EDD direct deposit timing question - how fast after showing 'paid' status?

Finally got my EDD claim moving after weeks of stress! I certified last night around 12:15am and noticed it switched to 'paid' status when I checked this morning. I enrolled in the new direct deposit system and chose my Chase account (filled out all the routing/account info). My question is - does anyone know how long it typically takes for the money to actually hit your bank account after it shows 'paid' in the system? I'm a bit worried because Thanksgiving is this Thursday and banks will be closed. Will that delay things? First time using direct deposit with EDD so not sure what to expect timewise.

In my experience, EDD direct deposit takes about 24-48 hours to hit your account after it shows as 'paid' in the system. But yeah, the holiday might delay things. Banks don't process ACH transfers on federal holidays or weekends. If it already shows paid today (Monday), you'll probably see it by Wednesday. If not, it'll likely be Friday or even Monday next week because of Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the info! That's what I was afraid of with the holiday. Hoping it comes through by Wednesday then...

BofA is way different - that's their old debit card system. This person is asking about the new direct deposit option EDD rolled out. Completely different payment method and timeframe.

Direct deposit timing varies by bank, but generally takes 1-3 business days after EDD shows payment as "paid." However, the Thanksgiving holiday will definitely affect this timeline. Banks don't process ACH transfers on federal holidays, and many also have modified schedules the day before. If your payment shows paid status today, you MIGHT see it by Wednesday, but there's a good chance it won't hit your account until Friday or even the following Monday due to holiday processing delays. The Federal Reserve's ACH system, which handles these transfers, observes all federal holidays. One thing to check - confirm your EDD account shows "Outstanding" in the payment activity, not just "Paid" in the certification status. The payment won't process until it reaches Outstanding status.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I just checked and it does show "Outstanding" in payment activity. Fingers crossed it processes before the holiday, but I'll plan for it possibly being delayed until next week. Really appreciate the help!

I just switched from the Money Network card to direct deposit last month and mine took 3 days to hit my account the first time. But only 2 days after that. Not sure why the first one was slower but maybe they do extra verification?

If you're still waiting for the money and need to call EDD to check on the status, try Claimyr (claimyr.com). They helped me get through to an EDD rep in under 25 minutes when I had issues with my direct deposit not showing up. Saved me hours of frustration trying to get through the regular phone lines. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Worth it when you need to talk to someone at EDD urgently.

Yes, it worked for me twice now. The first time I needed to verify why my payment was stuck in pending and the second time was to fix a direct deposit issue similar to yours. Both times I got through to a rep within 30 minutes.

Something nobody mentioned - make sure all your direct deposit info was entered correctly! I had a situation where I transposed two digits in my account number and my payment got rejected and returned to EDD. Took an additional 10 days to sort out. Double-check your banking info in the portal if you don't see the deposit in the expected timeframe.

Yikes, that sounds like a nightmare! I triple-checked my account info when I entered it, but now I'm paranoid and I'll check it again. Thanks for the warning!

That's great! Was this your first direct deposit payment from EDD? Mine was slower the first time but faster after that.

Yes, this was my first one! Good to know they might be even faster in the future.

That's awesome that you got it so quickly! For future reference, Chase is usually pretty fast with ACH deposits - they often process them earlier in the day compared to some other banks. The 36-hour timeline you experienced is pretty typical for direct deposit from EDD when there are no holidays involved. Glad you don't have to worry about it over Thanksgiving!

That's really helpful to know about Chase being faster with ACH deposits! I was worried it might take longer since it was my first time, but sounds like I got lucky with the timing and the bank choice. Definitely makes me feel more confident about future payments. Thanks for the insight!

For what it's worth, I've been using direct deposit with EDD for about 6 months now and the timing has been pretty consistent - usually 1-2 business days after it shows "paid" status. The key thing I learned is to always check that it shows "Outstanding" in the payment activity section, not just "Paid" in your certification history. One time mine got stuck because my bank flagged it as suspicious since it was a larger amount than usual, so I had to call my bank to release the hold. Might be worth giving Chase a heads up that you're expecting an EDD deposit if it's your first time, just in case their fraud detection kicks in.
