When do you certify for unemployment - Washington ESD weekly claim schedule?
I just got approved for unemployment benefits last week and I'm confused about when I'm supposed to certify for my weekly claims. The Washington ESD website mentions something about certification but I can't find clear dates or deadlines. Do I need to wait for them to contact me or should I be doing something now? I don't want to miss any deadlines and mess up my benefits.

You typically get notified by Washington ESD when your weekly claims are available to file, usually through your SecureAccess Washington account. Most people can start filing their first weekly claim about a week after their initial application is processed.

•Thanks! Should I be checking my account daily or do they send email notifications?

•They should send you notifications but I'd check your account every few days just to be safe. The system can sometimes be delayed with notifications.

Weekly claims are usually available to file on Sunday mornings and you have until the following Saturday to complete them. You'll need to answer questions about any work you did that week and any job search activities.

•What happens if I forget to file one week? Can I still file the next week?

•You can usually file late claims but it might delay your payment. Washington ESD generally allows you to file for previous weeks if you have a good reason for the delay.

•I missed filing one week last month and had to call Washington ESD to get it sorted out. Took forever to get through on the phone.

If you're having trouble reaching Washington ESD by phone to ask about certification schedules, I used Claimyr.com recently and it was super helpful. They have this system that handles the calling for you - there's even a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Saved me hours of trying to get through their busy phone lines.

•Is that one of those paid services? I'm already strapped for cash being unemployed.

•It's worth checking out their site to see what they offer. For me, the time saved was definitely valuable since I was spending whole mornings trying to get through to Washington ESD.

MAKE SURE you understand the job search requirements before you start filing! Washington ESD requires you to make at least 3 job search contacts per week and keep detailed records. If you don't meet these requirements, they can deny your weekly claim.

•What counts as a job search contact? Does applying online count?
0 coins
Vince Eh
•Yes, online applications count, but you need to keep detailed records including the employer name, date, position, and method of contact. WorkSourceWA activities also count toward your requirements.

•I got dinged for not having enough job search contacts in my third week. They made me do extra WorkSourceWA activities to get reinstated.

The certification process asks you questions like: Did you work? Are you able and available for work? Did you refuse any job offers? Answer everything honestly because they cross-check with employers.

•What if I worked a few hours but didn't earn much? Do I still report it?
0 coins
Gabriel Ruiz
•YES, report ALL work and earnings, even if it's just a few dollars. Washington ESD will calculate how it affects your weekly benefit amount. Hiding work income can get you in serious trouble for fraud.

been filing weekly claims for 2 months now and the pattern is pretty consistent - new claims available sunday morning, due by saturday night. sometimes the system is slow on sunday mornings tho

•Good to know about Sunday mornings being slow. I'll try to file later in the day.

•Yeah I usually wait until Sunday afternoon or Monday to avoid the rush.

One thing that confused me initially - your first payment won't come right away even if you file your weekly claim perfectly. There's typically a waiting week, and then processing time on top of that.

•How long does the processing usually take after you file?
0 coins
Tate Jensen
•If everything goes smoothly, usually 2-3 business days after you file your weekly claim. But if there are any issues or red flags, it can take much longer.

I've been unemployed for 6 weeks and still haven't received a single payment. My weekly claims keep showing 'pending' status. Anyone else dealing with this nightmare?

•Sounds like your claim might be in adjudication. That's when Washington ESD is investigating something about your claim - could be related to your job separation, work history, or identity verification.

•How do I find out what they're investigating? I can't get anyone on the phone and there's no clear information in my account.

•This is exactly the kind of situation where Claimyr helped me. When my claim was stuck in adjudication, I couldn't get through to Washington ESD for weeks. Claimyr got me connected to an actual agent who explained what documents they needed to resolve my case.

For anyone new to this - keep copies of EVERYTHING. Your weekly claim confirmations, job search logs, any correspondence with Washington ESD. I learned this the hard way when they questioned one of my claims months later.

•What's the best way to keep track of job search activities?

•I use a simple spreadsheet with columns for date, employer, position, method of contact, and any follow-up. Washington ESD can audit your job search log at any time.

Quick tip: if you're getting partial unemployment (working reduced hours), you still need to file weekly claims and report all your earnings. The system will calculate your partial benefit amount automatically.

•I didn't know you could get partial benefits! My hours got cut to 20 per week, should I apply?

Aria Khan
•Definitely worth applying if your hours were significantly reduced. Washington ESD has specific formulas for partial unemployment benefits.

The Washington ESD mobile app is pretty decent for filing weekly claims once you get used to it. Sometimes easier than using the website, especially if you're filing from your phone regularly.

•I didn't know there was an app! What's it called?

Sophia Gabriel
•It's just called 'Washington ESD' in the app stores. Has most of the same functionality as the website for routine stuff like weekly claims.

IMPORTANT: If you're on standby status (temporary layoff expecting to return to same employer), your certification process might be slightly different. Make sure you understand your specific situation.

•What's the difference between regular UI and standby status for weekly claims?
0 coins
Sunny Wang
•With standby, you might not have the same job search requirements, but you still need to be available for work if your employer calls you back. The weekly claim questions are slightly different.

has anyone had problems with the system not saving their weekly claim info? happened to me twice where I filled everything out but it didn't submit properly
0 coins
Marcelle Drum
•That sounds frustrating! Did you get confirmation numbers when you thought you submitted?
0 coins
Effie Alexander
•no confirmation number either time, that's how I knew something went wrong. now I always screenshot the confirmation page

Pro tip: Don't wait until Saturday night to file your weekly claim. If there are technical issues with the website, you might miss the deadline and have to explain the delay to Washington ESD.

•Good advice. I usually try to file by Wednesday or Thursday each week to avoid any last-minute problems.

Remember that when you certify, you're basically signing a legal document stating that all your information is accurate. Washington ESD takes fraud seriously - I know someone who had to pay back benefits plus penalties for not reporting work income properly.

Marcelle Drum
•That's scary. What happens if you make an honest mistake on a weekly claim?
0 coins
Romeo Quest
•Honest mistakes are usually handled differently than intentional fraud, but you still need to correct them as soon as you realize the error. Washington ESD generally works with people who self-report mistakes.

If you're having ongoing issues with weekly claims or certification questions, sometimes the local WorkSource office can help. They have staff who understand the UI system and might be able to assist or advocate for you with Washington ESD.

•I tried my local office but they said they couldn't access my specific claim information, only provide general guidance.

Misterclamation Skyblue
•That's why services like Claimyr can be so helpful - they actually get you connected directly to Washington ESD agents who can access your specific claim details and resolve issues in real time.

The bottom line: file your weekly claims on time, report all work and income honestly, meet your job search requirements, and keep detailed records. The certification process becomes routine once you understand what's expected.

•Good luck! The system can be confusing at first but you'll get the hang of it. Don't hesitate to ask questions if you run into issues.
