Where to find unemployment W2 for Washington ESD benefits - need for taxes
I received unemployment benefits from Washington ESD last year and now I need to find my 1099-G form for tax filing. I can't seem to locate it anywhere in my SecureAccess Washington account or my mail. Does anyone know where exactly I can download or request this form? I'm getting stressed because tax season is here and I need this document.

You're looking for a 1099-G, not a W2. Unemployment benefits get reported on 1099-G forms. Log into your SecureAccess Washington (SAW) account and look under the tax documents section. It should be available for download there.

•Oh right, 1099-G! Thanks for the correction. I'll check my SAW account again.

•Yeah I made the same mistake last year calling it a W2 lol

If you can't find it in your online account, Washington ESD mails them out by January 31st. Check your mail carefully - sometimes they get mixed in with other mail. You can also call Washington ESD to request a duplicate if needed.

•I've been checking my mail but haven't seen anything yet. Might need to call them.

•Good luck getting through on the phone! I've been trying for days and keep getting disconnected.

•If you're having trouble reaching them by phone, there's actually a service called Claimyr that can help you get through to Washington ESD agents. Check out claimyr.com - they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

I had the same issue last month! Turns out my 1099-G was in my SecureAccess Washington account under 'Tax Information' but it wasn't labeled very clearly. Look for anything that says tax documents or 1099-G specifically.

•Found it! It was buried in there but you're right, it's under Tax Information. Thank you so much!

•Awesome! Yeah they don't make it very obvious where to find it.

Just to clarify for anyone else reading this - if you received unemployment benefits in 2024, you should receive a 1099-G form showing the total amount paid to you. This is taxable income that needs to be reported on your federal tax return.

•Wait, unemployment is taxable? I thought it wasn't since it's government assistance.

•Yes, unemployment benefits are taxable at the federal level. Washington state doesn't have income tax so you don't need to worry about state taxes on it.

•Ugh that's frustrating. Wish someone had told me that when I was collecting.

If anyone is still having trouble accessing their account or finding documents, I recently discovered Claimyr which helped me get through to an actual Washington ESD representative. They were able to help me access my tax documents over the phone.

•How much does that cost? I'm hesitant to pay for something like that.

•It was worth it for me because I'd been trying to call for weeks without success. Much better than sitting on hold for hours.

Another option is to check if Washington ESD sent it to an old address. I moved last year and forgot to update my address with them, so my 1099-G went to my old place. Had to contact them to get it resent.

•Good point about address changes. I did move but I think I updated everything.

•Worth double checking in your account settings just to be sure.

For future reference, you can usually access your 1099-G online starting in late January. Washington ESD is required to make them available by January 31st each year.

•That's good to know for next year. I always forget about tax time until the last minute.

If you're doing your own taxes, make sure to enter the full amount from Box 1 of your 1099-G. That's your total unemployment compensation for the year.

•Should I enter the gross amount or net amount after they took out taxes?

•Enter the gross amount from Box 1. If they withheld federal taxes, that would show in Box 4 and you'd enter that separately as taxes withheld.

I'm still waiting for mine to show up in the mail. Getting worried since it's already February. Should I be concerned?

•They're supposed to be mailed by January 31st, so you might want to contact Washington ESD to request a duplicate.

•Same here, haven't gotten mine yet either. Mail has been slow lately though.

•I might try that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier to get through to them faster.

Just wanted to add that if you received unemployment from multiple states, you'll get separate 1099-G forms from each state. But since this is about Washington ESD, you'd only get one from them.

•Good point. I worked in Oregon before moving to Washington so I had to track down forms from both states.

PSA: Don't file your taxes without this form! The IRS gets a copy too, so they'll know if you don't report your unemployment income.

•Yeah, learned that the hard way a few years ago. Got a letter from the IRS later.

If anyone else is having trouble getting through to Washington ESD by phone, I had success using Claimyr recently. They got me connected to an agent who was able to help me with my tax document issue right away.

•How does that work exactly? Do they just call for you?

Carmen Sanchez
•They have a system that handles the calling and waiting, then connects you when an agent becomes available. Saved me hours of trying to get through myself.

For those still looking, in your SecureAccess Washington account, go to 'eServices' then look for 'Unemployment Services' and then 'Tax Information'. That's where the 1099-G download should be.

Important reminder: if you had taxes withheld from your unemployment benefits during the year, that will show up in Box 4 of your 1099-G. Make sure to claim that as taxes paid when you file.

•I totally forgot about that! Good catch.

The Washington ESD website also has a FAQ section about 1099-G forms that explains where to find them and what to do if you can't access yours.

•Link to that FAQ would be helpful if anyone has it.
