Washington ESD unemployment payments missing - where does my unemployment money go?
I've been approved for unemployment benefits for 6 weeks now and I'm getting really confused about where my payments are actually going. My Washington ESD account shows that payments have been 'issued' but I'm not seeing the money anywhere. I set up direct deposit when I first filed my claim but nothing is showing up in my bank account. When I check my payment history it just says 'paid' with dates but no details about where the money actually went. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm starting to panic because I need this money for rent and bills.

Check your bank account carefully - sometimes Washington ESD deposits show up with weird names like 'WA STATE ESD' or 'UNEMPLOYMENT INS' instead of something obvious. Also make sure you're looking at the right account - the one you put on your initial application.

•I've checked every account I have and there's nothing. The routing and account numbers are definitely correct on my Washington ESD profile.

•Mine took like 3-4 business days to actually show up even after ESD said it was 'paid' - maybe give it a few more days?

This happened to me last year. You need to call Washington ESD and have them verify your banking information. Sometimes there's a mismatch between what you think you entered and what's actually in their system. The problem is getting through to someone on the phone - their lines are always busy.

•I've been trying to call for days but can't get through. The automated system just says high call volume and hangs up on me.

•Try calling right at 8am when they open, that's usually your best bet. Or keep trying the callback option if it's available.

Had the same issue and spent weeks trying to get through to Washington ESD. Finally used Claimyr to get connected to an actual agent. Turns out my bank had rejected the deposits because of some security flag. The agent was able to fix it in like 10 minutes once we got on the phone. Check out claimyr.com - there's a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

•Never heard of Claimyr before - is it legit? I'm desperate at this point but don't want to get scammed.

•Yeah it's real. They just help you get through to ESD faster. I was skeptical too but it actually worked and saved me tons of time.

•How much does it cost though? I'm already broke waiting for my unemployment money.

Check if your bank account is still active and hasn't been closed for any reason. Also some banks have limits on electronic deposits that might cause them to reject unemployment payments.

•Bank account is definitely active - I use it for other things. But I didn't know about deposit limits, I'll call my bank too.

•Good point about the limits. Some smaller banks or credit unions have weird rules about government payments.

ugh this is so frustrating!! the same thing happened to my sister and it took like 3 weeks to sort out. washington esd is such a mess

•What did your sister do to fix it? I can't wait 3 weeks for this.

•she had to get them to reissue the payments to a different account. but first they had to figure out where the original payments went

Also check if you accidentally signed up for the debit card option instead of direct deposit. Washington ESD sends out those Bank of America unemployment debit cards and sometimes people don't realize that's what they selected.

•How would I check that? I definitely remember choosing direct deposit but maybe I messed up somehow.

•Log into your Washington ESD account and look under payment preferences. It should show whether you picked direct deposit or debit card.

•This! I did this by accident and was wondering where my money was for weeks until the debit card showed up in the mail.

The Washington ESD system is so confusing about payments. Mine shows 'issued' but then there's like a 2-3 day delay before I actually get the money. Sometimes it comes on Wednesday, sometimes Friday, no consistency at all.

Isabella Santos
•But mine has been showing 'issued' for over a week now. That seems way too long even with delays.

•Yeah that's definitely not normal. Usually 3-4 business days max in my experience.

I had this exact problem and it turned out Washington ESD had the wrong account number by one digit. Took forever to get someone on the phone to fix it. The payments were just going into some random account somewhere. You really need to talk to an actual person to sort this out.

Isabella Santos
•Oh no, that's terrifying. How did you eventually get through to them?

•Honestly I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. I was tired of wasting hours trying to call. It was worth it to just get connected to someone who could actually help.

Check your spam/junk email folder too. Sometimes Washington ESD sends notifications about payment issues that get filtered out. Also look for any letters in the mail - they might have sent something about a problem with your bank info.

•Good idea, I'll check everything. I might have missed something important.

•Yeah they're really bad about communicating payment problems clearly. Half the time you don't know there's an issue until you call.

This is why I always do the paper checks instead of direct deposit. Takes longer but at least I know exactly where my money is going and when it's coming.

Isabella Santos
•Can I switch to paper checks now? That might be easier than trying to figure out what's wrong with the direct deposit.

Mateo Lopez
•Yeah you can change it in your Washington ESD account settings. Just know it takes like 7-10 days to get the checks in the mail.

•Paper checks are so old school but honestly they're more reliable than all this electronic stuff that breaks all the time.

SAME PROBLEM HERE! Been waiting 2 weeks for my unemployment money and Washington ESD keeps giving me the runaround. Their phone system is absolutely terrible and I can never get through to talk to a real person. This is ridiculous when people need this money to survive!

•It's so frustrating! I don't understand how they can say the money is 'paid' when it's clearly not reaching anyone.

•The whole system is broken. They act like they're doing us a favor when this is insurance we paid into.

Your bank might have put a hold on the deposits if they're large amounts or coming from a new source. Call your bank and ask if there are any pending or held deposits. Sometimes they hold government payments for verification.

•That's a really good point. My unemployment amount is pretty high so maybe that triggered something.

•Yeah especially if it's your first time getting unemployment. Banks can be overly cautious about new electronic deposits.

Update us when you figure it out! I'm dealing with something similar and want to know what the solution is. Washington ESD really needs to fix their payment system.

•Will do! I'm going to try calling my bank first and then figure out how to get through to Washington ESD.

•Seriously consider the Claimyr option if you can't get through. I know it sounds weird but it actually works and saves so much time and frustration.

This happened to my neighbor and it turned out Washington ESD had flagged her account for some kind of review. The payments were being held until they finished investigating something about her job separation. She had no idea until she finally got through to someone.

Isabella Santos
•How would I know if my account is flagged for review? My claim status just says active.

•I don't think it shows up anywhere obvious in your online account. That's why you really need to talk to someone at Washington ESD directly.

•They're terrible about communicating when there are problems. You basically have to call and ask specifically about payment holds.

Check if you have any outstanding issues on your Washington ESD account that might be holding up payments. Sometimes there are requests for additional information that aren't obvious when you log in.

Isabella Santos
•I've looked through everything and don't see any pending issues or requests for information.

•The system doesn't always show everything that's happening behind the scenes. That's another reason why talking to an agent is so important.
