Weekly claim filing mistake - hung up mid-call with ESD and now can't refile
Desperate for advice! My fiancé messed up his weekly claim over the phone last week. When the system asked if he worked for any other employer, he hit the wrong button and said yes (he didn't work anywhere else). He panicked and hung up before the claim submitted, thinking he could call right back to fix it. BUT when he called back, the system wouldn't let him file his weekly claim again - says he already did one! He's been trying for a WEEK to reach someone at ESD but can't get through. He can't access the online system at all (we've tried everything). Will this mistake mean his payment gets delayed or denied? Has anyone dealt with this? Not sure if he should keep trying to call or just wait and see what happens with his claim.

There's a good chance this will delay his payment. When the system recognizes a partial claim, it often flags it for review, especially when there's a discrepancy about employment. He needs to speak with an agent to explain what happened. Unfortunately, as you've discovered, getting through to ESD is extremely difficult right now - the phone lines are constantly jammed with high call volumes. The online system would be the easiest solution, so it might be worth troubleshooting why he can't access it. What error is he getting when he tries to log in?

•Thanks for responding! He keeps getting an error about his SAW account not being properly linked to his ESD account. We've tried resetting passwords, clearing cache, different browsers, even different devices. Nothing works! It's so frustrating. Do you think we should keep trying the phones or is there another way to contact them?

I had almost the exact same thing happen!! Except I accidentally said I was on vacation (I wasn't). I tried for TWO WEEKS to get through the phones with no luck. I was about to give up when I found out about Claimyr - it's a service that helps you get through to an actual ESD agent. I was skeptical but desperate so I tried it. Got through to ESD in about 30 minutes! The agent was able to correct my claim right away. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Seriously saved me from losing my benefits.

•I get the skepticism, but when you've been trying to get through for weeks with no success, it feels worth it. They don't actually take any of your unemployment info - they just connect you with the ESD line and hold your place. I was desperate enough to try anything at that point.

Your fiancé needs to get this fixed quickly. When someone partially completes a weekly claim and then hangs up, the system often marks it as "incomplete with issues" which sends it to adjudication automatically. This can cause significant delays (sometimes 4-8 weeks). Here's what he should do: 1. Keep calling ESD first thing in the morning (7:00 AM) when the lines open 2. If he can't get his online access working, he should request a new SAW account linking by submitting a secure message through the main ESD website (doesn't require full account access) 3. Document everything - when he called, what happened, the exact error on the partial claim 4. Make sure he continues to file weekly claims even while this is getting resolved The key is to speak to a claims specialist who can see the incomplete claim in the system and correct it before it gets too deep into processing.

•Thank you for this detailed advice! We didn't know about the secure message option without full account access - will definitely try that today. And we'll start calling right at 7am tomorrow. Do you know if there's a specific department or option we should ask for when we finally get through?

•Ask for Claims Assistance specifically. Some agents can only help with general questions, but a Claims Assistant can actually make changes to his claim. When you reach someone, clearly explain it was a technical error mid-filing rather than an intentional hang-up. If the first agent can't help, politely ask to be transferred to a tier 2 specialist.

OMG the ESD phone system is THE WORST!!! I literally called 47 times in one day last month. FORTY SEVEN!!! And never got through to a human. Their system is completely broken. I feel your pain.

•same. i gave up after trying for 3 days straight. ended up driving to a worksource center and they helped me fix my claim in person. might be worth trying if you have one nearby?

•That's actually a really good idea! There's a WorkSource about 30 minutes from us. I didn't realize they could help with claim issues directly. Might try that route if we can't get through on the phones this week. Thanks!

This happened to my roommate in January. He made a mistake during the phone claim and hung up. The system registered it as an incomplete claim with conflicting information about employment. His payment got held up for 3 weeks while they sorted it out. The good news: ESD eventually processed it correctly and he got backpay for the missed weeks. The bad news: It took multiple calls to fix and the system won't let your fiancé file a new weekly claim because it thinks he already filed one (even though it was incomplete). The best approach is to reach an actual person at ESD. Keep trying to call every morning right when they open. Also, for the website issues - have you tried creating a completely new SAW account? Sometimes that works better than trying to fix the existing one.

•Thanks for sharing your roommate's experience - that gives me hope that it will eventually get fixed! We haven't tried creating a brand new SAW account - I didn't know that was possible when there's already one tied to his SSN. I'll look into that option today.

this is why i always do my claims online never by phone. the phone system is garbage and makes these kinds of mistakes way too easy. not helpful for ur current situation i know but for future reference. also try calling right at 7am thats when u have best chance of getting thru

Just checking back - were you able to get this resolved? For the benefit of others who might encounter a similar issue, it would be helpful to know what eventually worked. The phone-based weekly claim system does have these quirks that can cause problems, especially when a call is interrupted.

•We finally got through! It took 3 days of calling right at 7am, but we finally connected with someone yesterday. They could see the partial claim in the system and fixed it on the spot. Payment should come through next week with no reduction. For anyone else with this issue - persistence is key! Also, the agent told us that hanging up mid-claim is actually quite common and they have a specific procedure for fixing it. Thanks everyone for your advice!
