How to get 1099-G from Washington ESD unemployment online - need for taxes
I need to get my 1099-G form from Washington ESD for my taxes but I can't figure out how to download it online. I received unemployment benefits last year and my tax preparer says I need this form. I've been looking all over the Washington ESD website but can't find where to access it. Does anyone know how to get the 1099-G form online? I really don't want to wait for them to mail it if I can avoid it.

You can get your 1099-G through your SecureAccess Washington account. Log into eServices for Unemployment and look for the 'Tax Documents' section. It should be available there for download as a PDF.

•Thanks! I'll try logging in right now. Do you know if they're available yet for 2024 tax year?

•They usually release them by end of January, so they should be there now.

I had trouble accessing mine last week too. The website kept timing out when I tried to log in. Anyone else having issues with the Washington ESD site?

•Yeah the site has been super slow lately, especially in the mornings.

•I ended up using Claimyr to get through to someone at Washington ESD about it. Found them at claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Way easier than trying to call myself.

Step by step process: 1) Go to SecureAccess Washington 2) Log into your account 3) Click on eServices for Unemployment 4) Look for 'Correspondence' or 'Tax Documents' tab 5) Your 1099-G should be listed there for download. Make sure you're using the same login credentials you used for your weekly claims.

•What if I forgot my login info? I haven't used the account since I went back to work last summer.

•You can reset your password on the SecureAccess Washington login page. You'll need your SSN and some other info to verify your identity.

Mine wasn't showing up even though I definitely received benefits last year. Turns out there was a delay in processing some of the 1099-G forms due to system updates. Had to call Washington ESD to get it resolved.

•How long did it take to get through to someone when you called?

•About 2 hours of trying different times. The phone lines are always busy. Honestly wish I had known about that Claimyr service the other person mentioned.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you download and save a copy as soon as you see it. Some people have had issues where the document disappeared from their account after a few months. Print it or save the PDF to your computer.

•This happened to me! Went to print it a week later and it was gone from my account.

•Exactly why I always tell people to download immediately. The online system isn't always reliable for long-term storage.

If you can't find it online, you can also request a duplicate by calling the Washington ESD customer service line. They can mail you a paper copy, but it takes about 7-10 business days.

•Good to know as a backup option. Really hoping the online version works though.

•I tried calling for weeks and never got through. The automated system just hangs up on you after being on hold forever.

Also make sure you're looking at the right tax year! The 1099-G for 2024 benefits would be for your 2024 taxes that you're filing now. Don't accidentally download 2023 if you received benefits in both years.

•Good point! I only received benefits in 2024 so should just be one form.

Emma Wilson
•Yeah they're usually clearly labeled by tax year in the system.

Quick question - does the 1099-G show all the benefits you received or just certain types? I got regular unemployment plus some other assistance and want to make sure everything is included.

•It should show all taxable unemployment compensation you received from Washington ESD. That includes regular UI benefits. Any federal programs would be on separate forms.

•Thanks! That's what I was hoping to hear.

I'm having trouble even logging into SecureAccess Washington. Keeps saying my account is locked. Anyone know how to fix this?

Emma Wilson
•Try clearing your browser cache and cookies first. If that doesn't work, you might need to call to unlock your account.

•Ugh, really don't want to deal with calling them. Their phone system is terrible.

•This is exactly why I used Claimyr when I had issues. Much easier than dealing with the busy phone lines yourself.

For anyone still having trouble - I found mine under the 'Correspondence' section rather than looking for a specific 'Tax Documents' area. It was listed as 'Form 1099-G Tax Statement' with the date it was issued.

•That's helpful! I'll check the correspondence section if I can't find it elsewhere.

•Mine was there too! Thanks for the tip.

Does anyone know if you have to report unemployment benefits on your taxes even if no taxes were withheld? I elected not to have taxes taken out during the year.

•Yes, unemployment benefits are taxable income regardless of whether taxes were withheld. You'll need to report the full amount and may owe taxes on it.

•Oof, good to know. Glad I asked before filing.

Just successfully downloaded mine! Took about 5 minutes once I found the right section. For anyone still struggling, it's definitely in the eServices area under correspondence. The file downloaded as a PDF automatically.

Word of warning - if you moved or changed addresses after filing for unemployment, make sure your address is updated in the system before requesting the 1099-G. Mine got mailed to my old address last year and was a huge hassle to sort out.

•You can do it through your eServices account or by calling them. Much easier online if you can get logged in.

If anyone is still having issues getting through to Washington ESD about missing 1099-G forms, I had good luck using Claimyr again last week for a different issue. They really do make it easier to reach an actual person instead of getting stuck in phone tree hell.

•How much does that service cost? Is it worth it just for a tax form?

Yuki Nakamura
•I think it's worth it if you're stuck and need to talk to someone. Saved me hours of frustration trying to call myself.

One more tip - if you're using a tax preparation service like H&R Block or TurboTax, they might be able to help you locate the form or provide guidance on what to do if you can't find it. Some of them have experience dealing with Washington ESD document issues.

•Yeah, professional tax preparers deal with this stuff all the time. They usually know the workarounds.
