Washington ESD 1099-G forms - when will unemployment 1099 be available 2024?
I've been checking my Washington ESD account every day but still don't see my 1099-G form for 2024 unemployment benefits. I received UI payments from March through September last year and need the tax form to file my return. Does anyone know when Washington ESD usually releases the 1099-G forms? I'm getting anxious because I want to file my taxes early this year.

Washington ESD typically releases 1099-G forms by January 31st each year. If you don't see yours by February 1st, you should contact them directly. You can also check your SecureAccess Washington account under the tax documents section.

Thanks! I've been checking SAW but the tax documents section is empty. Guess I need to wait a few more days.

I'm in the same boat! Got unemployment from April to August and nothing yet. This is stressing me out because my tax preparer wants all my documents by next week.

Don't panic yet - Washington ESD has until January 31st legally. If you absolutely need to file early, you can calculate the amount from your payment history in your account.

How do I find my total payments? I can see individual weekly claims but not a year-end summary.

I've been trying to call Washington ESD about my 1099-G for three days straight. Their phone lines are completely jammed and I keep getting disconnected after waiting 2+ hours. Has anyone actually gotten through to them recently?

I had the same problem last week until someone told me about Claimyr.com - it's a service that helps you get through to Washington ESD agents. I watched their demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ and decided to try it. Got connected to an agent in 15 minutes instead of hours of busy signals.

Really? That sounds too good to be true. How does it work exactly?

They basically handle the calling and waiting for you. You tell them what you need help with and they get you connected to the right Washington ESD department. Way better than sitting on hold forever.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you're looking in the right place for your 1099-G. In your Washington ESD account, go to 'Online Services' then 'View and Maintain Account Information' and look for 'Tax Information' or 'Tax Documents'. Some people miss this section.

I found that section but it just says 'No tax documents available at this time' - is that normal?

Alejandro Castro
Yes, that's normal until they release them. Should change to show your 1099-G once it's processed.

Does Washington ESD mail paper copies of the 1099-G or is it only available online now? I prefer having a physical copy for my records.

Lourdes Fox
They send paper copies by mail if you have a mailing address on file, but the online version is usually available first. You can also print the PDF from your account.

Good to know, thanks. I'll keep checking online then.

be careful with washington esd 1099s - last year mine had the wrong amount and i had to file an amended return. double check the total against your weekly payment history before filing taxes

Oh no, how did you catch the error? I wouldn't have thought to verify it.

my tax guy noticed it was off by like $800. always worth checking your payment summary in your account

I received unemployment in 2024 but also had an overpayment that I paid back. Will that affect my 1099-G amount?
0 coins
Lourdes Fox
The 1099-G should reflect the net amount you actually received. If you repaid an overpayment in 2024, that should reduce the taxable amount shown on the form.

That makes sense. I'll need to verify the math when I get my form.

Quick question - if I was on standby status for part of 2024, do those payments show up on the same 1099-G as regular unemployment?
0 coins
Lourdes Fox
Yes, standby payments are considered unemployment compensation for tax purposes so they'll be included on your 1099-G with your regular UI payments.

Perfect, thank you for clarifying that.

This might be a dumb question but do I need the 1099-G to file my taxes or can I just use my own records of the payments?

Alejandro Castro
You can technically file without the 1099-G if you have accurate records, but it's much better to wait for the official form. The IRS gets a copy too, so you want your numbers to match exactly.

Makes sense, I'll wait for the official form then.

Anyone else having trouble accessing their Washington ESD account? I keep getting error messages when I try to log into SAW.

Try clearing your browser cache and cookies. The SAW system can be finicky sometimes.

That worked! Thanks for the tip.

I got my 1099-G yesterday and noticed it includes the $600 federal supplement payments from early 2024. Is that right?
0 coins
Lourdes Fox
Wait, there weren't any federal supplement payments in 2024. Those ended in 2021. You might be looking at a different year's form or there's some confusion about what payments you received.

You're right, I was looking at an old form by mistake. My bad!

For those still waiting - I just called Washington ESD using that Claimyr service someone mentioned and the agent told me 1099-G forms are being released in batches through the end of January. Mine should be available by Monday.
0 coins
Teresa Boyd
That's helpful to know they're doing batches. At least there's a timeline now.

Justin Trejo
Did the agent say what determines which batch you're in?

Marina Hendrix
She said it's based on when your claim ended, but didn't give specifics. Just that everyone should have theirs by January 31st.

PSA: Don't forget that unemployment benefits are fully taxable as income. Make sure you either had taxes withheld from your weekly payments or set money aside to pay when you file.

Good reminder. I forgot to elect withholding and now I'm worried about owing a big tax bill.

It's not too late to make estimated payments if you're concerned about the amount you'll owe.

One thing to watch out for - if you moved during 2024, make sure your address is updated with Washington ESD or you might not receive the mailed copy. The online version will still be available though.

How do you update your address with Washington ESD? Through the SAW portal?

Freya Ross
Yes, you can update it through SecureAccess Washington in your profile settings, or call them directly.

Just got off the phone with Washington ESD (used Claimyr to get through) and they confirmed that all 1099-G forms will be available by January 31st. If you don't see yours by February 1st, contact them for a reissue.

Thanks for the update! I might try Claimyr too if mine doesn't show up by next week.

That's the third person who mentioned Claimyr working well. Might be worth trying if you need to reach Washington ESD.

For anyone still waiting - check your spam folder if you have email notifications enabled. My 1099-G availability notice went to spam for some reason.

Good tip! I found the notification in my spam folder too.

Same thing happened to me last year. Always worth checking spam for Washington ESD emails.
