When can you file your weekly unemployment claim in Washington ESD?
I'm new to this whole unemployment thing and I'm totally confused about when I'm supposed to file my weekly claims. My initial claim was approved last week but I have no idea when the filing window opens or closes. I've been checking the Washington ESD website constantly but I can't find clear information about the exact timing. Do I file on Sunday? Monday? Is there a specific time window I need to hit? I'm worried I'll miss the deadline and lose my benefits. Can someone explain the weekly filing schedule?

Weekly claims open every Sunday at 6 AM and you have until 11:59 PM the following Saturday to file. Most people file on Sunday morning to get it out of the way. You're filing for the week that just ended, so when you file on Sunday you're claiming for the previous Sunday through Saturday.

•Oh that makes sense! So I should file this Sunday for last week's unemployment?

Eduardo Silva
•Exactly! And don't stress too much about the exact timing - you have a full week to get it done.

I always file mine first thing Sunday morning around 7 AM. Never had any issues and it's usually processed by Monday. The system can get slow later in the week so I'd recommend filing early if possible.

•Good tip! I'll set an alarm for Sunday morning then.

•Same here - Sunday morning is the way to go. Less traffic on the site.

Just a heads up - if you have trouble getting through to Washington ESD to ask questions about your claim timing or anything else, I found this service called Claimyr that actually helps you get connected to an agent. They have a demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Way better than sitting on hold for hours.

•Is that legit? I've been trying to call Washington ESD for weeks about my adjudication.

•Yeah I used it when I had issues with my job search requirements. Check out claimyr.com - saved me tons of time.

•Yes, as long as you file before Saturday at 11:59 PM you're fine. The system is open all week.

Pro tip: you can actually file your weekly claim through the Washington ESD website or by phone. The phone system is available 24/7 but the website is easier in my opinion. Just make sure you have your SSN and PIN ready.

•I didn't know about the phone option! What's the number?

Emma Johnson
•It's 800-318-6022 but honestly the website is much faster and easier to use.

•The phone system is ancient and confusing. Stick with the website unless you absolutely have to use the phone.

I'm still confused about something - when I file this Sunday am I claiming for THIS week or LAST week? Like if today is Thursday, what week am I filing for on Sunday?

Eduardo Silva
•You're always filing for the week that just ended. So if you file this Sunday, you're claiming for last Sunday through last Saturday.

•Okay that helps. I was overthinking it I guess.

Does anyone know if there's a grace period if you miss the Saturday deadline? Like what happens if you forget to file until Sunday morning?

Eduardo Silva
•There's no automatic grace period. If you miss the deadline you have to call Washington ESD to see if they'll allow a late filing, but it's not guaranteed.

•I missed it once and they let me file late but I had to explain why. Don't make it a habit.

The Washington ESD system is SO confusing for new people. They really need to make the instructions clearer on their website. I remember being lost for weeks when I first started filing.

•Right?? I feel like I need a manual just to figure out the basics.

•It gets easier once you do it a few times. The first couple weeks are always the hardest.

Another thing to remember - make sure you answer all the questions honestly about any work you did during the week. Even if you only worked a few hours, you need to report it or you could get in trouble for overpayment later.

•Good point. I did some freelance work last week for like 4 hours. I definitely need to report that.

Sean Fitzgerald
•Yes, report everything! It's better to be safe than sorry with Washington ESD.

•The system is pretty forgiving actually. I've made small mistakes and it was fine.

Question about holidays - does the filing schedule change if there's a holiday during the week? Like if Monday is a holiday, do we still file on Sunday?
0 coins
Eduardo Silva
•The filing schedule stays the same regardless of holidays. Sunday to Saturday deadline doesn't change.

•Thanks! That's what I thought but wanted to make sure.

For anyone still having trouble reaching Washington ESD by phone, I second the Claimyr recommendation from earlier. Used it last month when I had questions about my standby status and it actually worked. Way better than the endless hold times.

•How much does it cost? I'm already broke from being unemployed.

•It's worth checking out their site at claimyr.com - they focus on getting you connected rather than making it expensive.

I always file mine on Tuesday mornings during my coffee break. Never had any problems and it gives me something to do while I'm job searching.

•That's a good routine! I should probably set a regular day too instead of just randomly remembering.

•Yeah having a routine helps. I do weekly claims Tuesday, job search stuff Wednesday and Thursday.

Does the mobile app work for filing weekly claims or do I need to use the full website? My laptop is acting up.

Andre Dupont
•The mobile site works fine for weekly claims. Just go to the Washington ESD website on your phone browser.

Carmen Sanchez
•Perfect, thanks! That'll save me from fighting with my laptop every week.

PSA: Don't forget to keep doing your job search activities even if you're filing weekly claims. Washington ESD can ask for your job search log at any time and you need to have 3 activities per week documented.

Freya Andersen
•Oh shoot, I forgot about the job search requirement! Where do I keep track of that?

•You can use the WorkSourceWA website or just keep your own log. Make sure you have employer names, dates, and what you did.

One more tip - if you're having any issues with your claim status or need to talk to someone at Washington ESD about adjudication or anything else, that Claimyr service people mentioned earlier is legit. I was skeptical at first but it really does help you get through to an actual person instead of waiting on hold forever.

Amara Okonkwo

•Definitely worth checking out the demo video they have. Shows exactly how it works.

Summary for anyone else who's confused: File every Sunday through Saturday for the previous week. System opens Sunday 6 AM. Don't miss the Saturday deadline. Report all work. Keep job search records. Easy once you get the hang of it!
