How to get unemployment tax form from Washington ESD - can't find 1099-G anywhere
I've been looking everywhere for my 1099-G tax form from Washington ESD and I can't figure out how to access it. I received unemployment benefits for about 6 months last year and now I need the form to file my taxes. I've checked my SecureAccess Washington account multiple times but I don't see it anywhere. Does anyone know where exactly I'm supposed to find this form? The tax deadline is coming up and I'm starting to panic.

You should be able to find your 1099-G form by logging into your SecureAccess Washington (SAW) account and going to the 'Tax Documents' section. Washington ESD typically makes these available by January 31st each year. If you can't see it there, try checking under 'Document Center' or 'My Documents' in your unemployment services portal.

•I've looked in both those places and I still don't see anything. Is there a specific link or section I should be clicking on?

•Try going directly to the Washington ESD website and look for 'Get Your 1099-G' - there should be a direct link that takes you to the tax document portal.

•Did you end up finding it? This is so frustrating, you'd think they'd make it easier to locate.

I had the exact same problem last month! Turns out I was looking in the wrong place. You need to log into your SAW account, then go to 'Unemployment Services' and look for 'Tax Information' or '1099-G Forms' - it's not always in the main document center. Also make sure you're using the same login credentials you used when you filed your unemployment claim.

•Thank you! I'll try that specific path. Did you have any trouble accessing it once you found the right section?

•No trouble once I found it, but it took me forever to locate the right menu option. Washington ESD's website navigation isn't the most intuitive.

If you're still having trouble accessing your 1099-G online, you might want to try calling Washington ESD directly. I know their phone lines are usually swamped, but I recently discovered this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually helps you get through to unemployment agents by phone. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. I used it last week to resolve an issue with my claim status and got connected within an hour instead of spending all day trying to call.

•Never heard of Claimyr before - is it legit? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point.

•Yeah it's legitimate, they just automate the calling process so you don't have to sit there hitting redial all day. Really saved me time and frustration.

•Interesting, might have to check that out. I've been trying to reach Washington ESD for weeks about a different issue.

Another thing to check - make sure you're looking for the right tax year. If you received benefits in 2024, your 1099-G should be available now for the 2024 tax year. But if you got benefits spanning two years, you might need separate forms. Also verify that Washington ESD has your correct mailing address because they sometimes mail paper copies if there are issues with electronic delivery.

•Good point about the tax year. I received benefits from March through August 2024, so it should all be on one form for 2024.

•Then you should definitely have access to it by now. If the online method isn't working, requesting a paper copy might be your best bet.

this is exactly why i hate dealing with government websites, everything is so complicated and nothing is where you expect it to be

•Tell me about it! I just want to file my taxes and they're making it way harder than it needs to be.

•I agree the website design could be better, but once you know where to look it's pretty straightforward.

Just to clarify the process: Log into SecureAccess Washington → Select 'Unemployment Services' → Look for 'Tax Documents' or '1099-G' option → Download your form. If you don't see this option, it could mean your account hasn't been updated with tax document access yet. Washington ESD sometimes has delays in making these documents available to all claimants.

•This is really helpful, thank you. I'm going to try this exact sequence when I get home tonight.

•I followed these steps and found mine right away - it was under a submenu I hadn't noticed before.

If all else fails, you can call Washington ESD and request they mail you a paper copy of your 1099-G. Fair warning though - their phone lines are absolutely brutal to get through to. I tried calling for 3 days straight last year and kept getting hung up on due to high call volume.

•That's exactly what I was dealing with before I found Claimyr. Saved me so much time and frustration not having to keep calling back.

•How long did it take when you called the regular way? I'm worried about spending days trying to get through.

Sofia Ramirez
•Honestly never got through the regular way. Either busy signal or got hung up on after being on hold for hours.

Check if your browser is blocking pop-ups or if you need to update your browser. Sometimes the 1099-G download link opens in a new window and gets blocked. Also try using a different browser or clearing your cache - I've seen Washington ESD's website act weird with older cached data.

•I hadn't thought about browser issues. I'll try using Chrome instead of Safari and see if that makes a difference.

•Yeah, government websites can be finicky with different browsers. Chrome usually works best in my experience.

I'm having the same problem but mine is more complicated - I moved twice last year while I was on unemployment and I'm not sure if Washington ESD has my current address. Will this affect my ability to get the 1099-G online?
0 coins
Mei Chen
•Your address shouldn't affect online access to the 1099-G, but you should update your address with Washington ESD anyway for future correspondence.

•Good to know, I was worried they might have mailed it to my old address and that's why I can't access it online.

UPDATE: I finally found it! I had to go to the main Washington ESD website (not SAW), click on 'Get Your 1099-G Tax Form' and then it redirected me to log in through a different portal. The form was there waiting for me. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions - this thread probably saved other people from the same frustration I went through.

•Glad you found it! That's good to know about the separate portal - Washington ESD really should make this process more obvious.

For anyone else reading this thread, make sure you download and save a copy of your 1099-G right away. Don't just view it online - actually download the PDF to your computer. I learned this the hard way when the website went down for maintenance right before I needed to file my taxes.

•Great advice! I just downloaded mine and saved it in three different places.

•Smart thinking. Government websites are notorious for being down when you need them most.

Question about the 1099-G - does it show the total amount of benefits received or does it break it down by month? I'm trying to reconcile my records and want to make sure everything matches up.

Mei Chen
•The 1099-G shows your total unemployment benefits for the tax year in box 1, and any federal income tax withheld in box 4. It doesn't break it down by month.
0 coins
QuantumQuest
•Thanks! That makes sense. I was overcomplicating it by trying to match monthly amounts.

This whole process is ridiculous. Why can't they just email the 1099-G automatically like every other organization does? Having to hunt around multiple websites and portals is such a waste of time.

Yara Haddad
•I think there are privacy and security reasons why they don't email tax documents, but I agree the process could be simpler.

•At least once you know the process it's not too bad. But yeah, first time finding it is definitely confusing.

PSA for anyone who had taxes withheld from their unemployment benefits - make sure you check box 4 on your 1099-G to see how much federal tax was withheld. You'll need this information when filing your return.

Jamal Thompson
•Good reminder! I opted to have taxes withheld so I need to make sure I include that on my tax return.

•Exactly. A lot of people forget about this and then wonder why their refund is different than expected.

Just wanted to add that if you received unemployment benefits in multiple states, you'll need separate 1099-G forms from each state. But since this is the Washington ESD forum, this probably doesn't apply to most people here.

•Good point. I only dealt with Washington ESD so just needed the one form, but that's useful info for anyone who moved between states.

One more tip - if you're using tax software like TurboTax or H&R Block, you can usually import your 1099-G directly instead of typing in all the numbers manually. Just look for the 'import tax documents' option.

Jamal Thompson
•That's awesome, I didn't know tax software could import these documents. Will definitely save me some typing.

•Yeah, it's a huge time saver and reduces the chance of making errors when entering the amounts.

For what it's worth, I tried using that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier when I had trouble reaching Washington ESD about my 1099-G issue. Worked exactly like they said - got connected to an agent who was able to help me access my tax documents. Definitely beats sitting on hold for hours.

•Agreed! Maybe the mods can pin it during tax season. This seems to be a really common problem that trips up a lot of people.
