When does unemployment deposit from Washington ESD - what day of week?
I just got approved for unemployment benefits and filed my first weekly claim on Sunday. When should I expect the money to hit my account? I know Washington ESD processes payments but I can't find clear info on what day they actually deposit. Some people say Tuesday, others say Wednesday or Thursday. My bills are due this week so I really need to know when the deposit comes through. Does it depend on your bank or is it the same for everyone?

Usually deposits hit on Tuesday or Wednesday for most people if you filed by Sunday. But it can vary by bank - some credit unions get it Tuesday morning, bigger banks sometimes Wednesday.

Washington ESD processes payments Monday night/Tuesday morning. Most direct deposits show up Tuesday or Wednesday depending on your bank's processing schedule. If you have a debit card from Washington ESD, those usually get loaded Tuesday evening.

•I chose direct deposit, so Tuesday/Wednesday sounds right. Do you know if holidays affect this?

Rudy Cenizo
•Yes, if Monday is a holiday then everything shifts by a day. Processing happens Tuesday night instead.

I've been calling Washington ESD for weeks trying to get someone to explain my payment schedule but can never get through. The hold times are insane and then they just hang up on you after 2 hours.

•I had the same problem until I found Claimyr.com - they call Washington ESD for you and actually get through to agents. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Saved me so much time and frustration.

•Really? That sounds too good to be true. How does it work exactly?

•You just tell them what you need to ask Washington ESD about and they handle the calling. They deal with all the hold times and transfers, then call you back with the agent on the line. Way better than spending all day redialing.

Mine always comes Wednesday around 2am with Chase bank. But one time it was delayed until Thursday because of some processing issue on Washington ESD's end.

•Did they tell you about the delay or did you just have to figure it out?

•Had to figure it out myself. No notification or anything, just didn't show up when expected.

Just remember you have to keep filing your weekly claims every week even after you start getting payments. I forgot one week and it messed up my whole payment schedule.

•Good point, I have it marked in my calendar for every Sunday.

•Yeah the weekly claims are due by midnight Sunday for the previous week. Miss one and you have to explain why to get paid.

Been waiting 3 weeks for my first payment and still nothing. My claim says approved but no deposit. Called Washington ESD 50+ times, can't get through to anyone.

•Check your payment history in your Washington ESD account. Sometimes there's a hold or additional verification needed that's not obvious.

•I had this same issue and used Claimyr to get through to Washington ESD. Turned out there was an identity verification hold I didn't know about. The agent cleared it up in 10 minutes.

•How much does Claimyr cost? I'm desperate at this point.

•Way less than the time and stress I was wasting trying to call myself. Check out their site at claimyr.com - they explain everything there.

Don't count on the money being there Monday. Washington ESD doesn't process over the weekend, so earliest is Tuesday for most banks.

•Good to know, I won't check until Tuesday then.

If you have the Washington ESD debit card option, those usually get loaded faster than direct deposit. Tuesday evening usually.

•I already chose direct deposit, can I switch to the debit card?

•You can change it in your account settings but it might delay your next payment while they process the change.

mine comes Wednesday with Key Bank every single week, very consistent

•That's good to know it's consistent once you figure out your bank's timing.

I work part time and still get partial unemployment. My deposits vary between Tuesday and Wednesday depending on if I reported any work hours that week. More complicated when you're working part time.

Caden Turner
•Oh that's interesting, I didn't know part time work could affect the deposit timing.

Rudy Cenizo
•It's because Washington ESD has to calculate your partial benefit amount when you report earnings. Takes a little extra processing time.

Set up text alerts through your bank app so you know as soon as it hits. Way better than checking constantly.

The Washington ESD website has a payment calendar but it's buried in the resources section. Shows all the processing dates for the year.

•Good point, though they don't always update it when there are delays or system issues.

Remember your first payment might be delayed compared to regular weekly payments. Mine took an extra day or two while they set everything up.

If your deposit doesn't come when expected, don't immediately assume something's wrong. Sometimes banks have their own delays too.

Looks like Tuesday/Wednesday is the standard for most people. Thanks for asking this question, I was wondering the same thing!

For what it's worth, I've been getting unemployment through Washington ESD for about 6 months now and I have US Bank - my deposits consistently come on Wednesday mornings around 4am. It was nerve-wracking the first few weeks not knowing when to expect it, but once you get into the rhythm it becomes pretty predictable. The key thing is making sure you file your weekly claim by Sunday night like others mentioned. I set a phone reminder for Sunday at 6pm so I never forget.

•That's really helpful Miguel! US Bank on Wednesday sounds consistent with what others are saying about the bigger banks. I like the Sunday reminder idea - I'm definitely going to set that up too since I'm still new to this whole process. It's reassuring to hear from someone who's been doing this for months that it becomes predictable once you get the hang of it.
