How to get my W2 from Washington ESD unemployment online - can't find it anywhere

I've been looking everywhere on the Washington ESD website for my 1099-G tax form from last year's unemployment benefits but I can't figure out where to download it. I received UI benefits for about 6 months in 2024 and need the tax document for filing my return. The secure access portal doesn't seem to have a clear section for tax forms. Has anyone successfully downloaded their 1099-G from the Washington ESD site? I really don't want to wait for them to mail it if I can avoid it.

You need to log into your SecureAccess Washington account first, then navigate to the 'Tax Information' section under your unemployment services. The 1099-G forms are usually available by late January each year for the previous tax year.

I'm logged in but I don't see a Tax Information section anywhere. Is it under a different menu?

0 coins

Try looking under 'Benefit Information' or 'Account Summary' - sometimes the navigation changes and they move things around.

omg same problem here! been searching for like an hour and getting nowhere with their website

0 coins

Right?! Their website is so confusing to navigate

0 coins

I had this exact issue last month and ended up using Claimyr to get through to someone at Washington ESD who could help me locate the form. The agent walked me through exactly where to find it on the website - turns out it's buried in a section I never would have found on my own. Check out claimyr.com, they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how their service works.

How much does that cost though? Seems like I should be able to find a tax form without paying extra

0 coins

The peace of mind was worth it for me - I spent hours trying to navigate their system on my own. The agent found it in like 2 minutes and explained exactly where it was.

The 1099-G forms are typically found in the 'Documents' section of your online account. You'll need to scroll down past your weekly claim history to find the tax documents section. Make sure you're looking at the correct tax year - 2024 forms should be available now.

0 coins

Found a Documents section but it only shows my determination letters and correspondence. No tax forms visible.

0 coins

If it's not showing up there, you might need to contact them directly. Sometimes there are delays if you had any overpayment issues or appeals during your benefit period.

0 coins

This is exactly why I hate dealing with government websites. Everything is so hard to find!

0 coins

Tell me about it. I spent 3 hours last year trying to download mine

0 coins

Actually, let me give you the exact steps that worked for me: 1) Log into SecureAccess Washington 2) Click on 'Unemployment Services' 3) Look for 'View Benefit Information' 4) Scroll to the bottom where it says 'Tax Documents' 5) Select the tax year you need. If you don't see step 4, your 1099-G might not be ready yet.

0 coins

Following these steps now... I see Unemployment Services but the View Benefit Information link takes me to a page that just shows my claim balance and payment history.

0 coins

Hmm, that's odd. Try clearing your browser cache and cookies, then log back in. Sometimes the site doesn't load all sections properly.

0 coins

Why don't they just email these forms like normal companies do? Having to hunt around their terrible website is ridiculous

0 coins

Right? My employer just emails me my W2 automatically

0 coins

Privacy laws probably prevent them from emailing tax documents

0 coins

I remember having this same frustration. The Washington ESD website navigation is honestly terrible. What ended up working for me was calling them directly, but getting through took forever. Someone mentioned Claimyr earlier - I wish I had known about that service when I was dealing with this. Would have saved me hours of busy signals and hold music.

0 coins

Yeah I'm starting to think calling might be my only option at this point

0 coins

If you do call, try early morning around 8 AM when they open. That's when I had the best luck getting through.

One more thing to check - make sure you received at least $10 in unemployment benefits during 2024. If your total benefits were under that threshold, they're not required to issue a 1099-G. Also, if you had any benefit overpayments that were recovered, that might affect the form availability.

0 coins

I definitely received way more than $10, probably around $8,000 total over those 6 months

0 coins

Then you should definitely have a 1099-G available. If the website isn't working, calling is probably your best bet.

0 coins

just wanted to say thanks for asking this question because I need mine too and had no idea where to start looking

0 coins

No problem! Hopefully we both figure this out soon

Update on the Claimyr option - I actually used them again last week for a different issue and they're really helpful. The agent I spoke with mentioned that a lot of people have trouble finding the tax forms on the Washington ESD website because the link location changes depending on your claim status and whether you have any pending issues. It's not always in the same place for everyone.

0 coins

That actually makes sense why some people find it easily and others can't

0 coins

Interesting, I might need to try that service if I can't figure this out myself

0 coins

I had to request mine by mail last year because the online system was down for maintenance during tax season. Took about 2 weeks to receive it. If you're in a hurry, definitely try calling first.

0 coins

2 weeks isn't too bad I guess, but I'd rather get it now if possible

0 coins

Yeah I totally understand wanting it right away for tax prep

0 coins

Another option is to check if your tax software can import the information directly from Washington ESD. Some of the major tax prep programs have partnerships with state agencies for automatic document retrieval.

0 coins

I use TurboTax - I'll check if they have that option

0 coins

TurboTax does have a document import feature, but I'm not sure if Washington ESD participates in it. Worth checking though!

0 coins

UGH this is bringing back memories of trying to find my 1099-G last year. Took me forever and I eventually had to call. The person on the phone said a lot of people have this problem because the website design is confusing.

0 coins

It really is poorly designed. You'd think they'd make tax documents easy to find

0 coins

Pro tip: if you do end up calling Washington ESD, have your Social Security number and claim confirmation number ready. They'll ask for both to locate your account quickly.

0 coins

Good to know, thanks! I'll make sure to have all that info ready

0 coins

Also write down the date you last filed a weekly claim - they sometimes ask for that too

0 coins

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! Following this thread for updates. Hope someone finds a solution that works.

0 coins

I'll definitely update if I figure it out!

0 coins

Same here, really need to find mine soon

0 coins

Just tried the Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and it actually worked great. Got connected to a Washington ESD agent who helped me locate my 1099-G in about 5 minutes. Turns out mine was in a different section than expected because I had filed an appeal during my benefit period. Really glad I didn't waste more time trying to navigate their website myself.

0 coins

That's awesome! I think I'm going to try that service too if I can't figure this out by tomorrow

0 coins

Definitely worth it if you're stuck. The agent was really patient and explained exactly where to find it for future reference.

0 coins

For anyone still struggling with this - I finally found mine! It was under 'Payment History' then there's a small link at the bottom that says 'Tax Forms'. Not intuitive at all but that's where it was hiding.

0 coins

OMG thank you! I'm going to check that right now

0 coins

You're a lifesaver! I've been looking for hours

0 coins

UPDATE: Found it! You were right, it was buried under Payment History. Thank you so much!!

0 coins

This thread was so helpful! Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and solutions.

0 coins

Agreed! Really appreciate everyone taking the time to help out
