYMENT TIMING IS RIDICULOUS WITH WASHINGTON ESD!!! I waited 2 weeks after approval and had to call like 50 times before someone told me there was a 'technical issue' with my account. They fixed it in 5 minutes but never bothered to tell me about the problem. This system is broken.

•That's exactly the kind of thing that drives me crazy about this whole system. They should notify people about these issues.

•How did you finally get through to them? I can never reach anyone at Washington ESD.

•Kept calling at 8am sharp when they open. Took dozens of attempts but eventually got through.

do you have direct deposit set up? if not it takes way longer because they mail you a debit card first

DeShawn Washington
•Yes I have direct deposit set up from when I first applied. That should make it faster right?

Sofía Rodríguez
•yeah definitely faster than the debit card route

The waiting is the worst part of this whole process. Even when everything goes right, you're still anxiously checking your bank account every few hours wondering if today's the day.

DeShawn Washington
•Exactly! I've probably checked my account 20 times today alone.

•Same here. The financial stress while waiting makes everything worse.

For future reference, Washington ESD typically processes payments Monday-Friday, but they don't process on state holidays. If your approval or weekly claim filing coincides with a holiday week, expect additional delays. Also, first payments sometimes take longer than ongoing weekly payments due to additional verification steps.

•Good to know about holidays. I don't think that's affecting mine but useful for others to know.

•The verification thing is so true. My first payment took a week but after that they were pretty consistent at 2-3 days.

I remember when I was waiting for my first payment, someone mentioned that Claimyr service for getting through to Washington ESD agents. Used it when I needed to verify my payment was actually being processed and it worked great. Worth trying if you need to talk to someone about your payment status.

DeShawn Washington
•Yeah someone else mentioned that too. Might be worth looking into if I don't see payment by Monday.

•How much does a service like that cost? Seems like we shouldn't have to pay extra just to reach our own unemployment office.

•You're right it's frustrating that we need third-party help, but honestly it saved me so much time and stress that it was worth it for me.

Check your payment method settings in your Washington ESD account. Sometimes people think they have direct deposit set up but it's actually set to the debit card option without realizing it.

DeShawn Washington
•Good suggestion, let me double check that now.

DeShawn Washington
•Just verified it's set to direct deposit with my correct bank info, so that's not the issue.

•I feel you on the bills situation. The timing of unemployment payments never seems to match up with when you actually need the money.

This brings back memories of when I was on unemployment. The waiting between approval and first payment was agonizing. I actually ended up using that Claimyr thing someone mentioned earlier when I had questions about my payment timeline. The agent I spoke to was able to confirm my payment was in process and gave me the exact date to expect it. Really helped reduce my anxiety about the whole thing.

DeShawn Washington
•That sounds really helpful. Did they charge you for that kind of basic information?
0 coins
Yuki Tanaka
•They focus on getting you connected to the right person rather than charging based on what you ask about. Much better than spending hours trying to get through the regular way.

The payment timing also depends on your bank. Some banks process ACH deposits faster than others. Credit unions are usually quicker than big banks in my experience.
0 coins
DeShawn Washington
•I use a credit union so hopefully that helps speed things up.

Klaus Schmidt
•Credit unions are definitely better for this stuff. My big bank would sometimes hold unemployment deposits for 'verification' which was super annoying.

Just be glad your claim got approved relatively quickly. Some people wait months in adjudication. A few extra days for payment processing isn't that bad in comparison.

DeShawn Washington
•You're absolutely right. I should be grateful the adjudication finally finished. The payment will come when it comes.

The system really should send automated updates about payment status. Having to wonder and worry about whether something went wrong is unnecessarily stressful during an already difficult time.

•Completely agree. Even just a text saying 'payment processed and sent to your bank' would help so much.

UPDATE: Payment finally hit my account this morning! Took exactly 7 days from approval to receiving funds. Thanks everyone for the reassurance and advice.

For anyone else reading this thread later - the typical timeline is 2-5 business days after approval if everything is set up correctly. Anything longer than that and you should probably call to make sure there isn't an issue with your account.

•Agreed, and if calling doesn't work, those third-party services like Claimyr that people mentioned seem like a viable option for getting through to someone.
