When does your unemployment money get deposited from Washington ESD?

I just got approved for unemployment benefits through Washington ESD and I'm wondering when the actual money shows up in my bank account. I filed my first weekly claim on Sunday and it shows as processed, but I haven't seen any deposit yet. Does anyone know the typical timeline for when Washington ESD deposits hit your account? I'm using direct deposit if that makes a difference.

Usually takes 2-3 business days after your weekly claim is processed. Since you filed Sunday, you should see it by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest.

Thanks! That's a relief. I was starting to worry something went wrong with my claim.

Yeah the waiting is stressful when you're counting on that money for bills

I've been on UI for 6 months now. With direct deposit, it's pretty consistent - Washington ESD processes claims Monday through Wednesday, then deposits hit accounts 2-3 business days later. If you filed Sunday and it shows processed, you're golden.

Good to know it's consistent. Do they deposit at a specific time of day or just sometime during business hours?

Mine usually shows up early morning, like 6-7 AM. Banks process overnight so it's there when you wake up.

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check on your payment status, I recently discovered Claimyr - it's a service that helps you actually reach an agent by phone. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Way better than sitting on hold for hours.

Interesting, I'll check that out. The hold times are ridiculous when you need to talk to someone.

How much does something like that cost? I've been trying to get through for weeks about an issue with my claim.

It's worth checking out their site at claimyr.com - they focus on getting you connected rather than making you wait forever on hold.

MAKE SURE you filed your weekly claim correctly! I made a mistake on one of mine and it delayed my payment by a whole week. Washington ESD doesn't mess around with errors.

0 coins

What kind of mistake did you make? Now I'm worried I screwed something up.

I put the wrong dates for when I looked for work. Had to call and get it corrected. Double check everything before you submit!

Also just FYI - if it's your very first payment, sometimes there's an extra day or two delay while they verify everything is set up correctly with your bank info.

This is my first payment so that might explain why I'm being extra anxious about it.

First payments are always nerve-wracking. You'll get into a routine once you see how consistent it is.

I hate how they don't give you any notification when the money is deposited. You just have to keep checking your bank account like some kind of stalker lol

0 coins

lol same! I check my banking app like 10 times a day when I'm waiting for my UI payment

0 coins

Glad I'm not the only one obsessively checking my account balance

Pro tip: if you log into your Washington ESD account, you can see your payment history and status. It'll show when they sent the payment to your bank, which helps you know exactly when to expect it.

0 coins

Oh that's helpful! I didn't know you could track it like that. I'll check my account now.

The online account is actually pretty useful once you figure out how to navigate it

What if it doesn't show up? I've been waiting 5 days now and still nothing. My claim says processed but no deposit.

0 coins

5 days is definitely too long. You should call Washington ESD or use that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier to get through to an agent.

Yeah that Claimyr thing at claimyr.com would be perfect for this kind of situation where you need to talk to someone about a missing payment.

I might have to try that. The regular phone number just hangs up on me after being on hold.

Sometimes banks have delays too, especially smaller credit unions. I bank with a tiny local credit union and my UI payments are always a day later than my friend who uses Chase.

I use a big bank so hopefully that won't be an issue for me.

You should be fine then. The big banks usually process faster.

Been on unemployment for 8 months now unfortunately. The deposit schedule is pretty reliable - Sunday claims usually deposit Wednesday/Thursday. Friday claims deposit the following Tuesday/Wednesday.

0 coins

That's good to know about the different days. I'll stick to filing on Sundays for faster processing.

Same, I always file Sunday morning right when I wake up to get it processed faster

just wanted to say that first payment anxiety is totally normal! once you get the routine down it becomes much less stressful

0 coins

Thanks for the reassurance! It really helps to know other people have been through this.

I actually had to contact Washington ESD about a payment delay last month and used Claimyr to get through. Saved me hours of waiting on hold and I got my issue resolved the same day. Really wish I'd known about it sooner.

How does that work exactly? Do they just call for you?

0 coins

They help you get connected to an actual agent instead of getting stuck in the phone tree. Check out their demo video to see how it works.

Make sure your direct deposit info is correct in your Washington ESD account! I had an old account number and it took forever to figure out why my payments weren't showing up.

0 coins

Good point, I should double-check that. How do you update it if it's wrong?

Ethan Clark

You can update it online in your account settings, but it takes a few days to take effect.

The waiting game is the worst part of being on unemployment. At least once you know the pattern it gets easier to plan your budget around it.

0 coins

Yeah I'm definitely going to feel better once I see that first deposit hit my account.

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know my payment showed up this morning! Exactly 3 business days like you all said. Thanks for all the helpful info!

Awesome! Glad it worked out exactly as expected.

Perfect timing! Now you know what to expect going forward.

0 coins

Yay! That first payment hitting your account is such a good feeling
