When does Washington ESD unemployment pay direct deposit - timing questions
I just got approved for unemployment benefits and set up direct deposit through my Washington ESD account. This is my first time filing weekly claims and I'm confused about the payment timing. I submitted my weekly claim on Sunday but haven't seen any deposit yet. Does anyone know when Washington ESD actually sends out the direct deposit payments? Is there a specific day of the week they process them?

Washington ESD typically processes direct deposits on Tuesday nights, so you should see the money in your account by Wednesday morning. Sometimes it takes until Thursday depending on your bank.

•Thanks! So if I file my weekly claim on Sunday, I should expect payment by Wednesday or Thursday?

Carmen Reyes
•Exactly. As long as your claim gets approved and there are no issues flagged.

I've been getting UI for 3 months now and it's always Wednesday for me. Chase bank.

•Same here with Wells Fargo, always Wednesday morning around 6am

•Good to know it's consistent! I have Bank of America so hopefully similar timing.

Just a heads up - if Washington ESD flags your claim for any reason (like if you forgot to log job searches or reported earnings incorrectly), the payment will be delayed until they review it. Make sure you're following all the job search requirements.

•I did log my 3 job search activities like required. How would I know if something got flagged?

•Check your account on the Washington ESD website. If there's an issue, you'll see a message or it will show under 'Issues' in your claim summary.

Been trying to reach Washington ESD for weeks about my delayed payments. Their phone system is impossible - I either get hung up on or wait for hours. Finally found Claimyr.com which got me through to an actual agent in like 10 minutes. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Totally worth it when you need to actually talk to someone about payment issues.

•Never heard of that service but honestly anything is better than trying to call Washington ESD directly

•Good to know there's an option! Hopefully I won't need it but will keep that in mind.

•How much does that cost? Seems too good to be true

•Way cheaper than missing payments because you can't get through to fix issues. They focus on getting you connected, not charging crazy fees.

MAKE SURE you file before the Sunday deadline! I missed it once by like 30 minutes and had to wait a whole extra week for payment.

•Good reminder! What time on Sunday is the cutoff?

•I think it's 11:59 PM on Sunday but don't risk it. I always file by Saturday night now.

Anyone else notice the payments seem smaller lately? I swear they used to be more

•They take out taxes if you elected to have them withheld. Also check if you have any overpayment deductions.

•Oh that might be it, I did elect tax withholding. Forgot about that

Tuesday night processing, Wednesday deposit is the standard. Been unemployed 3 times in my career and it's always been consistent.

•That's reassuring to hear it's reliable. Thanks for confirming!

•Same experience here. Washington ESD is actually pretty good with direct deposit timing, it's the phone support that sucks

What if your claim is in adjudication? Do you still get payments?
0 coins
Jamal Thompson
•No, payments are held during adjudication until they make a determination on your claim.

•Ugh mine's been in adjudication for 2 weeks now. This is killing me financially

•That's exactly when I used Claimyr - they helped me get through to find out what was holding up my adjudication. Turned out to be a simple documentation issue.

Does the timing change for holidays?
0 coins
Carmen Reyes
•Yes, if Tuesday is a federal holiday, processing usually gets pushed to Wednesday night with deposits hitting Thursday.

•Good to know, thanks! Memorial Day is coming up so that's helpful.

I switched from paper checks to direct deposit last month and the timing is so much better. Checks took like a week to arrive in the mail.

•Yeah I'm glad I set up direct deposit from the start. Seems way more reliable.

•How do you switch to direct deposit if you're already getting checks?

•Log into your Washington ESD account and there's a payment method section where you can add your bank info.

Been getting payments for 6 months now. Tuesday night processing, Wednesday morning deposit like clockwork. Only exception was when I had to verify my identity and that delayed everything by a week.

•What triggered the identity verification? Want to make sure I avoid that issue.

•Not sure exactly, but I think it was because I moved and updated my address. Just had to upload my driver's license.

Pro tip: set up account alerts with your bank so you get notified when the deposit hits. Makes it easier to track.

The Washington ESD website also shows your payment history so you can track when payments were issued vs when they hit your account.

•I'll check that out. Good to have a record of everything.

•Yeah it's under 'Payment Information' in your account. Shows amount, date issued, and payment method.

Anyone else's bank charge fees for unemployment deposits? Mine started charging $3 per deposit which is annoying.

Keisha Robinson
•That's weird, most banks don't charge for direct deposits. Might want to switch banks.

Yara Haddad
•Yeah I'm considering it. It's a small credit union but those fees add up.

•Check if they have a different account type without fees. Sometimes basic checking has fees but other accounts don't.

Do standby claims get paid on the same schedule?
0 coins
Jamal Thompson
•Yes, standby claims follow the same payment schedule if approved. Tuesday processing, Wednesday deposit.

•Thanks! I'm on standby from my union job so wasn't sure if it was different.

Been waiting 4 days past the usual Wednesday deposit and still nothing. My claim shows as paid but no money in my account. Anyone had this happen?

Jamal Thompson
•Contact your bank first to make sure there's no hold on the deposit. If that's not it, you'll need to call Washington ESD.

•This is exactly when Claimyr saved me. Bank said no issues on their end, but Washington ESD had sent the payment to my old account somehow. Claimyr got me through to fix it same day.

•I'll try my bank first but might need to use that service if I can't get through to Washington ESD directly.

The consistency is nice compared to when I was working gig jobs and never knew when payments would come.

What happens if you file your weekly claim late? Does it still process on the same schedule?
0 coins
Jamal Thompson
•If you file after the Sunday deadline, it usually gets processed the following week. So you'd get paid the next Wednesday instead.

Natasha Kuznetsova
•Good to know. I almost missed last week's deadline so I was worried about the timing.

My first payment took an extra day because it was a new account setup. After that it's been regular Wednesday timing.

•That makes sense. I'll keep that in mind for my first payment.

•Same thing happened to me. First payment was Thursday, then every Wednesday after that.

Bottom line for OP: File by Sunday night, expect payment Wednesday morning, check your Washington ESD account if there are any delays. The system is pretty reliable once you know the schedule.

One thing I learned the hard way - make sure your bank account info is exactly right when you set up direct deposit. I had one digit wrong in my routing number and it took 3 weeks to get it sorted out because the payment kept bouncing back to Washington ESD. Double and triple check those numbers! Also keep your bank statements handy in case they need verification.
