How long for ESD payments to show up in Chase bank account? Processing times?
Just got my unemployment claim approved after waiting forever (thank goodness!) and I'm wondering how long it takes for the money to actually show up in my Chase bank account? This is my first time on unemployment and I'm stressing about bills due next week. Do direct deposits to Chase take 1 day? 2-3 days? Longer? My payment status says 'paid' on the ESD website since yesterday but nothing in my account yet. Anyone with Chase bank know the typical timeline?

When my payments show as 'paid' on the ESD portal, they usually hit my Chase account within 1-2 business days. Weekends and holidays can delay it though. If you just saw the 'paid' status yesterday and today is a business day, I'd expect it tomorrow morning. Chase tends to post ESD deposits early in the morning - I usually see mine around 3-4am.

•Thanks so much! That's a huge relief. My rent is due Monday so I was starting to panic. Hopefully it'll be there tomorrow morning then!

•Oh no, I hope it's not 3 days! Did they tell you anywhere that the first one takes longer or did you just notice that yourself?

I've had Chase for years and get my unemployment through direct deposit there. In my experience, when ESD says 'paid' it takes exactly 2 business days to show in my Chase account. So if it showed 'paid' on Monday, I'd see it Wednesday morning. This has been consistent for me through 3 different claim periods. However, I've noticed sometimes the funds are 'pending' in Chase for a few hours before they fully clear - might be worth checking if you have any pending deposits showing.

•This matches my experience too 👆 Always 2 business days with Chase, like clockwork. And yeah, it shows as pending first usually the night before.

THE SYSTEM IS RIGGED! They DELIBERATELY delay your payments! I've been on unemployment 3 times and every single time they hold your money. First payment ALWAYS takes longer no matter what bank you have. I've had Chase, BECU, and Wells Fargo. They say it's for "verification" but really they're just keeping our money as long as possible. The first payment took almost a WEEK even though website said PAID!!!

•That's not accurate. ESD doesn't benefit from delaying payments - they're required by law to issue benefits promptly once approved. The delays are from standard bank processing times and ACH transfer windows. Different banks have different posting policies, but there's no conspiracy to hold funds unnecessarily.

I've been struggling to get through to ESD to check on my payment delays too. After getting frustrated with the constant busy signals, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual person at ESD. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent told me Chase deposits typically process within 48 hours of showing 'paid' on the portal, but the first payment might take an extra day because of verification steps. Saved me days of stress!

•I'll check that out if mine doesn't show up tomorrow! I've been trying to call them all week with no luck. Their phone system is impossible.

•Just checked and the account/routing numbers are correct in my ESD profile. That would've been a disaster if I had typed them wrong!

To provide some official context: When ESD shows a payment as 'paid,' it means they've initiated the payment process. Standard ACH transfers typically take 1-3 business days to complete depending on when they were initiated and your bank's processing schedule. Chase specifically tends to process ACH deposits overnight and post them early the next business morning. If this is your first payment on a new claim, there's sometimes an additional verification step that can add 24 hours to the process. If you don't see the funds after 3 business days from the 'paid' status date, then it would be appropriate to contact ESD for assistance. Additionally, verify that your payment method is set to direct deposit rather than the debit card option, as this affects how quickly you receive funds.

•Thanks for the detailed info! Yes, I double-checked and my payment method is definitely set to direct deposit. I guess I'll just need to be patient for another day or two.

UPDATE: My payment just hit my Chase account this morning! It was exactly 2 business days after it showed 'paid' on the ESD website. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance!
