What day of the week do you file for unemployment in Washington ESD?
I'm totally confused about when I'm supposed to file my weekly unemployment claim. I just got approved last week and I don't want to mess this up. Do I file on the same day every week or does it depend on my last name or something? I've heard different things from different people and the Washington ESD website isn't super clear to me. Can someone explain what day of the week I should be filing?

You can file your weekly claim any day of the week, but it's for the previous week. So if you're filing this week, you're reporting on last week's job search activities and any work you did. Most people file on Sunday or Monday to stay consistent.

•Oh that makes sense! So I can pick whatever day works for me and just stick with it?

Emma Garcia
•Exactly! Just make sure you file every week and don't skip or you might have issues with your claim.

I always file on Sundays because that's when I have time to sit down and think about my job search activities from the previous week. It's easier to remember what I did when it's fresh in my mind.

•That's smart. I tried filing on different days and kept forgetting details about my job applications.

•Sunday filing is popular because you can review the whole previous week at once. Just remember the claim period runs Sunday through Saturday.

I had the same confusion when I started! The key thing is that you're filing for the week that just ended, not the current week. So if you file on a Tuesday, you're still reporting on the Sunday-Saturday period that just finished.

•This is really helpful, thank you! I was worried I had to file on a specific day.

•Yeah the timing confused me too at first. Just be consistent whatever day you pick.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to ask these questions directly, I recently found out about claimyr.com - they help you get connected to an actual ESD agent when you call. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Might be worth checking out if you need to talk to someone directly about your claim.

•Interesting, I've never heard of that service before. Does it actually work?

•Yeah it worked for me when I needed to get some issues resolved with my claim. Saved me hours of calling and getting busy signals.

Just to add - make sure you don't file too early! I made the mistake of filing on Saturday once thinking I was being proactive, but you can't file for a week that hasn't ended yet. The system won't let you.

•Good to know! So I should wait until at least Sunday to file for the previous week?

Chloe Boulanger
•Yes exactly. Sunday is the earliest you can file for the week that just ended on Saturday.

•The system usually opens up Sunday morning for the previous week's filing.

I file every Monday morning with my coffee. It's become part of my routine and I never forget that way. Plus I can think clearly about what jobs I applied to the week before.

•That's a good system! I should probably set a reminder on my phone.

•Yeah I have a Monday morning alarm that says 'file unemployment claim' so I don't forget.

Does anyone know if there's a deadline for filing each week? Like do I have to file by a certain day or can I file later in the week?

•You should file as soon as possible after the week ends, but I think you have until the following Saturday to file for any given week. Don't quote me on that though.

•I believe you have about a week to file, but it's best to file consistently and early. Late filing can sometimes cause payment delays.

The Washington ESD website has a section about this but it's buried in their FAQ somewhere. Basically you can file any day but most people develop a routine.

•I'll have to look for that FAQ section. Thanks for the tip!

I've been filing on different days depending on my schedule and it's worked fine. The important thing is just making sure you file every single week and don't miss any.

•Yeah missing a week can really mess up your claim. I learned that the hard way.

•Exactly! Consistency is more important than what specific day you pick.

For what it's worth, I tried that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier when I had questions about my filing schedule. It actually did help me get through to a real person at Washington ESD who explained the whole weekly filing process clearly. Worth considering if you need direct answers.

•How much does something like that cost? I might need to talk to someone about my claim.

•I don't remember the exact cost but it was reasonable considering how much time it saved me trying to get through on my own.

I work part-time so I file my weekly claims on my days off. Usually Wednesdays. Works fine for me.

•That makes sense to file when you have time to focus on it properly.

•Yeah I tried filing during my work breaks but I kept making mistakes rushing through it.

The main thing is just don't overthink it. Pick a day that works for your schedule and stick with it. The system is flexible about when you file as long as you file every week.

•Thanks everyone! I think I'll start filing on Sunday mornings. That seems like it would work best for my schedule.

Just remember to keep track of your job search activities throughout the week so you have everything ready when you file, whatever day you choose.

One more thing - if you're ever unsure about your filing or have questions, that Claimyr service can help you get connected to Washington ESD directly. I used it when I had issues with my claim timing and it was super helpful.
