What day to certify for unemployment - Washington ESD weekly claim timing confusion
I'm really confused about when I'm supposed to certify my weekly claim with Washington ESD. I filed my initial claim two weeks ago and it got approved, but now I'm not sure what day I should be doing my weekly certification. Some people say Sunday, others say it depends on your last name or something? I don't want to mess this up and lose benefits. Can someone explain the correct day to certify for unemployment benefits?

Weekly claims open every Sunday at 6 AM and you have until the following Saturday to submit. You can certify any day during that week - it doesn't matter what your last name is or when you filed originally.

•Oh okay, so I can do it any day between Sunday and Saturday? I thought there was a specific day assigned to me.

•Exactly! Just make sure you do it every week to keep getting paid. The system will show you which weeks are available to certify.

•No, that's not true. You have the whole week to certify. Sunday is just when the new week opens up in the system.

I've been trying to get through to Washington ESD for three days to ask this same question! Their phone lines are always busy. Has anyone found a way to actually talk to a human there?

•I discovered this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to Washington ESD agents. They have this demo video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ. Saved me hours of redialing!

•Really? That sounds too good to be true. Does it actually work?

•Yeah, I was skeptical too but it got me connected in about 20 minutes instead of the usual 2+ hours of busy signals.

The Washington ESD website clearly states that weekly claims are available from Sunday 6 AM through Saturday 11:59 PM. You must certify every week you want to receive benefits, regardless of which day you choose within that window.

•You're welcome. Always best to check the official Washington ESD website for accurate information rather than relying on rumors.

Pro tip: I always certify on Sunday evenings so I don't forget. If you wait until Saturday you might miss the deadline if something comes up.

•That's smart! I'll probably do the same thing to establish a routine.

Wait, do I need to certify even if I worked part-time during the week? I'm confused about reporting work and wages.

Miguel Diaz
•Yes, you still need to certify every week. Just report your work hours and gross wages accurately. Washington ESD will calculate your reduced benefit amount.

•Okay good, I was worried I'd have to skip weeks when I worked.

I missed one week of certification because I was in the hospital. Will I lose all my benefits?

•You can request to reopen a missed week if you had good cause. Medical emergencies typically qualify. Contact Washington ESD as soon as possible to explain the situation.

•If you need to reach Washington ESD, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier really helps with getting through their phone system.

Been certifying for 8 weeks now, always do it Tuesday mornings with my coffee. Never had any issues.

•Good to know it's flexible! I was stressing about the timing for no reason.

•Yeah, don't overthink it. Just pick a day and stick with it so you don't forget.

Does anyone know if the time you certify affects when you get paid? Like if I do it Sunday vs Friday?
0 coins
Connor Byrne
•No, the day you certify doesn't affect payment timing. Washington ESD processes payments on their schedule, usually within 2-5 business days after certification.

•Thanks! I was wondering if certifying early would get me paid faster.

Important reminder: you can only certify for weeks that have already ended. So if it's Wednesday, you can't certify for the current week yet.

•Good point. I tried to certify for the current week when I first started and got confused why it wasn't available.

•Yeah, it's always for the previous week. The system won't let you certify for partial weeks.

my claim got flagged for adjudication right after i started certifying should i keep doing weekly claims

Miguel Diaz
•Yes, keep certifying even during adjudication. If your claim gets approved, you'll receive back pay for all the weeks you certified.

The mobile app makes certification super easy. Takes like 2 minutes once you get the hang of it.

•Yeah, it's called SecureAccess WA. Same login as the website but more convenient.

Quick question - if I certify late on Saturday, will it still count for that week?
0 coins
Keisha Williams
•As long as you submit before 11:59 PM on Saturday, it counts for that week. The system cuts off at midnight.

•Perfect, thanks for the clarification!

Honestly the most stressful part of being unemployed is making sure I don't mess up the weekly claims. At least now I know I have flexibility with the timing.

•I totally get that anxiety. Once you get into a routine it becomes second nature though.

For anyone still confused: Washington ESD opens weekly claims every Sunday at 6 AM. You have until the following Saturday at 11:59 PM to certify. Pick any day that works for you and stick with it!
