What day do you certify for unemployment with Washington ESD weekly claims?
I'm new to filing unemployment and totally confused about when I'm supposed to submit my weekly claim certification. I know Washington ESD has specific days but I can't figure out what mine is. My claim was approved two weeks ago but I haven't received any clear instructions about which day I need to certify each week. Does it depend on your SSN or when you first filed? I'm worried I'm going to miss deadlines and mess up my benefits.

Your weekly claim certification day is based on the last digit of your Social Security Number. Washington ESD assigns different days throughout the week to spread out the system load. You should have received this information when your claim was approved - check your correspondence on your SecureAccess Washington account.

•I looked through all my messages and don't see anything specific about which day. Is there a chart somewhere that shows which SSN digits correspond to which days?

•Yes, if your SSN ends in 0-1 you certify on Sunday, 2-3 on Monday, 4-5 on Tuesday, 6-7 on Wednesday, and 8-9 on Thursday. You can certify starting at 6 AM on your assigned day.

I had the same confusion when I started! The Washington ESD system doesn't make it super clear. You can actually certify any day after your assigned day if you miss it, but you can't certify early. So if your day is Tuesday, you can do it Tuesday through Saturday of that week.

•That's helpful to know! So there's some flexibility if I can't do it exactly on my assigned day.

•Just don't wait too long though - if you miss too many weeks in a row Washington ESD will close your claim and you'll have to reopen it.

Pro tip: if you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to confirm your certification day, I recently discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) which helped me get connected to an actual agent without waiting on hold forever. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Way better than calling the main number and getting hung up on.

•How does that work exactly? Do they just call for you or something?

Selena Bautista
•They handle the calling process and get you connected when an agent is available. Saved me hours of frustration trying to reach Washington ESD directly.

ugh the whole weekly certification thing is so confusing when you start out!! i missed my first week because i didnt know when to do it and then had to call to get it fixed. took forever to get through

•Did they make you restart your whole claim or were they able to just add that missed week back?

•they fixed it but i had to explain the whole situation and it delayed my payment by like a week

Also important to remember that you're certifying for the week that ended the previous Saturday. So when you certify on your assigned day, you're reporting about the week that just finished, not the current week. This trips up a lot of new claimants.

•Wait what? So if I certify on Tuesday I'm reporting about the previous week? That seems backwards.
0 coins
Nolan Carter
•Exactly. If you certify on Tuesday March 11th, you're reporting for the week of March 1-7. It's confusing but that's how Washington ESD does it.

Make sure you answer all the questions accurately when you certify. They ask about work, job searches, availability, etc. Don't just click through them quickly - Washington ESD reviews these and incorrect answers can cause issues with your claim.

•What happens if you make a mistake on one of the questions? Can you go back and fix it?

•You usually can't change it once submitted. If it's a significant error you might need to call Washington ESD to correct it, which is why being careful the first time is important.

I've been certifying for months now and it becomes routine after a while. Just set a reminder on your phone for your assigned day. The questions are basically the same every week unless your situation changes.

Daniel White
•Good idea about the phone reminder. Do you do it first thing in the morning or later in the day?

Teresa Boyd
•I usually do it around lunchtime. Early morning can sometimes be slow because everyone's trying to certify at once.

The Washington ESD website has been really glitchy for me when trying to certify. Sometimes it kicks me out halfway through and I have to start over. Anyone else having technical issues?

•Try using a different browser or clearing your cache. I had that problem and switching from Chrome to Firefox fixed it for me.

•I'll try that, thanks! So frustrating when you're trying to meet the deadline and the system won't cooperate.

Question about job search requirements - do I need to log job searches before I certify or can I do them after? I'm always scrambling to get my three searches done before my certification day.

Nolan Carter
•You should complete your job searches during the week you're reporting about, not necessarily before you certify. So for the week of March 1-7, do your searches during that actual week.

Lourdes Fox
•That makes more sense. I was trying to cram them all in on certification day which seemed wrong.

Does anyone know if the certification day changes if there's a holiday? Like if my day is Monday but it's Memorial Day?
0 coins
Natalia Stone
•Good question! I think you can still certify online even on holidays since the website is available 24/7. The payment processing might be delayed but certification should still work.

Aileen Rodriguez
•I've certified on holidays before with no issues. The payments just process the next business day instead.

This whole system is needlessly complicated. Why can't they just let everyone certify whenever they want during the week instead of assigning specific days?
0 coins
Nolan Carter
•It's to manage server load and spread out the processing. If everyone certified on the same day, the system would probably crash.

Zane Gray
•I guess that makes sense from a technical standpoint, but it's still annoying for claimants who forget their assigned day.

For anyone still struggling to get answers from Washington ESD directly, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier has been a game changer. Much easier than trying to navigate their phone system during business hours.

•Is there a cost for using that service?

•They have different options available, but honestly it was worth it just to avoid the frustration of calling Washington ESD repeatedly and getting nowhere.

I missed my certification day once and panicked thinking I'd lose my benefits. Turns out you have until Saturday to certify for that week, so there's a grace period.

•That's reassuring! I was worried one missed day would ruin everything.

•Just don't make it a habit. Washington ESD notices patterns and frequent late certifications can trigger reviews of your claim.

The mobile app for Washington ESD makes certification pretty easy once you figure out your day. Much better than trying to do it on the website on your phone.

Daniel White
•There's a mobile app? I didn't know that existed!

Jackie Martinez
•Yeah, search for 'Washington ESD' in your app store. Makes the whole process much smoother on mobile.

Pro tip: screenshot your confirmation page after you certify. I've had the system glitch and not show my certification went through, but having the screenshot saved me from having to re-do it.

•Smart idea! I never thought to do that but it makes sense as backup proof.

•Definitely going to start doing this. Better safe than sorry with these government systems.

I've been on unemployment for six months now and the certification process becomes second nature. Just remember: know your day, be honest with your answers, and don't stress too much about minor mistakes.

One more thing - make sure your address and contact info is current with Washington ESD. They sometimes send important notices about certification requirements or changes to the process.

Daniel White
•Good point! I should double-check that everything is up to date in my account.

•And remember that Claimyr option if you need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD. Much less stressful than the regular phone system.
