How long after getting approved for unemployment will I get paid - Washington ESD timeline?
Finally got the approval notice for my unemployment claim yesterday after waiting 6 weeks in adjudication hell. My claim status changed from 'under review' to 'approved' on my SecureAccess Washington account. But I still don't see any payment information or when I should expect to actually receive money. Does anyone know how long Washington ESD takes to process the first payment after approval? I've been waiting so long and really need to know when funds will hit my account.

Congrats on getting approved! Usually takes 2-3 business days after approval for your first payment to process. Make sure you've filed all your weekly claims for the weeks you were waiting - those should all get paid as back pay once the system catches up.

•Thanks! I did file my weekly claims the whole time even though it was pending. Good to know it should be soon.

•Same situation here, got approved last Thursday and money showed up Tuesday morning via direct deposit

The payment processing time can vary depending on your payment method. Direct deposit is fastest - usually 2-3 business days. The debit card option through KeyBank can take up to 5-7 business days for the first payment since they have to mail you the card first.

•I chose direct deposit so hopefully that speeds things up. Did you have to do anything special after approval or does it just automatically process?

•Should be automatic as long as your banking info is correct in your profile. Check your payment history section - it should show pending payments there first.

•Make sure your bank account info is right because if the deposit bounces it adds another week to get sorted out

ugh the waiting is the worst part! I've been calling Washington ESD every day trying to get someone to tell me when my payment will actually show up but I can never get through to a human. Just that stupid automated system that hangs up on you after 30 minutes on hold.

•I had the same problem with calling Washington ESD. Tried for weeks and never got through. Then someone on here told me about this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that basically calls for you and gets you connected to an actual person. I was skeptical but tried it and got through to someone in like 20 minutes. They have a video demo too: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ. Might be worth checking out if you need to talk to someone about your payment timing.

•The phone system is absolutely broken. I've wasted probably 40 hours trying to get through in the past month.

Check your payment history in your online account every morning. Mine showed up there as 'processing' about a day before the money actually hit my bank account. That at least gave me peace of mind that it was coming.

•Good tip, I'll start checking that daily. Right now it just shows my weekly benefit amount but no payment dates.

•Yes the payment history section updates before you actually get the money. Very helpful for tracking.

Just be patient, I know its hard when you need the money. The system is slow but once you're approved the payments do come. I got my first payment 4 days after approval and then all the back pay from the weeks I was waiting came in chunks over the next week.

•That's reassuring to hear. I have about 6 weeks of back pay coming so hopefully it all processes smoothly.

•Yeah the back pay comes in weird chunks sometimes but it all adds up to what you're owed. Keep filing your weekly claims on time going forward.

•Same experience here - back pay came in 2-3 separate deposits but the total was correct

Washington ESD is required to pay within 2 business days of processing your claim according to state law, but there's always processing delays on their end. If it's been more than a week after approval definitely call them.

•Good to know there's actually a legal timeframe. I'll give it the full week before I start panicking.

•Ha good luck calling them. Easier said than done with their phone system

I'm in the same boat - approved Monday and still waiting. This whole process has been such a nightmare. At least we're finally approved though!

•Yes exactly! After all that waiting in adjudication I'm just happy to see 'approved' status. The payment will come.

•Right? I was starting to think they were never going to approve anyone. 7 weeks of adjudication for me.

•The adjudication delays are insane right now. They're so backed up from all the claims.

Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even if the first payment hasn't come yet. I made the mistake of thinking I should wait and it created issues with my ongoing eligibility.

•Thanks for the reminder! I've been filing them the whole time but wasn't sure if I should keep doing it after approval.

•Yes definitely keep filing. Those weekly claims are how you maintain your eligibility for ongoing benefits.

Pro tip - if you have Bank of America they sometimes hold unemployment deposits for an extra day or two for 'security review' which is annoying. Just FYI if your deposit seems delayed.

•I have Chase so hopefully they don't do that. Good to know though in case it gets held up.

•Wells Fargo does the same thing sometimes. So frustrating when you need the money right away.

The whole system is a joke tbh. Takes forever to get approved then takes forever to get paid. But at least once you get that first payment the weekly ones come pretty regularly.

•Yeah I'm hoping once I get through this initial hurdle the weekly payments will be more predictable.

•They are more predictable once you get past the first one. Usually comes the same day each week after that.

If you're really desperate and need to talk to someone at Washington ESD, I had success using Claimyr to get through to an agent. You can check out their demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ to see how it works. Saved me hours of calling and actually got me connected to someone who could tell me exactly when my payment would process.

•A couple people have mentioned that service now. Might be worth trying if I don't see anything by Friday.

•I used Claimyr too and it actually worked. Was skeptical at first but got through to Washington ESD in under 30 minutes.

just want to say this thread has been super helpful. I'm in the exact same situation - approved yesterday and anxiously waiting for that first payment to hit. Nice to know I'm not alone in this!

•Right? It's nice to know other people are going through the same thing. Makes the waiting a little easier.

Hang in there! I was approved about 3 weeks ago and can share my timeline. Got approved on a Wednesday, payment showed up in my account the following Monday (so about 4 business days). The back pay took a bit longer - came in two separate deposits over the next week, but it all added up correctly. Keep checking your payment history section daily, that's where you'll see it change to "processing" first before it actually hits your bank. And definitely keep filing those weekly claims! The waiting is brutal but you're almost there.

•Thanks for sharing your timeline! That's really helpful to know it was 4 business days for you. I'm on day 2 since approval so hopefully I'll see something by early next week. Good to hear the back pay eventually comes through correctly even if it's in chunks. I've been obsessively checking my payment history section multiple times a day already lol. The waiting really is the hardest part after going through all that adjudication stress.

I went through this exact same situation about a month ago! Got approved after 5 weeks of adjudication and then had to wait another few days for the actual payment. In my case, I was approved on a Tuesday and the money hit my account that Friday (3 business days). The key thing is to make sure all your banking info is correct in your profile - any issues there will delay it even more. Also, don't panic if the back pay comes in weird amounts or on different days, that's totally normal. The system processes everything in batches. You're so close to the finish line after all that waiting!

•Thanks for sharing your experience! It's so reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same thing. 3 business days sounds reasonable - I'm hoping mine will be similar. I double-checked my banking info yesterday just to make sure everything was correct. The back pay thing is good to know too, I was wondering if I should expect it all at once or in chunks. After waiting 6 weeks in adjudication, a few more days feels manageable now that I can actually see light at the end of the tunnel!
